During a short stay in Madrid, we came in here for an early lunch. Overall the food was solid although there weren't any real standout dishes. Picked this place because I liked the idea of a Japanese twist on tapas, which I think is exactly what this was. They had a great selection of unique Japanese cervezas and many intriguing items on the menu so I was satisfied in that respect. My favorite thing here was probably the Yakisoba in "pad thai" sauce (which was more like a very sour, bitter generic Asian sauce). Although the ramen noodles they served with were uncooked, the warmth and spiciness of this dish hit the spot. We also got the tuna katsu which was pretty bland, the wagyu skewer which tasted too vinegary, and the chicken skewer which was covered in a sour guacamole/pico de gallo-like spread. The chicken skewer was pretty good. For dessert we didn't papaya tart with yuzu sorbet, which was delicious. The service was attentive and very helpful in guiding us through the menu in English. The waiter did not seem to acknowledge my spouse throughout the course of the meal though, which seemed strange (e.g. didn't offer to refill her water glass). Overall I thought the food was good quality and it's a solid place to grab a bite, but nothing was really memorable and I think there are better options in the area. read more

If you've had real asian food before please don't come here. A weird mix of asian fusion tapas... it would be best to stick to traditional Spanish Tapas. Too expensive for a strange array of food. I came here with my partner on a Tuesday night, and the restaurant was extremely quiet so we were able to get a table right away. The overall service was slightly slow, and the food was just okay. One dish that stood out to me was the ramen...It stood out to me because it was not what I expected in a ramen. They used really thin rice noodles, the broth tasted like home made Chinese soup, and the meat choice was odd. The other tapas we ordered were mediocre. The skewers were tiny and overpriced. The crispy pork bao didn't actually have crispy pork in it. We even confirmed this with the waitress to make sure it was the right order. Overall, I think there are opportunities to create a fusion menu that's more tasteful. Stick to more traditional Spanish restaurants if you're looking for tapas. read more

Great Izakaya! The spot is cool, the decor is really nice and the staff is friendly. On the food side, the eggplant and duck confit were amazing! It's essentially Japanese / Cantonese Tapas. I'd highly recommend the ox tail dumplings, the fried chicken skewer, and the Crab Nem. Very good food and very good service! If you don't feel like Spanish food this place is great. Seating is spacious and the restaurant is clean! read more

In Madrid and really have not found the perfect gem. Good place. Good tapas. Bad service. Maybe because I'm American the service wasn't what I expected. I highly recommend sharing as each skewer is only about two to three pieces on average, similar to a tapas style. Where do I start. I guess if you've never been to Japan and have no clue as to what yakitori is this would pass as a average mall food court yet they have a real attitude about the quality of the food. "When in Rome..." no wait....when in Madrid, do as the local Spaniards here, and come eat at Yokitoro! The food here is soooo delicious. It's tapas style. So they recommend four to five plates/tapas per couple, along with a side. I personally recommend the duck and the wagyu, just to name two. Oh yeah, the eggplant is delicious as well. Ooooo oooooo the fried chicken too. I told you...it's ALL delicious. All the servers are dressed as pilots. Not sure why, but it adds to the ambience and charm of this place. Nice lunch here. They have tapas that are one or two pieces from the grill and a variety of other items. Always good to reserve in Madrid but we snuck in just before the rush. We selected from the fish, chicken and pork sections. You sit down and there are beers chilling in buckets of ice set into the table. You can stash your backpack or purse in a stool next to the table with a lid. It's a cool atmosphere, trendy and the waitstaff wears green jumpsuits while music plays and you can write on the walls. The atmosphere seems nice when you step in here. We got prompt service and was seated by the window. The problem with our seats was that it was very loud as the servers would stock plates next to us. I got no complaints about the service but the food was very mediocre. The salmon dish was decent, ribs were good but our chicken wings and potatoes were burnt. The cutting board that the plates were served on were a bit dirty (food left from previous guests). This was a welcomed gem after eating tons of traditional meals in Madrid AND Marrakech but this place isn't just good because it was out of the norm--it was straight up delicious! Walked in with no reservation & waited about 20 mins for a table, which was totally acceptable. The bartender made me a yummy mojito and every single thing we ordered from the menu was outstanding....except for the shiitake mushrooms which I didn't much love. Do NOT miss out on the white rice with oriental seasoning, the super fresh tuna tataki with that ridiculously tasty white almond gazpacho, or the bone marrow. I loved this place so much I went back again during my stay in Madrid. We walked out full and the bill for 2 people was still under $60USD. If you're looking for a change, don't miss this place. Maybe my taste buds aren't accustomed to Spanish style cuisine yet. We got the tempura patatas and they tasted like long john silvers fish batter drenched in oil. We got the cabbage with bacon and apple. It tasted like warm mushy canned vegetables. We got rice with oriental seasoning and it was extremely salty. We got some tuna skewers which my boyfriend liked. We also had a lobster yakibokata which was good. And for dessert we got the marshmallow for 3€. I'm still laughing that it was literally a marshmallow with some colored sugar on top. Basically a peep. And to top it off the servers were almost completely non existent. For 35€ was disappointed. I'm a pretty laid back, big picture type of person. When you have a reservation at 11:30 pm you realize it's late. When you are faced with rude, unwelcoming service you think, "maybe it's been a long day for them". But no. Nope. It's a restaurant. Service industry. Smile. Serve. Be kind. We are paying customers. We were asked to wait by the bar for our table. My friend noticed the bartender preparing a drink I suspected was a tinto de verano, but my friend didn't know that so when he was asked what he wanted to drink he pointed to the drinks and said, "We will have 2 of the same." The bartender, with a look of contempt said, "you don't even know what it's called. Humph! It's tinto de verano." he went ahead and prepared it while he laughed. Just a jerk. My friend took it well, but I found it to be quite obnoxious. Then we got seated. Our waitress was also in a mood. Again, we justified the behaviors by saying it was 11:40pm, Saturday night, Pride Day, lots of people. The waiters were probably fed up ... But no. Just don't be a jerk. Don't be an ass. Serve like you love your job even if you hate it. She was snippy with her fellow waiters and was annoyed because we couldn't decide what we wanted, so she walked away. When she came back she said kitchen closed at 12 so we had to order everything we wanted at that moment. We ordered a few items. I was not comfortable. Wanted to leave. The thing is ... The food is good. But the service sucks!! I won't be back. This was my 2nd time there. On a good note .... They forgot to charge the tintos. That was a plus for us! read more

While I understand I was not in downtown Tokyo, I couldn't seem to find the link between real yakitori and whatever was served in this restaurant. Service was as equally disappointing. Never received water or bread (even though other tables received them immediately). The server repeatedly took my paper menu away even though I told him that I planned to stagger my food order.
