Such a cute spot in a cute market! I enjoyed the sushi for a fair price. Good service and good food

OMG - I was not expecting such delicious sushi in Spain but this place is 100% legit! The sushi menu is simple and everything is fresh. The ramen was simple & broth was delicious. The rolls were interesting (esp the jamon wrapped one - not do good) Advice: place is hard to find as it is a kiosk in a fish market.

The ambiance of this place feels like Japan and just amazing. The servers only know Spanish but are really nice. You should make a reservation here to GE the full feeling but walk-ins are okay. The food is really good like amazing I think this is the best place if you want some Japanese food.

Fuck yes! This little sushi bar may be located in a somewhat odd place, literally the butcher is next door but don't let that throw you off if you are looking for some fine quality sushi. That stuff tasted so fresh and was presented wonderfully, personally I don't care too much for ambiance but if you do, then I wouldn't go here... having said that, sushi is on point here amigos - keep up the good work! Yokaloka is one to remember!

It took me one hour to convince my hubby to come here. Prior to that, it took me another one hour to Yelp/TripAdvisor all the Asian joints within walking distance of our Airbnb in Madrid, Spain. Madrid was the last leg of our three week trip in Europe. I was tired of tapas and paella, pizza and pasta, croissants and croque madams, and everything European and just wanted some acceptable Asian comfort food that wouldn't give us a stomachache. After zooming in on every picture of this place online, I thought that this place couldn't be that bad. I can at least order a plate of potstickers and go with all cooked food, right? When we sat down, I couldn't help ordering one little piece of tuna nigiri with our potstickers and ramen to satisfy my sashimi-tooth. The potstickers and ramen were just average. However, after devouring that one little piece, I was completely sold. I even joked to my husband that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and our favorite sushi joint in the Bay Area. The next day, we came back and ordered all sushi- one nigiri set and two maki. We did have to ask the male waiter (who, by the way, had excellent English and was more than patient to explain everything to us on the menu) to leave out the cream cheese and mayo in our sushi though. Very good and given that this is MADRID, this place totally blew me away.

One afternoon, boyfriend and I were strolling and browsing through Mercado Antón Martin when we stumbled across YokaLoka. We are obsessed with sushi, but we were in Madrid. And in Madrid, you eat like the Spanish, not the Japanese. After a few minutes of convincing (Boyfriend: We'll just have a few pieces, it's kind of like tapas, right?), I caved in. After all, it was the first sushi restaurant we had seen so far, and how good can sushi be in Madrid? Boy, was I wrong. The sake was amazing - it was extremely high quality, and the best part, you could easily taste that it was fresh! I guess that's the great thing about being located in a fish market in the Iberian peninsula, fresh seafood all the time. Since we ordered the sake (I'm all about the salmon), we had to order the anago too (Boyfriend's all about the eel). I'm not a huge anago connoisseur, but according to the boyfriend, it was great. If you can get his picky approval on eel, then you've really done something right. Unfortunately, there were slight downsides to everything else but the fish - the rice was not properly cooled, the pieces wobbly shaped, and the nori ripped like a 5 year-old. But the Japanese YokaLoka ladies were so kind - they tried to speak English with us, served us complimentary drinks, and even green tea chocolates! It's hard to come by such hospitality at dining establishments, especially in Madrid. If you're a tourist in Madrid, you probably shouldn't eat a full meal here. After all, you're in Spain! But if you're a local, and you just can't resist some good sushi, YokaLoka is a stop you need to make.

The teacher in my Spanish class in Madrid gave me the advice to come to this food stand if I want authentic Japanese sushi In Madrid. The sushi was really fresh and so far the best I had in Madrid . The staff was really friendly and invited us for a sake after dinner. Normally I'm sceptic about food stands but stands like this show me how wrong I can be.

This is a little hard to find because as it is in the lower level of a nondescript market, however; they have a variety of tasty sushi dishes and a pretty nice ramen as well. The fish was fresh and the prices were quite reasonable. Mind you, sushi wasn't on my mind visiting Spain but I had zero reservations about my decision to dine here once I did. The feel is very authentic in relation to the tiny sushi boxes that you might find in Japan. I would certainly recommend a visit to any of you looking for a pleasant experience. I would rate this place a solid 3.5 if Yelp allowed partial ratings.

This's our second time here during the trip in Madrid, food is beyond expectation, totally mind-blowing if you're a sushi lover! compared with other expensive fancy restaurants, the price here is sweet, with the same standard of taste. cooks are all Japanese so I'd assume it's authentic. Definitely a place to visit!

Absolutely amazing food. It is a little bit difficult to find because the restaurant is actually inside a market and there might not be enough places to sit however these hurdles don't seem to matter considering the quality of the food here. It's hard for me to think of any other Japanese restaurant that can offer the same level of deliciousness at the same price :)

Difficult, difficult, difficult to give this place a star-rating. Please consider this a 3,5!…read more Short version: Was I fan? About certain things, YES! Will I tell all my friends, colleagues, family members "go there!"? No. The one thing that stood out and I would say: GO EAT IT, is the gunkan Squid&Truffle. I have never had any sushi so delightful and sooooo yummy ever in my life!! My story: Thursday afternoon and hungrrrrry, craving for sushi. Consulted my Yelp app, as I do, and found this place nearby. Hashtag win! I came in around 2-ish and it was totally empty, I was the first customers. Which makes sense, as the Spaniard goes to lunch way later. When I left, the place was almost full. So, if you want to go here with a group - totally possible when you go a bit earlier! The menu is interesting; really cool flavour combinations! And again, that gunkan Squid&Truffle is SO good and you have to eat it! If not, I'll fly to Madrid and tell you off in person. I had the gunkan Fatty Tuna (which was ok, no wow-factor), the gunkan Sea Urchin (booooooring), and the Hotate Maki (good). I was expecting more from the Hotate Maki; scallops can be so soft, that they just melt in your mouth and that wasn't really the case here. To be fair, I expected the Squid&Truffle nót to be so soft and it was. Ooooooh this gunkan will stay with me forever and will give me gastronomic dreams for the rest of my life!! The service was good, not super surprising as I was the only one in the restaurant and already had all my food before it became busy. The one thing that really makes me give this place no full stars is: 1. My overall sushi-eating-experience; the nori was nice & crispy + the rice was dry (meh) + some toppings were uh-mazing (had I mentioned the Squid&Truffle? DO IT!) but overall I found the toppings medium impressive. 2. The overall price; €50 for sushi & 2 drinks is excessive when it comes to the overall yumminess (or lack thereof), except for the Squid&Truffle. Sorry, had to mention it again. Plus: there's already 10% service charge on the bill. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big tipper, I am! I think it's just something 'that you always do' and the amount represents the appreciation for your experience. In general, I give around 5-10% and when I really liked it, I'd give 20%. I just really don't like it when it's already on the bill, I'd like to decide for myself and I think customers should always have that option.

If you've ever tried to find quality sushi in Madrid that matches the cost of other Spanish…read morerestaurants, you're probably still looking. Yes 19 Sushi Bar costs more but having tried many other places, I can say it is worth it. Today I had a beautiful bowl of salmon sashimi on a bed of ice. The sashimi just melted in my mouth. The cost was around 16 euros and yes that is expensive but there was plenty of it, 8 large pieces of 2 bites each, positively delicious. Also very good miso soup, California roll and fantastic service. They do have a menu del dia for 14.95 euros for those that don't want to break the bank. I will be making this my regular Sushi joint! Someone also mentioned a 10% service charge. I just checked my bill and it's IVA Spanish Tax of 10% required by law, so it isn't a service charge/tip as some might think.

VEGAN REVIEW! This…read moreis easily my partner and I's favorite place for vegan Japanese eats in Madrid. They have a separate, fully vegan menu as well as a vegan menu del dia for ~12€ during lunch hours. The restaurant is small but airy and modern, and the terraza is great for people watching on a warm day as it's right across the street from Retiro Park. Our favorites: -- Tofu Teriyaki Don (9,50e) // My partner's all time favorite dish, and one of my tops, as well. Super flavorful and the tofu has such great texture with a nice glaze. The vegetables are nicely charred and the fluffy rice forms the perfect base. -- California Maki Vegano 8pzas (9,50e) // This version of a California roll is one of my favorites! Super fresh and has good texture and flavor. -- Batata Tempura Maki 8pzas (11,50e) // I personally love a tempura roll, so this was a must-get for me. It's really good but a little pricey. -- Agedashi Tofu (5,95e) // Super delicious version of this classic Japanese appetizer that almost always has fish in it! Such a treat, highly recommend. You really can't go wrong with anything on the vegan menu at Yoshi. Everything is authentic, fresh and flavorful. The price is a bit higher than other restaurants, but for the quality of the food and service, as well as the neighborhood, I find it to be very much worth it. I've never disliked a dish here, which is why I outlined our favorites above. Service has always been friendly and helpful. They offer soda, wine, beer, tea and sake, too. We'll continue to frequent this fantastic Japanese spot for satisfying vegan eats!
