After 3 weeks in Spain and Portugal, I was sick of tapas and this fit the bill . Just one block off of the Gran Via, very unassuming, but good. Got there early-7:45 and I was the only diner. Good place for authentic Chinese food in Madrid! Food is cheap and portions are large. The dishes we tried were pretty good but nothing stood out as particularly great. For four people we had the following: - hot and sour soup - even the individual portion is enough for a few people to share, or else you'll get full from that alone. Lots of flavour and packed with tofu. Probably the best thing we tried and for around ~3 euros, you can't go wrong! - fried eggplant? - I forget exactly what this dish was called but it was pretty delicious! Friends ordered this dish because it reminded them of homecooked Chinese food and everyone was a fan. Almost melts in your mouth and goes really well with plain rice. - sweet and sour pork - the least authentic dish we had but it was pretty good! Similar to what you would find at a fast food Chinese place in North America so it was familiar. - deep fried green beans with pork - there wasn't much ground pork in this dish but the beans were pretty well-seasoned. Overall an average dish but made for a good side. - sichuan chicken - also one of the chef's specials, but probably our least favourite dish. The chicken was bone-in which we weren't expecting, and we didn't love the taste. it came with a good selection of fried vegetables and was presented nicely in a basket. - note - lots of people ordered sizzling dumplings and other sizzled dishes but we had already ordered too much food. They looked great so definitely go for one of those! The individual portion of steamed rice was hefty as well. Service was lacking but we weren't expecting much in the first place. The entire bill came out to 40 euros (10 per person) so overall a pretty filling meal for a great price, and a nice break from tapas. That being said, it was nothing particularly special and there's definitely better food to be had in Madrid if you're only here for a short while. read more

Finally got my fix of Chinese food!!!! Ni Hao was delicious, quick, and didn't skimp on water. (It's so rare here to get a lot of water and not have to pay for it!) The place was packed and we had to wait about 15 minutes, but that's the sign of a good restaurant- right? We got our food in about 7 minutes and scarfed it down. I highly recommend the sweet corn soup! The prices were cheap as well. read more

Spiciest crab bar none! And only cost me 9 euros!!! After traveling for a month, I was definitely getting sick and needed that meal with a kick. Like many other places in Madrid, this was easy enough to find and difficult enough to miss. The sign is also in Chinese so there's a chance that you can walk right past this unless you have your gps on. The place was buzzing, busy and crowded both times I've came. There was even a huge line for it. Talk about popular. It is right in the center though. Now the menu: Lo behold the menu. Reading it is kind of hard. Spain's dialect isn't that easy to pick up as other languages. We asked for English speaking waiter and they brought us one. She's the youngest one in the place and she was nice! She speak as much English as I speak Spanish :) But helpful nonetheless. Food~ this place must be known for their dumplings and hot pot. I saw everyone getting Both! I also saw very good looking sizzling plates. So I went for it. Chicken in Sichuan sauce ~ I would've liked it a lot more if the meat wasn't deep fried. But it was still good. Spicy pork~ this was almost identical to the chicken dish but a lot better. Hot and sour soup~ more on the sour side than hot but with their hot sauce, it does the trick. After devouring them, I was still craving that spice fix. The extra super spice wasn't that spicy to me. She suggested crab in black bean. I suggested really really really spicy! The waitress laugh and gasped at the same time. That's a good sign right? Ten minutes later, I see her walking down the restaurant with massive platter of crab!! It add ginormous! You can see the deep dark red color sauce glistening out of those babies. And yes, the spiciest thing I've ever had!! So spicy, it will make you cry!! So good, it made me smile! It also had rice cakes in it which I totally loved. All of that and a pot of tea for 30 euros! Which is totally amazing!! My second time; the bill came out the same for two dishes minus all the spicy fun. Fish in spicy sauce is way to sour! And beef noodle soup lacks in flavor. My favourite Chinese restaurant in the Madrid. Good variety of food with menu in spanish. Tried a lot of dishes here. Specially love the Pollo sechuan (very very spicy chicken for me), other food is not that spicy. Good price for good taste in the centre. I have also tried Ku-Ban, A typical dish where they serve rice in a platter and pour hot shrimp curry over it. I go there at least once a month with friends. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They have the menu available in English and offer fork/knife for those of us who aren't talented enough to eat with chopsticks. We ordered the house fried rice which is delicious. It has an assortment of meats inside including shrimp and beef. The chicken in hot sauce is basically kung pao chicken. It's slightly spicy with peanuts. The spare ribs with salt and pepper had great seasoning but not a lot of meat on them. They are also cut into tiny bite sized pieces which I want necessarily a fan of. The sweet and sour pork is exactly as you'd expect it to be. After ordering, the food was served within 10 minutes. Very fast and timely service. The entire menu is very affordable as well. We ordered 4 dishes for only 24€. read more

Wow! I didn't expect to find such a great Chinese restaurant while visiting Madrid, It was so good I actually ended up having dinner there twice! Everything I tried was great, which included Roast Duck (Pato Crujiente), Fried Rice w/ Chinese Vegetables, and Spicy Crab Sichuan Style. Had their Sauted Mushroom and Vegetable, Sichuan Spicy Chicken and a Lamb Noodle Soup. The food was amazing. I would have given it a 5 star review if it were not for the service. Everything went perfect as long as the kids were serving the food, but at the end, when we asked that the left over food be "doggie bagged", we got a strange look. I understand that this may not be standard in Europe, but being polite does not take any money. Also, I get the sense that "out of towners" are quite a few of the customer base. The quantities are very reasonable and the quality of the food excellent. The Sichuan Spicy Chicken is truly spicy and hence for the "feint of heart" , beware.. you could have a tissue permanently plugged into your nose, but other than that the only regret was that I should have had a beer with the food. It would have completed the experience. Ah well a good reason to go back. Additionally, when I went to pay for my check with a credit card, the older staff at the restaurant seemed irritated and started taking the dishes away while we were still wearing our jackets and since the tables are very densely packed, I was literally bumping into the waiter as I was trying to put my arm into my jacket. Also they waved me to the counter to pay my check with a card, and as I walked to the counter, the older parent (patriarch) of the restaurant kept saying something in Spanish which I understood to be "Pay the bill before you leave). My reviews come from the food. I knocked down two stars for the service. I came in a bit before 1pm and was the first customer. Not surprised. I still eat "early" (American time). I ordered my food, simple process. I got it within 15 minutes or so. After diving into the greasy noodles, my mouth was covered in greasy goodness. I reached to my table for a napkin and realized there wasn't one. You also have to ask for napkins... (-1 star) While other customers were filing in, I realized everyone else received the shrimp chips and I never did. I mean, I didn't want to be pesky and ask for it because I was already so full from the food, but still, I'm a paying customer. A few weeks into studying abroad in Copenhagen, I started to crave authentic Chinese food, and I was sorely disappointed with what the city had to offer. Thank goodness, then, that I went to visit my friend studying in Madrid, since Ni Hao seriously hit the spot with its food. We got the beef tendons, sizzling dumplings (potstickers), ma la fish, tofu with crab, and pork shoulder (ti pang, also what the waitress recommended when we asked for her favorite pork dish). It was a gross overestimation of how much food we needed for a party of two, but we doggy bagged and it was fine. The pork shoulder was the highlight of the meal; the meat was extremely tender, and the buns were so, so tasty. The staff didn't seem to know English, but they were very accommodating with my attempts to speak Mandarin coupled with my friend's Spanish. Ni Hao was a great choice - and we perhaps overgorged ourselves on the wonton soup, spring rolls, steamed dumpings, chinese vegetables (bok choy & garlic, primarily), chicken with almonds and my personal favorite - spicy crab! The wait staff was friendly, but it was somewhat difficult ordering in English (our problem, I know). I guess if I'm rating this place by the area it's 4 stars. We had wonton soup, spring rolls, Szechuan chicken and tres delicias lo mein (chicken, beef and shrimp). The soup was delicious, you could tell it was homemade quality and not fast food. The broth was rich in flavor and the wontons were tasty and very delicately made. Only difference is the broth was a bit fishy because they add dry shrimp to it and seaweed of course. The Szechuan chicken was good but a bit too dry for my taste and hubby found a lot of little pieces of bone in there other than that fresh peppers in it. The lo mein seems to taste the same just about anywhere in Madrid so nothing special. The spring rolls were delicious, crunchy, stuffed and bigger than your usual medium sized rolls (no complaints here). All in all I would go back to this place the portions are big. The prices are great and the food like I said seems to be better than any other Asian place we've had in Madrid. But if I would compare it to back in the states, it would receive 3.5 stars. Great place to get a break from the traditional Spanish fare. Huge menu selection (English menu available) and the waiter was able to speak some English. We had spring rolls which were light and delicious, fried noodles with chicken, and sizzling dumplings. Many selections for vegetarians too, we ordered spicy tofu that was very spicy. I got Tofu Picante which I'm not sure I recommend because it's not quite as flavorful as the ones I've had before. However the stir-fried noodles are delicious. This is hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. Don't let the service take away from the food- which, admittedly, is quite delicious. Looking for a taste of home on my trip to Madrid and reading the raving reviews of this place on Yelp! seemed like a good enough reason to dine here. Wrong. Good God was I wrong. They're inefficient with their seating system. There is a huge lack of communication between staff making space available only to the loudest bidder. Terrible. For a seat of one I was waiting close to 35 minutes on a Saturday night at 11PM, while parties of two+ that were shuffling in were being seated left and right. On top of that I was asked to move to a different table once I had settled into my original seat. And then asked to get up from my second table so the lady could move some chairs around. My food has taken forever to arrive, and when it did, it was without a place setting + utensils. Regardless, this was just a rant. Eat here if you can tolerate your typical Chinese food customer service. Or if you're Spanish speaking, in which case, this place would be an absolute gem for you. I live in los angeles and my favorite meal is crustations in beverly hill. they have one on san francisco and beverly hiils. crustations is $75 euros a person. here its $8 euros. it's the best crab I have had in months. it's is better than what you get in california. I made the mistake of doing this once and had to order one of their most expensive dishes, the spicy crab, to make my total over 15€. While I'm no expert on Chinese food I can easily say that Ni Hao is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Madrid if not the best I've been to in terms of authenticity. My wife and I first went there more or less randomly and then decided to go back TWICE within a week because the waitress was awesome, the food was very good (again, no expert on Chinese food, just my taste buds) and ridiculously cheap compared to any of the chain restaurants on Gran Via. We speak only a little bit of Spanish and the waitress only spoke a little English, but they have an English menu and you will be able if order anything easily, they will just jump in with whatever soundbites they know in a dozen different languages until it somehow works out. We made an effort to not order anything twice, so we've tried over a dozen different things and they were awesome. I agree with previous comments that the Spicy Chicken Sechuan Style is great, but I also enjoyed the Spicy Chicken Ma La very much. You should definitely try their dumpling soup or the "sizzling dumplings", which are made fresh by the whole family and taste awesome. 5 stars straight! read more

While Spanish tapas are great, it was nice to have a break from that. We found this fabulous restaurant via yelp and was so pleased with the food. The owner was very attentive and spoke mandarin with me! Coming from New York the Chinese food in china town is great but this place trumped that hands down. This place was so good that i came a second time. The first we got a spicy fried rice, a rice noodle dish, spring rolls and chicken wings. The second we got the wonton soup, spicy fried rice again, sizzling dumplings and egg noodle dishes. I will add that the portions are a good size and I think his food is underpriced and I do hope people tip him bc the prices and service are just too good! Great food at amazing prices. After 3 straight weeks of eating tapa, this was an excellent break!

I'll start with the positives: the food is honest (liberal portions, not skimpy on key ingredients) and reasonably priced. Unfortunately they end there. This is the kind of restaurant that most people would be put off from visiting before they even enter due to the shabby shopfront and lackluster interior. On our visit the table cloths were dirty, and looked like they needed replacing 5 years ago, but this was made up for somewhat by helpful staff and a seemingly clean kitchen (I sneaked a look at the back). 3 of the 4 dishes we had tasted the same, despite being completely different. Perhaps we just chose wrongly. We had triple taste noodles, chicken w/almonds, pork mu-shi and spicy crab. Unfortunately my visit was marred by food poisoning which I am sure I got from the spicy crab dish. This began with painful stomach cramps shortly after eating. Madrid is not famous for Chinese food, and this restaurant does nothing to redeem that status. I can't imagine how it has been so ubiquitously highly reviewed, perhaps it is good Chinese "for Madrid". I shall not be returning, and wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate for a Chinese a don't mind risking your health. read more

Not sure if i should do a 2 or 3 star on this one. The place is super dirty, the tablecloths are just turned over after each customer and im guessing never cleaned. The people working here are weird, I mean we get it that you dont speak english we can figure it out you dont have to get all weird on us. We can point and order that is fine. You dont need to offer us forks 3 times, we know how to use chopsticks! After we ordered I watched the cook come out and sit down with the others as they felt his forehead as if he was sick which wasnt a good thing to watch right as your food is coming out. The dumpling soup was pretty good as was the fried rice and chow mein we ordered but the spicy chicken dish that someone on yelp raved about was disgusting. It was sitting in a bucket with a paper towel under it soaking up all the grease and then as we took a bite of the chicken you realize OH they just hacked up a full chicken and did NOT worry about bones. Hope you like biting down on them and then trying to spit them out. Disgusting. So I mean overall the food was ok if you ordered right and luckily we did not get sick which btw we did worry about for a couple of days and if you are needing other food than tapas you could give it a try i guess? We went here last night and ordered shrimp and corn over rice and Chinese rice noodle seafood soup. This place is not the best for English speaking tourist. I asked 3x for hot sauce and eventually gave up. Also, they were kind of cheap with the shrimp portion. When I ordered shrimp and corn over rice, I expected more than 4 pieces of shrimp. The rest was lots of rice and corn. My soup was okay, would have been better if it had some spice to it. The price is very good so that's why I gave it 3 stars.
