This was my first time going to Gale Street Inn, and my husband and I had a wonderful dinner…read more
SERVICE:
It was very busy for a Monday night, but even as a spur of the moment choice to go (without reservations), we were promptly seated by the friendly owner, Paulo. Though I do advise calling in reservations (and will myself in the future), as they quite quickly filled their main room and with mainly 6 tops or larger. Our waitress, Denise, provided flawless service - she was incredibly attentive, warm, and her suggestions were spot on.
THE SPACE:
The layout here is fantastic. In addition to their standard bar seating, they have a spacious lounge area with unique island high-top tables, which stand out as an elegant and structurally smart use of the space. They also have the main room where we sat, a secondary adjacent event room (Club 45) for gatherings, and a dedicated space for when they host live music. They had excellent jazz music playing over the sound system when we were there, which added a soothing setting to the evening.
FOOD:
We started with calamari and French onion soup. The soup's flavor was absolutely delicious, though I did have to send it back because it was only warm on the inside rather than the hot way I prefer it. Denise handled it beautifully and sent it right back, though surprisingly, it actually returned to me cooler than I had sent it away. I also ordered a side of two Diver Scallops, which were brought out prior to our main courses. While they had a great sear, a perfectly sweet, tender texture, and were delicious, the bottoms were unfortunately quite salty, and they were under the standard size at that price point.
Our main courses were absolutely spectacular. Even during a busy dinner rush, my Walleye Filet came out cooked to perfection! It was served with an amazing Calabrian chili-butter, a delicious potato and caramelized onion puree, sautéed spinach, and crispy fried leeks. My husband ordered the full rack of their famous baby back ribs, and they were as legendary and fall-off-the-bone tender as advertised. He also ordered the side of the Potatoes Au Gratin to accompany his ribs, which were a rich and creamy blend of cheddar and Gruyère cheese.
We finished the night with the Churro Cake à la mode, which was served warm with caramel and vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect ending.
PARKING:
Parking was a breeze since they have a convenient adjacent lot right next door.
Huge thanks to Denise for making us feel so valued even during a busy rush. With so many great choices on the menu, we will definitely be back and look forward to our next visit!
