Our scout troop had a fun time. They escaped the new kid room in just over 30 minutes (we anticipated they would take a full hour but they were given additional clues to help them along). The kid room was geared for about 3-4 players but we had a group 7. They also gave a lot of clues to our scouts because they really do want want groups to break out. LOCATION: This escape room is a good option if you want an indoor, non-touristy activity in St. Augustine. The escape room is located about 15-20 minutes south of historic St. Augustine and about 30-40 minutes south of Jacksonville. The easiest route is to take 95 to the SR206 (Crescent Beach/Hastings exit) otherwise you can get stuck with all the lights on US1. The strip is located behind a Walgreens. They offer great group prices if you're looking to have your kids try out an escape room but don't want to drop too much $$. They also let us sneak a peek at the two other escape rooms. Looks fun! BTW - You can celebrate your escape with ice cream at the Cold Cow just two miles up the road (gotta love when you can rely on Yelp to find an ice cream spot when your troop finishes earlier than expected!) read more

If you have done an escape room, you know how much fun they can be. That being said it is an even better experience if the staff is invested in you having a good experience. We booked a room for Christmas Eve morning and Kevin could not have been more fabulous. He suggested a change to our order given our experience level which was great. We did black beard and had so much fun! Lots of different types of puzzles. Very immersive. We had a great guide who was kind enough to let us finish the last part of the game. We are a team of 2 so it was pretty difficult but I think if you had a couple more then it would be easier (the other pair can work on a diff clue). This was my third escape room - a group of us went as an early birthday celebration and I had a great time! The guy running the place is clearly passionate about what he does and puts a lot of effort into his rooms. He gave us a clear overview of how to approach escape games in general, as we had a few newbies with us, but also gave us the rundown on our specific mission. Their largest room holds ten people, so the eight of us were comfortable in the Speakeasy game as we worked our way through the clues and puzzles. I liked the set-up of their assistance program - a simple tone to catch our attention and a screen on which they could type messages to us. Although we made it out with 16 minutes to spare, we weren't quite fast enough to place on their lobby leaderboard. I guess that means we'll have to go back again for a different room experience to try to break the top three! read more

You do have to reserve your time a little bit ahead of when you want to visit, but the website is easy to navigate. There are three different challenges available currently. Just be sure to bring your thinking caps!! There is a limit to the number of people per challenge at one time, so be sure to read over everything on the website so you can plan accordingly. read more

As an avid escape room goer, I was quite disappointed with this escape room. The rooms were very straight forward, not a lot of decoration or immersive, and a little too easy. Not sure if it had to do with the employee working at the time or what, but we were given clues on every puzzle within a minute of working on a clue. Kinda ruined the whole "figure out what we're doing wrong" aspect. The one clue that looked more exciting in the last room was broken and we won without knowing it, which wasn't a fun experience for the newbies. We went with 6 people where 2 were brand new to escape rooms and we set the record... I don't think that should be possible. read more

I reached out to the business, but was rudely dismissed. My mother in law booked "The Chamber #1" Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. After booking, someone from Xscape called asking if we wanted to switch to a different room because they noticed we had a child in our party and that "The Chamber" is advanced. We declined. After a few minutes into our experience, I started to wonder if the attempted switcheroo was due to full knowledge that this particular room was not up to snuff. To begin with, the Walkie talkie was seemingly defective, which led to our cluemaster frequently entering the room, often to give clues that were not asked for, which completely took us out of what is supposed to be an immersive experience. Several of the puzzles were defective, including one lock that opened without entering a combo, and a locked box that was practically open before opening the lock. The flashlight was low on batteries and when we made this known, the cluemaster disappeared for a few minutes and then returned saying no, it's actually fine and doesn't need batteries (the light was really too dim to easily decipher the clues).All these defects aside, many of the clues really did not make sense.I've done other escape rooms which are well thought out and don't have so many "red herrings".Our dissatisfaction with the experience was expressed as soon as we were done, but the "cluemaster" (who I believe to be one of the owners) did not care. I reached out by email requesting a refund.After being refused and expressing my disappointment that a business would be comfortable offering no make good on such an unsatisfactory product I was met with condescentation,being told we "were warned the room was too advanced for kids" and that "others have solved the room just fine" both of which have nothing to do with the nature of my complaint. As I write this, Xscape appears to have 0 bookings so far today(A Friday).I wish we had taken the extensive availabity on a peak day as a clue that this was not the best show in town. I hope this review helps inform someone's choice and the seek out a better experience elsewhere. read more

My girlfriend and I are big escape room fans, so on our visit to St. Augustine we had to try a couple of escape room businesses. There are only a couple of escape room businesses in this area, so we read some reviews on Escape Crusaders and decided to make Xscape Our Rooms one of our two stops. We've been to a lot of small, locally-owned escape room businesses and a lot that seemed a little disjointed. This one in particular seemed quite different in terms of the overall experience from the moment we walked in the door. We don't usually book ahead unless we know that the business is very busy, so we showed up unexpected and one of the owners had to hurry up to the front to greet us. He was very friendly and welcoming and took us immediately into a room with a big table, a TV and a bunch of seats around the table. He had us sign the waiver before paying for the game, which is obviously no big deal but we were a little confused since we've always done it the opposite way. I realized after this was because they have no real system for taking payments for walk-ins. We just filled out the form on the Bookeo site ourselves on his laptop circa 2006. We were then shown the intro videos, and I was surprised by how professional they were, just because I have been to many businesses that were much more polished in their overall presentation but, being locally-owned, had more "homemade" introductory videos. The clues are distributed through the game master typing on the TV screen that has the countdown on it, something that I have had trouble with in past experiences, but it worked well at this location. The first room we did was the Lucky Duck Speakeasy. I was excited about this room because I have had a longtime fascination with prohibition and gangster history (so much so that I have a shelf in my library dedicated to gangster history books), which is why we decided to do it first. The first thing I noticed when we went in to the room was the drop ceiling. Nothing takes me out of an immersive experience quite like a drop ceiling. It may seem like a small thing, but the lights are so bright and it just screams "office building," which doesn't really work when you're trying to convince someone that you're... anywhere but an office building. The scenic could definitely have benefited from some kind of disguise for the ceiling and some more creative lighting. Overall the scenic did read as pretty cheap, but there were some cute decorative elements that I enjoyed. I also enjoyed most of the puzzles in this particular game. There was at least one red herring that I remember in both of Xscape's games, which I generally dislike as I think it's a bit of a lazy puzzle choice. But oh, let me pause on the critical analysis of the games themselves. Because none of that really matters. It's not the business owners' fault--they didn't make these games. When we finished Speakeasy, we were pretty pleased. Here we are, thinking these local business owners had designed this game. We were talking to the owner about what we liked about the game and he mentioned that another game, Blackbeard's Brig, was "made by the same company." Pause. Suddenly I'm not as impressed and everything makes sense. Why the puzzles were so well-connected when the rest of the experience was relatively disjointed. Why the intro videos were sleek and professional. This is one of those pre-made escape rooms, probably from Russia, that I've heard so much about. Go ahead--Google "Lucky Duck Speakeasy" or "Blackbeard's Brig," and you'll find plenty of results for these escape rooms' various copies across North America. It's just disappointing to know that you're playing a game mass produced for distribution as opposed to playing something that someone put their heart into. Suddenly I was less excited that we made the leader board. Despite this, we played Blackbeard's Brig as well. It was more challenging than Lucky Duck Speakeasy, but I didn't like the majority of the puzzles as much. They just weren't as interesting, with the exception of one in the final room, which I did like a lot. But overall, I felt, who cares? I didn't really care about critiquing the room itself because it wasn't the owners' doing. I don't consider three stars to be a bad review. I'm not someone who's afraid to give a one or two-star review if I feel it's deserved. Three stars is "just okay." We had fun, but was it great? Nah. It was just fine. My advice to the owners would be this: if you're really passionate about escape rooms and aren't just in it for the "business" side of things, I would implore you to make your own rooms. It's more interesting, more impressive, and you can tell when someone made something out of their own creativity and passion rather than out of a box. If you just want to make a couple of bucks for a couple of years, then this will do, but this business is exploding and if you want to keep up with the competitors, you have to step up your game. read more

My wife and I have played a number of escape rooms at a number of different places, but this place was by far our favorite. The puzzles are creative, fun, and challenging. However, it's Kevin, the owner, that makes this particular place so remarkably fun. He's professional, laid back, helpful, and operates his business with the following ethos: "I just want everyone to have a whole lot of fun." Needless to say, everyone in our group had an absolute blast. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. This escape room was really cool, but some of the puzzles weren't as fun as other ones we have been to. With that said however- the workers are so sweet and really helpful and their rooms are COOL, but compared to other rooms we have been to some of the puzzles were boring. Overall really cool experience, but not the best escape room we've been to! My suggestion is to make the puzzles more fluent and maybe instead of the screen commentary, make it so that you announce things over the whole room like with a speaker. That way the people completing the puzzle won't have to go back and look at the screen every 3 minutes! read more
