The place looks small on the outside but it's pretty big on the inside. You order first and they'll give you a stick with a number on it and you choose whichever table you want and they'll bring out the food to you. I ordered the Vampiro & Pollo tacos and the horchata drink. Their horchata drink was good! Both tacos were delicious but I think I like the vampiro one better. Both tacos were flavorful and it was crunchy. It was a good portion! They have indoor and outdoor seating. Once you're done, you'll put your plates by the bin/trash area. Street parking. It's easy to take bart and walk over to Xolo. I would come back here again!
We needed a quick bite to eat before a comedy show at the Paramount, and this fit the bill. You order at the register, and take a seat. The place has an industrial feel with very high ceilings and an open kitchen. All the tacos were the same price, which was a bit strange, but easy. However, they are above $5, so a bit on the high size. At least they came with two tortillas each and a decent amount of filling. I ordered one Camarones and one al pastor. My husband got carne asada I think and Chile verde. I ate my shrimp one first and then noticed that my other taco was not al pastor. I showed the woman behind the register, but she said to show the chef in the kitchen, which was a little strange. Then he came to survey our table. It appears that the tacos were plated incorrectly. My husband had a tiny bit left of an al pastor taco, but he didn't notice that ours were switched. I hadn't either because I didn't hear him order so I didn't know what he ordered. I thought they would have been like too bad, we brought your table four tacos; you should have figured it out despite the plating error. My husband offered me his last bite or the Chile verde. I don't really care for that meat so it was fine. However, I was surprised when the cook appeared again with a new al pastor taco for me. That's was nice since although my order was incorrect, the 4 correct tacos were in fact delivered to the table. I really enjoyed the shrimp taco and felt that it was a better bang for your buck than some of the other varieties. The al pastor was pretty good, but not as good as I've had at other places. I thought our tacos were fine, and this certainly ticked what we needed before the show, but I would not come out of my way to go here. It's a very convenient location though if you are going to a venue nearby. Ps: Would have appreciated free chips, but you won't find that here.
Tried the crispy beef tacos, carne asada tacos and the big ranch burrito. Everything was on the pricey side and not worth the price in my opinion. The best thing was the crispy taco but it was nothing special. The burrito was very one dimensional in texture and taste and kind of small for the price. The al pastor tasted like stewed pork with pineapple and was very soft along with everything else in the burrito. Didn't get the chips and guac but it looked pretty good. Definitely can find better Mexican food in the east bay.
Found this spot on a visit to Oakland downtown. The decor inside is like visiting some town in Mexico. They got a lot of options including vegetarian. Tried their Hongos burrito and I absolutely loved the taste. Their bean and rice burrito is good as well. Decent portions and fast service.
The pollo burrito was very flavorful and it came out within a few minutes. I would say the restaurant is like a fast casual restaurant where you order at the register and if you're eating there, you get a table number and they bring your food to your table. I recommend going here if you're in the area and need a quick bite to eat. I came 5 minutes before 12 pm on a Tuesday and right around 12 is when it started to get busy (understandably for lunch), but there are lots of tables and service was fast. I would come back to eat here again and so thankful this restaurant is in the area.
Xolo is a great place for some authentic Mexican food! They have great tacos, burritos and chips. You order your food at the counter and they give you a number. Once your food is ready they bring it to your table! The inside is large with plenty of seating.
Was visiting from LA looking for good tacos and I LOVED it! Super authentic, amazing flavors, great staff. Definitely a staple! 10/10
A casual and laid back taqueria, with inviting decor and plenty of seating inside. We ordered online in advance (for dine-in) and it only took about 8 minutes for our food to be ready, with helpful notifications via text. Got the chile relleno and surf n turf burrito minus the beans, and the latter was a flimsy burrito, scarce with the toppings. On top of that, everything tasted a bit dry even with the oils of the ingredients inside, my bf couldn't even finish the chile relleno. So, it wasn't exactly our favorite meal, but at least the service and atmosphere were great.
Surprised with the low rating because I really enjoyed it! The beyond meat tacos were packed with flavor and well balanced seasoning wise. Their tacos are stuffed to the brim so they're a bit messy to eat but totally worth it. The only caveat I can think of is the price to size ratio for the tacos is not that great - having a full meal means having at least three tacos so ~$16+. Also appreciated how many vegetarian options they had - the beyond meat tacos, mushroom tacos, and the vegeteriano. There's tons of indoor seating with a nice casual vibe so this is a perfect spot to drop by for lunch if you're in the area.
Solid spot for Mexican food right across from Fox Theater! On my most recent visit, my party of 3 came by for dinner around 6:30 pm on Friday and it was half full. The tables slowly all filled up over the next hour as we were eating. You order at the front, get a number, and they'll bring your order to you. I shared the chips and salsa ($3.75) with my friends and got the surf and turf burrito for $13.95 as my entree. I was starving, so I was really happy they're so quick with bringing the food out to you. All of us had our food within minutes of ordering! The burrito was a bit on the smaller side but was more than enough to fill me up. You really can't beat the combination of carne asada + shrimp, especially when it's nice and buttery and served wrapped in a burrito with rice and beans. It was a very satisfying meal and really hit the spot for me!

Have you tried the pozole? Aaaaammaaazziing. Hands down probably the best thing on their menu. I also tried the shrimp and fish tacos. The shrimp was good, however I got 2 shrimp and the rest fish in my shrimp tacos. And the fish taco was ok. I got sick for the rest of the day which wasn't exciting for me. But I would def go again and try something else... just maybe not the seafood. read more
Quick stop before we head into the city and it did not disappoint! Oh man these shrimp tacos just brought me back to life. Creamy sauce with just the right amount of crunchy cabbage. Great customer service and the food was on the table within 5 minutes of sitting down! I'll be back later this week to try the Chile relleno burrito! Thanks Xolo! read more
Had a nice casual dinner here with friends earlier this month. The prices are affordable for Oakland with each taco being priced at about five dollars with multiple options including vegetarian and pescatarian options. I was tempted to get a burrito which goes for about $13 but went for tacos instead. I really enjoyed my carne asada and fish taco with a Mexican Coke. Unfortunately, they didn't have churros on the day we went so we did not try dessert. My friend got the elote which looked decent, but I'm not sure I would get it personally. The interior of the restaurant is simple, casual, and fun. It's self service, but the ambience is good. read more
I would give Xolo a 3.5/5. Came here before going bar hopping with a friend. This is a cute little place that has really good food. I truly wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was. You order at the register and then you could take a seat and they would bring out the food. The ambiance is very casual and laid back. The setting is If you wanted, you could sit outside but it was too cold for that. I ordered chips and guac and 2 carne asada topics. The chips and guac were huge. Definitely can be shared. The tacos were good. They had a nice flavor to them. The salsa was also very good. This was a nice little place to grab something to eat before hitting the bars. read more

I went to Xolo after not going there for over ten years. It was no surprise that there burritos remain great. I bought 2 vegetatiano burritos and 2 chips with salsa. The burritos were well packed with no leakage when I arrived home and opened one. The salsa and the burrito sauce were fresh. My husband swallowed it up. But I could only eat half. I highly recommend Xolo. read more

Unassuming downtown taco spot but quite good! The staff is friendly and your order arrives fast. I think the portion size here is excellent for the price, especially nowadays. I didn't get chips n guac this time, but when you do, they load you up. Easy parking up front if you roll over on a bicycle or moto! Went with - 2x crispy beef 1x carnitas 1x fish 1x carne asada I recommend sticking with the crispy beef! Maybe I'm biased but I'm all about that fresh hardshell with melted cheese, which is why I keep coming back here lol. Gotta get the orange Jarritos as well for that sugar overload :D read more
Wow! Another great restaurant discovery in Oakland! Using the Caviar app, I ordered the Surf and Turf Burrito, 2 taco deal.....(Crispy Beef and Taco Pollo), and Churros. Very good food! You folks who left neg reviews must of ordered when it was really busy. I placed my order at 12 Noon on a Sunday. The tacos were presented well......just beautiful. And they travelled well in the container. The Crispy beef taco is so crisp and crunchy. The meat is fresh and juicy. Toppings have a burst of flavor that shout out GOOD STUFF served here. The Taco Pollo is good, with it's savory marinated chicken. OK, $11 for a Shrimp and Beef Burrito, is it worth it? It's a large heavy burrito wrapped in foil. It's got shrimp, beef, beans, rice and cheese. The jalapenos got my attention. I liked it, it's enough for a meal by itself. There's no overpowering flavors. That's another thing, there's no spicy house dressing or hot sauce added to the food. So there's nothing hiding the true flavor. Oh yeah, there's no free chips or sauces. We ate fish and lengua tacos. Not both on same taco, obvs. Fish was fried, batter crispy. Aioli on the fish was tangy and slightly spicy. Language was super tender, served with a tasty green sauce . Casual atmosphere, could use some acoustic panels or something to cut down the reverb. Courteous, efficient staff. We will be going back to try more food - great 1st impressions! read more
Another review update... And I'll rate it for exactly what it was for me today. I needed something fast, delicious, and not too much food. Based on those criteria, they absolutely delivered. About 1:15 on Thursday afternoon, I walked in, ordered my normal mushroom taco (well, normal for me from 9 and 10 years ago when I came here all the time lol) at the counter, paid, was handed a number for the table and sat down. Approximately 1 to 2 minutes later, they delivered my taco. And it was perfection. It does not get any simpler than that, so thank you Xolo. And I'm really happy you're still around! read more

I will start by saying my review only applies to their takeout. I have not dined in, so the dining experience may vary. I have their takeout almost every other week as part of my company provided lunch, and each time I'm disappointed by the quality and lack of flavor. I do not recommend the burritos. There have been several times where my burrito was not wrapped properly and arrived dripping, leaving me to have to eat in front of my coworkers with my hands drenched. There is a general lack of flavor with their food. I've tried the burritos, tacos, and salad, and each of them have been quite bland. The chips are okay though, and the salsa is not bad. read more

My go-to spot for tacos in Oakland! I love their fish tacos and carne asada tacos, - the flavor is great, as well as the service. They have special tacos of the day written on the chalkboard as well, and I always try to add one to my usual order. High quality, authentic ingredients and I love their horchatas. The vibe of the place is cheerful, colorful, and bright -it's what caught my eye from the street! They also have plenty of outdoor seating if you'd prefer to dine and people watch. Parking can be tough along this busy street so be mindful of the parking signs. Definitely recommend trying this taqueria if you're near Oakland and have a taco craving. read more

TLDR: Rude staff, did not want to give us more condiments after paying nearly ~$40. Definitely not one dollar sign. Strongly suggest patronizing another restaurant. This review is long overdue. I found Xolo on July 27th using the "$" filter on Google Maps. The restaurant comes up as having a single dollar sign. I decide to stop in with a friend. I order a quesadilla suiza, she gets six tacos. My order comes out to $9 whereas hers is $25. After my order comes out, I ask for limes and salsa. I am told that "next time, you will have to pay". Bold of this man to assume that I will be coming back. My friend receives her order, which comes with a single, small container of salsa. She asks for more salsa and is told she needs to pay for it. I approach an older man working the kitchen, who I assume is the manager, and calmly attempt to explain in Spanish that my friend paid nearly $30 for six tacos and should receive extra condiments. In a flustered tone, he responds: "What do you want me to do about it? Go tell them." He's referring to the cashiers, to whom my friend is already paying $3 for salsa and chips. She gets a receipt and returns for her salsa and chips, but is very rudely turned away by the older man I spoke to earlier. He says the chips aren't on her receipt, she ain't getting chips. Oh boy. Cashier steps in, says she paid for chips. Finally, we get the d**** chips. To you, a customer, I strongly recommend visiting a different restaurant. I think you deserve to patronize an establishment that gives you as much salsa and limes as you want. I don't think you deserve to be treated like a cheater or thief when you ask for more condiments. To the restaurant, I recommend that you get in contact with Google Maps and change your dollar sign filter to "$$". I also recommend that you make salsa free upon request. I hope that you treat your future customers, especially Hispanohablantes, with dignity and respect. read more

I stopped by Xolo for a mid afternoon snack and overall it was good, but nothing amazing, and a bit overpriced. I only ordered the pollo taco (without the pickled onions) and it was tiny... like the tortilla was about 3-4 inches in diameter. Fortunately there's a good amount of meat and it was very flavorful, and the avocado salsa was great. The tacos are about $4 each. I also had the chips and salsa which were definitely below average. The chips were super hard and didn't have any salt. The salsa wasn't too flavorful and there really wasn't much of it for $3. I wish it would have came with more salsa choices, maybe I could have asked for more? I'm not sure :) The restaurant is close to Fox Theater, so if I'm ever in the area for a show I would stop by for a small bite, but probably wouldn't go back for a full meal. read more

Great place to fuel up before a night on Telegraph. Love that they have hongos (mushrooms) AND Beyond meat as an option for vegetarians. Enjoyed both the hongos (which were loaded to way overflowing!) and fish taco, and my friend swears by the surf and turf burrito. Just know that you'll have to ask them for any sauce or salsa you want on the side--they don't give you any. No chips or salsa either (which is good--I hate seeing chips get wasted at some of these restaurants). read more
Came here on a Friday night and sat in the cute back area. I got chips and salsa as an appetizer and the camarones & chile verde tacos. I liked the chile verde taco and wish the camarones taco had more of the aioli since it tasted dry to me. I also got the mango agua fresca which is also solid. I also got their sugar with sprinkles and chocolate chip cookie to try later. Although both were solid, I wouldn't get them again. Overall, I would return for their agua frescas and to try some other tacos. read more
Best tacos in Oakland!!! I like the great customer service, too. I tried the "impossible" and camarones (shrimp) tacos, and it was AMAZING! Great flavor and texture. I wished I had ordered more because those tacos were that delicious. Overall, I love this place. Xolo will be my go-to spot for tacos and late night food. read more

I came here on a Tuesday, but sadly they don't have a Taco Tuesday deal, so I got a pollo burrito instead. The burrito itself was pretty good, but smaller than average in size. Thankfully they don't skimp on the meat. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy. The black beans and salsa complemented it well. I wish it had a little more guacamole and rice. If you can grab a spot, I recommend sitting in their outdoor patio. It's a great lunchtime escape from busy downtown Oakland. read more

I come here every time I'm in town, it's a great spot right off the subway and the food is superb. Two tacos and chips will do you. Huge space, great people. Not much more to say, other than just some solid-solid tacos. read more

How can they be rated less than 5stars? Great staff, nice little hidden courtyard dining, really low prices , especially considering the quality of the food and the downtown location. BEST CRISPY BEEF TACOS EVER! I mean I never had anything that has even come close to being this good as far as tacos go. Seriously, pick this place for your next meal! read more

This place is giving hidden gem! I have never been until today and I'm glad i did! I got the chili verde taco & the pastor taco! A little sad that there was no pineapple in the pastor; but that's perfectly fine bc the chili verde taco was ! This was one of the best chili verde i have had, I'm very picky but this one passed the test. It's real cute inside, nice vibe and I'll forsure be back to try more. read more
