I've been to a lot of Korean spas across LA and Orange County like Century, Wi, and Crystal, so I know what to expect. A friend recommended this one and I thought it'd be fun to try something new, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The only reason I'm even giving it two stars is because of the owner, Mr. Kim. He greeted me at the front, was very polite, and took time to explain everything even though I already knew how these spas work. His friendliness stood out, but that was the only positive part of my visit. Parking was easy and free, which was nice, and I got a spot right in front. The spa is inside a small indoor plaza that feels more like an outdated mini mall than a wellness spot, and the entrance is confusing. Once inside, everything felt cramped and outdated. The cold plunge and jacuzzi were ridiculously small, maybe two and a half feet deep, and you could barely fit two people without bumping elbows. The jacuzzi wasn't hot enough, the cold plunge wasn't cold at all, and the overall atmosphere didn't feel clean or rejuvenating. The amenities were just way below what you'd expect from a Korean spa. The sauna said 173 degrees but I sat there for over twenty minutes and didn't sweat once. The steam room was the opposite, dangerously hot. The steam comes out directly from a vent near the bottom, and if you're sitting anywhere close to it, it literally burns your legs. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's unsafe. Even sitting higher up, I had to constantly scoot away because of how intense the bursts of steam were. That should absolutely be fixed because it's a serious safety hazard. On top of that, the jacuzzi and cold plunge both had warning signs taped on the railings that said things like "Be careful, this is not strong, do not shake." That alone made me feel uneasy. If the metal railings aren't sturdy enough to lean on, they shouldn't be in use. It's something so simple to fix, and I don't understand how they're operating without addressing it. The common area wasn't comfortable either. There were a few massage chairs that you had to pay extra for and no real seating to relax. The orange uniforms were funny and bright, but it made the place look more like a gym than a spa. There are themed rooms like an oxygen room, but they don't offer much. I was planning to eat at the restaurant since the website said it was open, but when I asked, the staff told me it had been closed for a while. Honestly, that was probably for the best because the space is so small that food smells would've been overwhelming. They do offer a few small items like shaving cream, a disposable razor, and a scrub, which is thoughtful, but it doesn't make up for the lack of quality. Between the outdated facilities, safety hazards, and disappointing amenities, this place just isn't worth it. For the same price, I'd rather go to Joy Spa or Century Spa in Koreatown where you actually get what you pay for. Those places have better amenities, cleaner spaces, and real attention to comfort and safety. Pioneer Spa feels neglected, cramped, and uncomfortable. I left more tense than when I arrived and definitely won't be going back.

I think they packaged a deal where you can get a scrub and a 30 min massage for just a tad more. For my first time scrub experience.. it was an experience for sure and you have to really love and be comfortable with your body. When you check in, you will receive your locker key, uniform, and can request for toothbrush and razor as needed. Next you put your shoes and then your belongings and strip down! The wet sauna area is FULL nude. And you'll see people walking around naked in the locker room. You will be required to shower before you get into the hot tubs or sauna rooms. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. You can bring your own as well! Compared to other spas i've gone to, the have a bar soap and some decent shampoos. I just think its weird to have a communal bar soaps around. I tried to find the soap bodywash. The hot tubs were soo relaxing as well as the steam rooms. I felt all more pores opening. There is also a cold plunge for those who like that. If you are doing a scrub they will call your number (your key number) and lead you to the scrubbing tables. They are separated stalls but its in an open room. There will be a korean aunty in a swimsuit that will instruct you to turn front back side to side as she starts scrubbing you. When you get to the point of no flacks given, life is so relaxing. I let aunty scrub me down and descale me like a fish and I watched all my dead skin melt off. I do have to say they get pretty close to the crotch area and also pretty close to your crack. It caught me by suprise as I didnt think they'd go there but they are respectful and will put a towel in your nether regions. But literally no area was not baby skin smooth afterwards. What also caught me by suprise was it also included a hair wash and a freshly grated cucumber facial. I left feeling so good and i dried off, uniformed and met my friends at the common area. Common room is really relaxing and "room temp" and then you can increase in temp with the different rooms they have. There is a relatively room temp room (bamboo) and a cold room (which i love, basically a freezer). You can order drinks and snacks to the common room via kiosk. When we got hungry, we had to exit through the front desk area and enter the restaurant. And again the best food i've ever had and drinks. We were 3 girls and ordered 2 things. Bossam and the galbitang and STUFFED was an understatement. We ate so much and had enough to take home. We went back to spa and came back for their bingsoo which was so good! Special shoutout to the rice water tea and the peach fruit tea. SO GOOD. Spa itself, I do wish some amenities are updated. But the restaurant is really the reason why I keep coming to this spa.

The salon was beautiful, clean, cozy, and welcoming. I chose the service that included a hair wash and facial treatment. Amy first took me to have my scalp checked, and then we went into the treatment room. I changed into comfortable clothes, and Amy was incredibly sweet and attentive from the very beginning. She prepared a large bag for my belongings, and wherever we went, she carried it with her. That honestly made me feel like my things were safe and well taken care of. Once I lay down on the bed, Amy dimmed the lights and the relaxing music started playing. Everything was clean, the equipment looked well maintained, and I immediately felt comfortable. She cleansed my face and started the facial massage. There may have also been some kind of red-light treatment or a face mask--I'm honestly not completely sure because she didn't explain every step. But I didn't mind at all. I wasn't there to analyze every treatment. I just wanted to relax, clear my mind, and enjoy some peace. Then came the hair wash. The sound of the bubbles, the comb moving through my hair, and the water running were unbelievably relaxing. I actually fell asleep for a little while. I felt so comfortable and completely relaxed. After the treatment, I felt recharged and ready to go back to work and face the world again. Sometimes, giving your body and mind a chance to slow down and relax is exactly what you need to feel energized again. Afterward, we went outside to dry my hair, care for my scalp, and check my scalp one more time. They also gave me a little snack and some warm tea, which was such a lovely touch. Then I went back into the room to change. When I came out to pay, Amy never once pressured me or even hinted about tipping. She was so kind and never made me feel obligated at all. Of course, I gave her a 20% tip because I genuinely appreciated the comfort, care, and happiness she gave me during this experience. I'm writing this review because I want to encourage anyone who hasn't taken time to relax and take care of themselves--women, men, or anyone of any gender--to give it a try. We work hard. We carry stress. Sometimes we forget that our bodies and minds need a break, too. Take some time for yourself. Let yourself relax. It's truly worth it.

Most spas offer lymphatic drainage with a facial, but I didn't want that. I just wanted the massage. I found Agave through Yelp and I am so glad I did. This place is located on a quiet street in uptown Whittier. There's free parking in front on the street or a free parking structure directly across. The place is small on the outside but seems bigger on the inside. It's super clean and gives off a relaxing vibe. The massage room has a wall of battery operated candles that give off that ambient lighting and the soothing music is the cherry on top. Liz is so sweet. Talking to her feels like talking to an old friend. She's knowledgeable and good at what she does. The first session I did, I just got the facial massage, but during my session she learned I was post op and suggested the chin contour treatment which comes with red light therapy to promote healing and another machine that uses heat to help tighten the skin. The massage feels like a good type of pain. I know she's working her magic and I leave Agave with my jawline snatched. I love how she suggests things I can do while at home, in between sessions. And she makes sure I'm doing my part to help myself heal. I can't wait to be fully healed and try the other treatments they offer.
