Everyone I interacted with there was professional, helpful, and friendly. Unfortunately, the good service at the front desk didn't extend to the rest of the hotel. The bar and Lotti's restaurant were both consistently understaffed, and the service was extremely slow. Lotti's also seemed to be out of a lot of the main dishes, even though the menu is already pretty limited. As for the rooms, they were okay, but felt a little worn and could really use some updating. Nothing terrible, but for what the hotel charges, I think you should be able to expect a bit more comfort and quality. After checking out the W Hotel nearby, which was much nicer for a similar price, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For nearly $4500 after taxes for three nights in two rooms at the Hoxton, I honestly felt a bit cheated. Again, the front desk team deserves credit, but overall, I think the Hoxton needs to step up its game to justify these rates.

The runs were a bit of a surprise and it took me a minute to get used to it, but it works, especially for a solo traveler or a couple that is at least very familiar with each other could enjoy. The room was compact, but it was very comfortable and perfect for someone who's not planning on spending a lot of time in the room, but visiting a wonderful city. I even got used to the unusual "matter transporter" toilet and shower, functional and take up minimal space in a small room. The shower is situated in the middle of the room and completely clear/open. There is a sheer curtain that half covers it but you can still clearly see the person showering - it's so odd and I have never seen anything like it. Similarly, the washroom is also pretty open, it has a round door that confines you when closed. The entire room is controlled via an iPad which came in handy when controlling the curtains, lights, TV, temperature. There's no in room dinning. And they offer a half cleaning service (towel refresh) and no linen change. Overall, it's fine and I would stay here again if I was travelling with my husband or solo. I would not stay here with a friend or family again given all the constraints.

The location was perfect for being far enough away from Central Station/Red Light District but close enough for arrival/departure purposes. Situated on a canal adjacent to, if not actually in the Jordan area, super close to the Anne Frank house and walking distance to a handful of cafes, cocktail lounges, eateries, etc. Super easy to get buses/trams/walk to other neighborhoods as well and separated from the hustle and bustle so when you arrived back each night, you could leave the hectic nature of the day outside. While I didn't indulge in the dining/bar on site, it's absolutely stunning. An extremely welcoming, romantic vibe, complete with goth-y and velvet accents.

There weren't any bells or whistles, and it's clear they have updated some things about the hotel with others still needing that update and refresh. My major complaint was that we didn't really receive a room upgrade despite there being availability. I'm not really one to waive my IHG Diamond status around or try to be "that" kind of hotel guest, but we did politely ask after seeing availability and was told there was no availability. I haven't found the room upgrade benefit to be a universally applied one in Europe to be honest. Had that worked out, we might have had a better impression of the room quality, size, and overall stay. Other than that, the location is solid being so close to the Zuid station. The live music in the bar area on Thursday was great, and in general, the bar was solid overall. If you have club lounge access, there is a club here, but most of the benefits are taken outside of the club. Those additional efforts to make the club lounge benefit meaningful for those with access despite the lounge area itself not really having much were appreciated. Overall, definitely solid. With just a bit more umph to the room, an easy 5-star review.

When I brought this to the manager's attention, she was defensive and insisted they would need a receipt and to speak with staff before even considering compensation. I was jet-lagged, tired, smelly and in desperate need of a hot shower and a place to rest. Nimka, at reception totally emphasized, called house-keeping and 45 mins later my room was available. The hotel's owner was also happy to supply me with a resident letter which was super essential for me to register with Amsterdam Town Hall and without which, I wouldn't have been able to work. Also Carlo at the front desk, later on in my stay checked that I was happy and when I mentioned the smell of the soup was fairly aggressive for me, since I'm a wee bit sensitively artificial smells, they got a neutral scent soap for me! Just saying! Moving on to the room - oh la la!! It's modern hipster living design elements at its best. Any Brooklynite's reading this review would totally want to live in this space! Everything (including the kitchen sink!) has its place and yet the room walked super spacious. I had a side view of the street and loved the blackout curtains so could sleep comfortably in the massive bed. The headboard was too cute / it's shape profile was like an Amsterdam canal house! The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with pots/ pans/ baking dish/ cutlery etc. No toaster but I used the pan and excellent coffee plus tea machine. Tons of storage space and a lovely + comfy couch. Loved the thoughtfully curated books about Amsterdam that were in the bookshelf as well as the side table. Gadget-wise too, this hotel rocks! All the light switches are dimmers! If you press down on the switch longer, it becomes brighter! There are two usb chargers built-in next to the bedside table, which is super convenient. Also, the shower in the bathroom was fantastical! They had a rain shower which just melted away all my travel dirt and it was super refreshing to use, with great water pressure. The hand-held shower has 3 settings which it was super easy to toggle between. The tiles were delft blue and so u totally got the Dutch feeling. BTW, did I mention how spacious it was? Other amenities that impressed me was the sauna and the gym. There is a restaurant also attached with Movenpick Ice-cream!! This is my fave brand of ice-cream in the world! Ben & Jerrys!?! Pshaw! Movenpick's where it is at! Silky, smooth, buttery - make sure u try this ice-cream at the restaurant if u stay here. We were able to find a last minute room here, and the rest was history. This hotel is modern, spacious, and delightfully new. We loved our room - from the techie-friendly way to open the door (don't worry - really easy!) to the modern bathroom with huge waterfall shower. The bed was very comfortable with two USB ports on each side for easy charging. There was even a stocked Nespresso machine in the mini-kitchen! The surrounding area was nice, with plenty of food in walking distance and the tram right out front. We were able to hop on the tram to get into the main city or head to the airport! (We did both.) I wish we had taken more photos, because this place is so cool that you have to see it to believe it. We will absolutely return to Amsterdam, if only to stay here. Long story short? Choose this one! The shower stall was my one complaint about our room - too easy to soak the room - but not atypical for European layouts. We are Hilton Honors so we're able to take advantage of the executive lounge on the top floor (light snacks daily with a happy hour from 5-7). The lounge closes a little too early though, 8pm. Views and decor are great, all glass and feels like being in a greenhouse. Daily breakfast buffet is exceptional, food for whatever mood you're in with a few rotating items daily, also made to order eggs and beverages. Some highlights included honey from a honeycomb, tea bar with fresh ginger, mint and lemon, daily smoothie shots, mimosa bar, and take-away croissants at the door. We had a few special requests, extra trash bags and a rollaway bed for our toddler which were easily accommodated. They also have huge umbrellas to borrow which came in handy as it was very rainy during our trip. Speaking of rain, the hotel is right on a canal and has huge windows everywhere to enjoy the cozy mood if you stay in. Hope to come back again!

The thing that really got us was the wonderful service. The desk staff went above and beyond on more than one occasion. We decided to stay an extra two days in Amsterdam because we were having a great time. We booked another night because it was available and they ensured our experience was seamless. Same room, no check in check out. They were full the second night but set us up at their sister property and facilitated the transition. Extremely impressed and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

It had easy transit to both tram (connecting with central station) and bus with stops outside of the hotel. It is near good restaurants as well and bakeries and love that a grocery store was steps away too. The service was fantastic and they were so kind to upgrade us from our original deluxe room to rooftop suites (we had booked three rooms traveling with my parents as well). It was an incredible experience with rooms well appointed and Dutch architecture but so spacious for the city. I had originally booked here since their deluxe rooms were larger than the rooms I was finding in other hotels but loved the views from the windows and ample space with seating areas. My husband enjoyed use of the gym during our stay. It was very zen and fortunately not crowded in the evening hours. We hope to visit Amsterdam again and would plan on returning here since it was an amazing stay despite it being on the top end of our range :). (It looks like the lower rated reviews on yelp are for their restaurant which we didn't try.... the hotel was amazing).
