Stayed for 3 nights while in Amsterdam. Room was great for the family as it had a bunk bed along with queen. Hard to find rooms in Europe for 4 so this was nice. Everything was clean, quiet. Only downside was it looked directly on to the train track so couldn't leave curtains open. That and the charging cube wasn't working. Aside from that location is great, next to street cars, train station and an easy 20min to the Anne Franck house. Front desk staff were super friendly and offered lots of suggestions when checking in. They always greeted us when walking in and out of lobby area. Nice to have the lounge downstairs.

Ibis Hotel

The hotel's location is adjacent to the Amsterdam Centraal train station and only a 15-minute walk to the center of Amsterdam (Dam plaza); these were among the major reasons I booked it. It is about a 30-35 minute walk to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and about a 20-minut walk to the Anne Frank House. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. Despite the proximity to the trains, the hotel was quiet. The included daily buffet breakfast was good. And the overall price seemed better than a lot of other area hotels. The area felt fairly safe. You should stay vigilant for things like pickpockets near the rail station, but there was never a 'dangerous' vibe in the area. Amsterdam in general and the area around the hotel in particular is very walkable. Your biggest risk is getting run over by a bicycle. The rooms may be better in a (standard) 2-single bed configuration. We got a 3-single configuration and there was almost no floor space. We made do with pushing open suitcases under the beds when we did not need to access them. The bathroom was not large either. There was almost no shelf space in either room. We did have a view across the water to the film museum. WiFi: Using my laptop, WiFi was fine. However, on any Apple device, it was hit-or-miss. It would sometimes not connect, or if connected would drop after 5 - 10 minutes. The staff recommended restarting the device but that seemed to only temporarily fix this sometimes. Luggage storage: We arrived before our room was ready (no issue there). The hotel also had a free luggage storage room. It is accessed via a loaned key-card, which you use to access an upper floor and then use again to open the luggage room door itself. This seemed reasonably secure and when we stored the bags (around 10:30 a.m.) there was plenty of space. I just put the bags on a middle shelf at the far end from the door. However, when we returned (around 1:30 p.m.), we found the door to the luggage room was ajar. This was puzzling until we opened it - there were so many bags that it couldn't close! It took me a few minutes to remove enough luggage into the hallway to allow some sort of entry into the room. From there I managed to extract our bags. I then tried to put the other bags back into something resembling their original positions. The room is not climate controlled, so I worked up a good sweat with all the lifting in there. In retrospect, maybe this was a good thing, in terms of added security. If anyone *had* wanted to steal bags, they certainly wouldn't have gone to all the trouble to get to mine. As an alternative - the hotel does offer some luggage lockers (for ~ 4 Euros for 8 hours, or something similar) on the ground floor. These have key locks and likely won't be filled with other bags when you return, so it might be worth considering. If I returned to Amsterdam, I might shop around to see what else was available. However, if you don't mind the room size, this is a decent place to stay and certainly has some advantages.

We had a great stay at the Ibis. Our room always comfortable and quiet + the restaurant/ bar downstairs was excellent.

Small, unremarkable bathroom

The rooms are no better than a Travelodge. It was over €200 a night ( this is about $240 ), taking advantage of the New Year's weekend. Some of the buttons on the phone didn't work. Here in Amsterdam they charge or I got charged for the 4 nights like a €32 hotel tax. That's not the hotel's fault but I sure won't come back to Amsterdam or the Netherlands ever again. Breakfast is about €13 if you buy the meal at the front desk otherwise if you go to the breakfast room the price is €17; an unremarkable buffet breakfast and quite highly inflated price. They do sell refreshments close to the check-in counter and a litre bottle of water cost €6! I am thoroughly disgusted with his hotel. It's even amazing that they include Wi-Fi.. They do offer a premium Wi-Fi as well for a fee. I wish I had never heard of it and had never taken a New Year's holiday in this country which smells of marijuana on the street.

Bed bug bites

Do not stay at this hotel. Not clean and I was bitten by bed bugs. See pictures. After 3 nights I was being bitten in my left side and thought it was mosquito bites. Every morning I would wake up and the bites would continue. After really getting annoyed, I searched the bed and after pulling up the sheets I noticed a filthy covering over the mattress(see pics) and saw bugs moving around. The mattress cover was filthy and looks like it had. It been washed in a very long time! I changed rooms and they gave me one night for free(big deal). The bathroom was also not too clean. The shower didn't drain properly and there was mold on the walls of the shower. I suggest you don't stay at this hotel! Horrible BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS. RUINED MY TIME IN AMSTERDAM!

Small but perfectly formed bathroom.

I was very impressed with this hotel. Location It could not have been more conveniently located. It's a 2.60 EUR and three stop trip from Schipol to Amsterdam Centraal, and the Ibis is just 3 minutes walk to your right as you leave the station. Every tram in Amsterdam goes back to Amsterdam Centraal and I suspect every bus does too. It is extremely easy to get to! It is on the canal, in a bike park that holds 35,000 bikes on a good day and right by the station, yet it is not dirty or seedy. There are no weirdos hanging out or winos to trip over! Rooms The rooms are pretty small, but very very functional. the bed was generously sized for a double and very comfortable, as were the pillows. There is a desk and small open wardrobe and shelves. It comes with a telly that was in the perfect position for watching in bed. The room has blackout curtains and highly controllable AC. The bathrooms are pretty tiny, but the showers managed to be quite spacious. They provide one goo that does for body, face and hair wash. The towels are not huge and fluffy, but they worked fine. Everything was spotlessly clean and my towels were changed daily. We had rooms overlooking the train station, and you can hear the trains rumbling past. It is possible to get rooms on the other side (they are the odd numbers) if you ask at reception when you check in. I actually loved the deep comforting sound (it's only very faint) and there weren't many at all during the night. Breakfast The breakfast is buffet style and unlimited, so can easily provide for lunch too! They have cereal, toast, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, croissants, cheese and ham. As well as yoghurt, boiled eggs and fruit. The coffee comes out of a machine - top tip, get a black filter coffee and fill it up with milk from the cereal bar as the milk in the machine was not my cup of tea. The breakfast room was clean, large and really well set out to have some privacy. It wasn't a huge swarm of tables and chairs. I liked that. They serve from 4am-noon, so plenty of choice on the time you eat! Service Every person we spoke to was engaging, helpful and very friendly. They really seem to be the most cheerful lot I have ever come across! This even applied when I was teaching the poor long suffering bartender how to make a pot of tea "Brit style"! Value for Money It cost us around 90 EUR a night for bed and breakfast per room. I thought that for what we got, it was well worth it. Oh, and it has free Wifi!

At any rate, my experience was great. Tasteful and elegant deco atmosphere. People singing in the street at 2:00 am, but that's Leidesplein. Chalk it up as part of the experience.

As we were visiting Amsterdam again I decided, on this trip, to spoil us a little. On booking I was a little concerned that the Hard Rock organisation had taken this hotel over. So with trepidation I took the chance. OK, remember, we are oldies so can be hard to please some tell us. On arrival, the outside hadn't changed other than the bar now stretched out a little and there was service from the restaurant outside. Reception was so swift by a fantastic bubbly young lady who sorted out a room although we were three hours before the normal signing in. I wish I could remember her name. Walking to our room I noticed the architecture hadn't changed but the decoration was wonderful with so much rock music memorabilia. We LOVED it. The room, overlooking the canal, was a lot smaller than years ago but, shrug, space has to be filled. The room was more than adequate with a wonderful bathroom with walk-in shower. Breakfast was in the dining hall which was a high-light years ago. I was so pleased to see that none of the wonderful art deco had been lost. The President Hotel in Prague had ripped it all out there, sob. Here, there was modernisation, but the windows, walls and lights remained. Obviously the designer had looked and thought 'wow, we can't get rid of this'. Good on him/her. A fantastic stay and on our next visit we know where to stay. Really wish I could remember that young ladies name because she made that day for us. Hi

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
