Fresh do!

The vibe in this salon is fantastic as well as the staff. I love my visits with Catherine Gibbs. Cathrine G is a level 3 stylist that has an eye for color and knows how to cut and style hair. She is someone I fully trust with my hair and love sitting in her chair. They have a pay scale set up by level stylists and I paid $120 for fun color and a cut. From the first visit to now I have fully trusted her and love how my hair grows out. I get so many compliments on my hair and it is the first time in a long time I feel like my hair looks great all the way to the next appointment.

I love this hair salon!!! I was coming to this location when it was named another salon then it reopened as XO hair lab. When I first came here I immediately loved the vibe. The colors, decor and ceiling were all so clean and pretty. When they took me to the back to wash my hair it was nice looking up at the flowers hanging down and it wasn't just a plain colored ceiling. I thought that was a beautiful touch. The stylist are all friendly and very good. When I sat down my stylist asked me what I was looking for and explained the cut to her and even showed her pictures. She was able to execute it and gave me the exact cut that I was looking for. I was very happy and immediately made my next appointment upon checking out. If you're looking for a new hair salon be sure to check them out!!

Such an amazing experience! I went in for the curly cut and my stylist did such an amazing job! For my curly/ wavy hair girl definitely go see Lauren Owen. She's amazing a miracle worker!! I haven't felt so pretty in my own hair in a hot minute.

Catherine continues to SLAY my hair! Staff is always super friendly and the salon decor is a work of art!

When my previous stylist for the last five years announced that she would be moving out of the area I was feeling a little lost. I didn't really have an attachment to the salon she was working out of so I not only needed to find a new stylist, but also a new salon. Via Instagram I watched XO Hair Lab open their new studio in Chesapeake and just the design alone seemed like my kind of vibe. Then they posted some of their stylist's work and it truly captured my attention. But did I really want to drive to Chesapeake as an Oceanfront girl.... nah. I kept up with the search, but also kept following Xo and some of their stylists, including Erin W. As the weeks went by my hair was getting longer and her colorful creations were giving me major hair FOMO. Going for a "creative" color was always something I had wanted to do, but I was afraid of the price and commitment. Finally, one of her pictures popped up on a day I was feeling bold and I just went for it and made the appointment. Y'all- I am so glad I came to Xo. First, this salon is over the top GORGEOUS! Unlike any place hair salon or other that I have seen in Hampton Roads. Stunning details from top to bottom. It just screams "creativity flows through here." They have a hallway with rooms for waxing, massages, and other spa experiences. There is a retail area with skin and hair products. Then the other half of the space is where the hair magic happens. I was immediately greeted when I entered and offered a cup of coffee, tea, or water while I filled out a questionnaire. Then Erin came over and took me back to her station where we talked about what we were doing. I had initially messaged her an idea on Instagram based on two looks that she has done previously. My idea did not involve all over color, just underneath. When I sat down I let my wildest hair dreams took over and I decided that I was ready and willing to take the plunge for full-on-purple hair! She showed me a few colors to get a sense of what I was feeling and we both seemed to have the same feelings. From there I just trusted her instincts and let her do her magic. There is some crazy, galaxy, unicorn, magic on my hair now and I absolutely adore it. Those pictures they post on their social medias aren't edited, they are truly #nofilterneeded. I gave Erin a vague description of what I wanted for cut and color and she made it look so much better than I expected. I am just thrilled with the result. I keep going back to the color- but the cut is also fantastic too! She really listened and delivered. Also, she was really transparent with the pricing throughout the whole process which I appreciated. Having fun hair is a bit of an investment, but it wasn't as bad as I feared it would be. I think all the prices are pretty competitive for the Hampton Roads area, and they do have different "level" stylists that come with different pricing. I also just really enjoyed Erin. She made the time fly by. She was very patient with my questions and gave me great tips for maintaining creative hair for the first time. She let me know what to expect as far as fading, which was also very appreciated. Everyone in the salon was also incredibly warm and friendly, not that stuffy high-end vibe where you would think that kindness costs money. You don't just feel pampered here, you feel welcomed. All the stars and purple heart emojis for Erin and Xo for taking me out of my comfort zone and giving me an absolutely "wow" worthy first creative color service and cut.

What I asked for

I didn't plan on leaving a review until my friend informed me that my photos were being shared on a private Facebook group without my permission, and Ash, the owner and service provider I saw, was complaining about me in a group for local mothers. Being new to the area, I was not aware of the reputation the salon had and wish I had looked at the Google reviews before booking my appointment. It's not a good sign when an owner fights with community members and argues with reviewers. I initially tried to book a partial highlight with Ash. The receptionist told me that what I was asking for was a different service called "baby lights" which didn't sound like what I was asking for and was quoted $500 for "partial baby lights and a cut". I told the salon representative that this was a bit higher cost than what I was anticipating and was told that "if you can't afford it then you can go to a level 1 stylist." Not a good start. I ended up booking a consultation with the owner, Ash. During the consult, Ash spoke over me, and I left feeling concerned that we weren't on the same page although I brought in pictures of what I wanted and had gotten in the past from my previous stylist . I stressed during the consult that I wanted fine partial highlights just around the front and 3-4 foils on the back to mask my grays when I pull my hair back, and I wanted to maintain my natural color as much as possible for low maintenance. I basically asked to have what my previous stylist did before I moved to Va Beach and had for nearly a decade. I have seen two junior stylists in Va Beach, and while both girls were super sweet, I really wanted natural, minimal highlights. I asked for an approximate cost, and Ash told me she could give me an exact price. When I saw the price breakdown, I asked to not have the additional conditioning treatment added since this was something I already owned and did for myself weekly. During the actual appointment it was a very negative experience. Ash complained about many stylists who had quit her salon, colleagues in the local industry, all the way down to her children's school faculty. I could see during the appointment that Ash was coloring my entire head with highlights and taking big chunks around the front, which is not what baby lights are or what was described to me as the technique associated with baby highlights. When I could see the final product, my heart dropped. My hair was completely blonde. I voiced my concerns, but I felt dismissed and again not heard. I was not only charged for the conditioning treatment I had requested not to have but was also charged for an additional "density" charge because she had opted to highlight my entire head instead of honoring what I had asked for. I ended up paying over $400, which was well over what I was quoted. After coming home and crying, I ended up calling a few days later to see if the color could be fixed since it was neither subtle highlights or anywhere close to the pictures I showed her. I was told I could come in for a consultation, and when I did, it was clear there was a lot of tension. At the salon, I was told I could come in for a "root shadow" which would cost $100 more. Ash sent one of her assistants to handle the situation and refused to talk to me directly. I offered to wait until she was available. Once this happened , Ash came over and accused me of trying to get services for free and said she did great work. I tried to assure Ash that I understood she was very talented, but the service was not what I had asked for. She said "Have a nice day" and pointed to the door. The whole experience has felt very belittling from the booking to the check in process which involves documenting your medical history and current medications. I wish any small business success, but hope that Ash recognizes that clients and customer services are important to maintaining a successful business.

I had a lovely time today at XO Hair Lab! I'd gone in today for toning/color glaze with Carmela and ended up writing a bang trim as well. Carmela was so lovely and friendly, and she was very easy to talk to about my hair goals. She is the best, and I came out of the salon feeling like I found my new favorite hair stylist and a new friend :) she deserves all the praise!!!!

I LOVE this salon. For many years I dyed my own hair. I damaged it greatly, on top of store bought shampoo and conditioner leaving a deep film of nasty. I went in after almost a year since my last haircut expecting to need to lose a ton of inches. Julianne was amazing and managed to bring my hair back to life without chopping off a bunch of hair.

First of all, I want to comment on how incredibly beautiful the salon is!! The ambiance is really inviting and everyone I encountered was very friendly. I booked a haircut/blow dry with the owner, Ash. She was extremely knowledgeable and kind. She was very easy to talk to, so I really enjoyed exchanging stories with her and hearing her story.. very impressive seeing young women doing what they love. She recommended a shampoo and conditioner for me, which I am now in love with. Very pleasant experience... and the cherry on top.. I LOVE my cut. The parking lot is huge so no need to worry about parking! Also there's a YNot next door so you can grab a slice when you're done if you feel inclined. Update as of 3/26/2020: I now visit the salon to get my lashes filled and brows waxed by the esthetician named Amie. She is so sweet and fun to be around. My full set of lashes was $100, my fills are $60 for anyone wondering. Brow waxing is $15.

Decided to try this salon out based off of just their instagram and I am so glad I tried them! Absolutely fell in love with the salon itself. It is extremely cute and well... totally instapic worthy! Bonus: They have a "processing room" where you can sit and relax, have a snack/tea/coffee, while you wait for your hair to... uh "process" I guess? I went on a Tuesday expecting to not be booked until later in the week or the next week because they seem so busy, but they were able to book me for the next day! I didn't have any particular stylist in mind but based of their instagram all their stylists seemed very talented. Anyways they booked me with Mandi and wow... she's amazing! She definitely knows her stuff. She was very informative and explained everything she was going to do before she did it and sometimes during. She also gave me options too on which technique/method I preferred when it came to coloring my hair. She not only listened to what I wanted.... she did it and made it even better! I can't speak anymore highly of her. She's sweet and talented, a great combo! A little over two weeks later I came back to get my hair done for a wedding I was a bridesmaid in and she killed it then too! I've gotten so many compliments on my hair since I got it done, whether I curl it or just wear it naturally straight! I have to be honest and say the cost was a bit appalling when I got the grand total at the end (it's the most I've ever spent on my hair) but hey you pay for what you get and the results were well worth the money. Also they are very proud of their work and like to basically have mini shoots with you after to capture your new awesome hair. You kind of get to feel like a model for a couple of minutes, lol.

First time! Took my grand daughter for a rush appointment, before assigning a stylist, she asked pertinent questions about the cut we wanted. Krista did a good job, took her time even though it's closing time. Thanks Krista! 100% recommend this place!

Nicole J did an amazing job on my hair! I wanted some layers especially framing my face, but still keep my length. She really hit the nail on the head. I will be going to her every time! The salon is also very beautiful with so many flower chandeliers.

Go see Courteney Collins! You won't regret it!

I can, in full confidence, say that there is no better salon in Norfolk/VA beach/Chesapeake area! Customer service- 10/10! Not only is the customer service outstanding, but so personable! You're not just an appointment or a cash cow to rush out the door. You're treated like a QUEEN/KING! The receptionist also gives you a form to fill out; asking things like the history of your hair care, what you like and don't like about your hair, what you would like to learn more about! No salon/stylist has ever cared enough to ask these kinds of questions before! Plus, they know how to make a great cup of coffee! Atmosphere-10/10! Zen, fun, and chic are the best ways to describe the salon. The floating flower beds are an ingenious design detail. I want one! My stylist- 10/10! Courteney Collins is a gift straight from the Big Man upstairs! She is so welcoming and easy to talk to. I felt like I was catching up with a friend. Not to mention, she's a phenomenal colorist and stylist. I learned so much from her; how to maintain my color properly, how to achieve the styles I want, and what products would or wouldn't benefit my specific hair type. I've never been so excited and more in love with my hair than I am now, now that I've been to XO. 100% you NEED to book an appointment with them!

I wasn't in search of a new hairstylist, as I love the one that I have gone to in the past…read more However, my go-to hairstylist is located in Wburg, so it takes a lot more coordination to make the trek to the other side of the water. My hair was so long and I was beyond annoyed with the length and definitely was in search of a new haircut. I asked my sister-in-law who she and my niece went to, and she referred me to Kayla at Sleek Salon & Spa. I submitted my inquiry on their website that night and that's where all the magic began. The inquiry was late, but I got a call from the salon mid-morning the very next day. The person who called me was so nice and answered my preliminary questions. It turned out that Kayla had availability that same day, so I jumped at the chance. - Kayla - My sister-in-law raved about her, so I was expecting no less. Kayla was super friendly when we met and asked what I had in mind. I also asked her the same out of curiosity lol... "as a hairstylist, what are you dying to do to my hair right now?" We came to an agreement (I wasn't feeling drastic this go around), but she did want to bring my hair back to a more healthy look. What I got: a haircut. She actually cut it twice, because the first time, she cut a few inches off, but I was being a little more daring and decided to cut another few inches off. I had so much hair! Due to my Asian heritage and the way Asian hair tends to behave, she suggested and asked that she reverse the process and cut my hair while it was dry, then wash and them blow dry. That was a great suggestion, because there weren't any surprises and it shows that she knows what she is doing! Result: The proof is in the pictures. I'll leave it at that. I must have lost a good 2 lbs just from the cut. It. feels. so. good. I ended up getting the leave-in conditioner that she used on my hair which was $47. A little steep, but it'll probably last me awhile. Things to note: - AVEDA products for sale only, unless AVEDA does not make a certain product. They have a mix of CBD products. - They are open late for working customers which I thought was very nice. I got an appointment at 7pm. - Stylist price varies according to education and experience. Kayla's haircut starts at $60 depending on texture and length, but my hair is in the middle, not thin and not that thick. I was charged $60, which I was so happy about because have you called around for haircuts these days? Kayla can take my money! - you can get $25 credit for referring new customers! The salon was pretty spacious too, and clean. Just a nice vibe. They don't play super loud music and play the chill vibe tunes, staying true to the word "spa" in their name. It's right next to Momo's Kitchen. They seem to cater to all ages too, because there were kids next to me getting their hair done also. Highly recommend, and enjoy, Friends, and never stop exploring!

But trusting Leilani and her team was the best decision I could have made. They are true artists and absolute masters of their craft. I didn't leave an immediate review after my haircut because I wanted to take time and reflect…read morerather than write out of emotion. My hair has since grown back, and with clarity, I feel comfortable sharing my experience. I booked a haircut online for a listed price of $70. During booking, I shared a reference photo and explained in detail that my hair is very long and thick, and that I needed a stylist who would be patient and not rush the service. When I arrived, I re-showed the reference photo and reiterated what I wanted. Once I was in the chair, the stylist explained that she only has one hour per client. Despite this, the appointment felt rushed and disorganized. I know this because my service ran into her next client's scheduled time. That client waited for a period of time and ultimately canceled with her and worked with another stylist in the salon. While the stylist stated she only had one hour per client, my appointment ran well beyond that. My scheduled appointment time was 12:30 PM. I received a text at 11:43 AM asking if I wanted to come in early, and my receipt was sent to me at 2:13 PM. Even accounting for arriving early, this places my appointment at over two hours from start to finish--far longer than the one-hour window that was repeatedly referenced. I specifically asked for layered hair with shorter layers to help with the weight. Instead, I was given long layers, and my hair was thinned out without my consent ( as you can see the bottom portion of my hair is noticeably thin, compared to the top) . I didn't say anything at the time because the thinning had already been done and couldn't realistically be fixed. While my hair is healthy and grows back, the haircut I received was not the haircut I asked for. It wasn't "messed up," but it also wasn't what I requested. At checkout, the stylist leaned over and whispered to the receptionist, after which an additional $25 charge for thick/long hair was added. This charge was not discussed with me directly, despite my hair length and thickness being clearly disclosed before booking. After leaving a Google review outlining these concerns, the owner publicly accused me of never being a client and stated she stood by her stylist, without acknowledging the issues raised. Later that same night, I was contacted directly via text around 10:30 PM asking to "chat." That message was unsolicited and crossed a professional boundary, especially after publicly dismissing my experience. The outreach did not include an apology and felt more focused on protecting the business's image than addressing client concerns. I was polite throughout this entire process and even tipped my stylist. There was no malice on my end--just honest feedback. While my hair did grow back, not everyone is in that position, and an experience like this could be very upsetting for someone struggling with self-image. Ultimately, the lack of communication, consent, and professionalism--both during the service and afterward--is why I would not return and why I'm sharing this experience here for other women
