In January 2021 I signed up for Comcast internet at $50 a month with automatic payments. In 2022, the subscription cost jumped up to $70; in 2023 it was $92, and then in January 2024 it went to $101 a month.
In other words, between January 2022 and January 2024 (two years) the cost of my monthly Comcast subscription doubled!
A few days ago, I cancelled Comcast and changed over to T-Mobile. It is $40 a month with automatic payments, and that price is guaranteed for life.
Yes, I do have a discounted plan because I'm a senior citizen, but the regular T-Mobile plans were much better priced than Comcast's. (I was already a senior citizen when I signed up for Comcast Internet in 2021).
Not only that, I have free Apple + TV, a Netflix subscription (with ads) and a number of other perks. These are not special promos, they are part of the plan I have subscribed to.
I live in Troy, MI and T-Mobile is every bit as good in terms of reception as Comcast was.
The in-house staff at T-Mobile was extremely helpful and easy to deal with, and I didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes to see someone.
Then I went to Comcast to turn in my TV box (if I don't, they will charge me $120 -- I don't have a tv and never wanted that box in the first place) I had at least half an hour wait, and the concierge told me this was a slow time. (I had groceries in the car and couldn't stay so I will return another day with a book to read!)
The Comcast store has gotten very upscale and fancy - note "concierge" - but it seems to me it's just window dressing.
I should say, the people I got on the telephone at Comcast before I went to the store were very helpful and gracious, and I was lucky and didn't have to wait very long at all.
But I have had Comcast for many years now, in the past for both cable and internet, and have found them to create time-consuming headaches with their "service" and they're always increasing the costs.
I am so happy to now be Comcast free! read more
