Once the proposal was approved, communication was good about calendaring and as the install date drew nearer they had all the equipment and hardware delivered to the house. No delays on account of supply chain issues, yay! Jorge and the installation team showed up when they said they would. They were pleasant to have around and communicated very well. Not only did they fearlessly crawl around in my basement and crawl space, they took the time to try and run the ducting in the cleanest way that would take up the fewest cubic feet of our precious's storage. Duct runs in the tight attic space are installed with the highest level of care and craftsmanship. They were extremely diligent about managing dust and mess; the only sign that they had been in the house were the new vents in the ceiling. As an architect, I have the opportunity to work with a lot of different contractors. I remembered that Alex had come out during Covid & fixed our furnace, just to get it running...so I reached out to him. SMB came out & gave me an estimate for half the price of the other companies...I thought it was to good to be true, so when I told the other companies the price, they immediately said they'd match the quote. So of course I went with SMB, because they are professional & not trying to take advantage of our situation (no furnace & 57 degrees in our house). They walked me through the options, replace the furnace or get a heat pump...new to me thing, but ultimately we went with the suggested heat pump. Just got our first PG&E bill & it went down by $200! Told me he'd have his technician come out and take a look. Waited another week. Finally, they fixed it. However, every time it turned on, there was a loud boom that woke everyone in the house up. I called him again. Said he was busy. After another week of sleepless nights, I called a HVAC maintenance company who came out and installed a slow start and made some adjustments to the placement of the unit. He had also put in the wrong size fuse in which they proved to me with photos. No, I would not recommend either for installation or for service.
