We are so happy that DJ Hieu was available for our September 2024 wedding! BOOKING We were looking for a English and Vietnamese speaking DJ and received multiple referrals from our vendors to contact Anh Hieu. He responded right away to our email, provided a detailed document with his packages and pricing, and scheduled an introduction call to walk through our needs and budget. We got married at Silver Creek Valley Country Club and he has past experience working there for multiple weddings. We got along with him really well and decided to book him as our DJ/MC and included sound/lighting/photobooth/sparklers. PLANNING We had a 1 hour planning call 1 week before our wedding to walk through our timeline, script, important moments, music requests, lighting and music cues, and overall logistics to prepare on-site. Call me insane, but I booked my DJ before I booked my wedding venue. I read great reviews on Yelp about Hieu and was very interested in his services because he is bilingual. He did not disappoint! He used to be a Vietnamese radio host so he is quite fluent in Vietnamese. In addition to the DJ/music services, he offers lighting and the mirror photo booth services as well. The mirror photo booth is of the latest technology. It's a mirror you look into and take selfies with a touch-screen that allows you to draw/sign/stick emojis on your photos. It's also interactive. It tells you to "scream" or do specific facial expressions. For lighting, he offers gobo lights, custom monogram lights, uplighting, spotlights, etc. He also offers projector/karaoke equipment. What I liked about his DJ service is that he has a website you login to to choose your top 100 songs you must have, maybe have (if there's time), and for sure do not want to have. The selection's vast (I was surprised Cashmere Cat was already on the list options) and you can input custom songs if you want something that's not on that list. He does a one hour phone consultation with you when you decide to book. You pay $500 deposit up front and pay the rest on the date of your wedding. He was familiar with the venue I chose (SCVCC) and had been there before so it was nice to know that he knew exactly where everything should be set up and how the room lighting was. I debated about going with a different venue before (Willow Heights Mansion) but that wedding didn't allow outside DJs and that was a major drawback for me. Regardless of if you need Vietnamese language services, you should consider Xgeneration! His English is perfect too. He is not a specifically "Vietnamese wedding" DJ. I couldn't be happier with Hieu. He picked up on details of my husband's vows and incorporated it into the reception. He kept us on track even after we were pushed off schedule. He made sure to not miss anything in our schedule and he was able to take guest's requests kindly. His Vietnamese is eloquent and professional and his English is also exceptional. My family was so impressed by him and many of my friends have tried to book him for their own wedding! It was so nice to feel at ease knowing that Hieu was m/c for my wedding. He incorporated small bits into his speech about my husband's Russian heritage and he had a sense of humor and gave shout outs to certain guests. He'll hook you up with some great up-lighting for your venue, monograms, fog machines... you name it, he can provide it. He was also our DJ and emcee (Vietnamese and English) for the night. He's like the equivalent of a Vietnamese Ryan Seacrest. He has that voice of a primetime TV/Radio host. He's there, but he's in the background and not stealing the show from the wedding party (but he probably could). He pours his heart into what he does and it shows. There's nothing this man cannot do. We found Hieu through my wife's brother and he did not disappoint. Even before the actual wedding, he gave us numerous ideas on what he thinks would look nice during the reception and even showed us some of his previous work at our venue. We pretty much just went with his best judgement and wow, he sure know how to light a place up. Everyone loved our simple, yet beautiful set up. We met with him on a couple of occasions prior to the wedding, and went over the timelines that we developed with our DOC. You will instantly know that he's been doing this for awhile as he gave us input for what he thinks will flow nicely during the reception. We picked our song list for entrance songs, 1st dance, father daughter dance, and he listened to them and told us where he would make the fade outs so as to let us know when to expect the song to end so that we could get some choreography going. He is constantly thinking about how to keep things flowing. Without asking, he even explained the meaning behind the song for the father-daughter dance for those non-Vietnamese speakers. It's those little things that sets him apart from the rest. We can't thank Hieu enough for all that he did for our reception and some of the pre-planning. The #1 entertainment group for your wedding, hands down. My wedding was and will be crazier than yours. Trust me. PG&E shut down the power to our venue on the morning of our wedding. X-Generation was there EVERY STEP of the way. Let me tell you our story and you can decide afterward. 7:30 AM, PG&E shut the power down to half of the NorCal Bay area. I'm in shock. I call Hieu and he tells me his power is out at his house. I'm still in shock. My fiance is panicking, but I'm still in shock. I just remember telling Hieu the night before, "let's roll the dice, PG&E isn't going to shut it off." LOL! So imagine this day...everything we have planned up to this point is basically moot and we just had to wing it. X-Generation MADE IT HAPPEN. Without Hieu and his team organizing, it would've been a disaster. Just to call this out specifically, Hieu and his team even bought a wireless battery operated BOSE outdoor speaker the day before and had it Amazon Prime'd next day to accommodate us in case the power was out. BOSE speakers aren't cheap! So when that nasty PG&E decided to restore our power, Hieu quickly spoke with our coordinator and we were able to move our wedding back indoors when it got dark. Hieu was able to move his outdoor audio setup indoors while we did a sparkler exit so that when people turned to go back inside the venue, they were greeted indoors to a huge party room (we got married at Silver Creek Valley CC). Not only was the wedding not cur short, but we also ended up getting a 1/2 outdoor 1/2 indoor wedding with beautiful California sunset scenery. This does not happen and Hieu and his team set it all p so seamlessly that people thought our wedding was planned that way. Nobody knew about the drama from the morning with the power. All of this was just the setup for the audio! Let me mention we also got the photo booth package, additional lighting, MC/DJ, smoke, and unofficial coordinator! We weren't able to do all the things we wanted to do because of the power situation but it all worked out. Hieu was also like our support and backbone. When things started to look bad, he was there and advised us. He has a lot of experience and knew exactly what to do. My wife is also Vietnamese and so he was able to translate English into Vietnamese and it was really helpful because we had a lot of elders visiting from Vietnam. Believe it or not Hieu was the first vendor I had booked and made sure of securing before any other vendors once my husband and I had figured out our date. Thanks to Yelp, I had found an Hieu who not only speaks fluent English but also in Vietnamese. This was so important to me as I am the last one in the family to not only get married but the only one to step outside of the whole "traditional Vietnamese wedding" and had it at The Club in Ruby Hill. I wanted to have both side of the family understand what was going on during our ceremony and reception as well and let me tell you Hieu knocked it out the ball park. We had to postpone our wedding three times due to COVID restrictions, but Hieu has been along side with us since the very beginning. I don't think I can put into words how amazing Hieu was at our wedding and all the planning before the wedding. Hieu was the perfect MC and DJ for my wedding. He speaks fluent Vietnamese and fluent English. He is able to MC and entertain in both languages. He was able to translate Vietnamese speeches to English for our non-Vietnamese guests. Not only can he speak both languages, he is able to make jokes and entertain in Vietnamese, which is really difficult to find. Trust me, I looked up SEVERAL DJs and MCs. Before the wedding, we met with Hieu twice in person to go over logistics. He was able to convince us to have him handle our up lights at the reception as well as hire him as our DJ and MC. The up lights are wireless (no one tripping through the night, great with drunk guests), and he has full control of the lights all night. Hieu is very professional in demeanor and very easy to talk to. The second meeting with Hieu, we went through the timeline of the reception. Having done this several times before, Hieu knew all the questions to ask and knew everything we needed to do. Hieu has a lot of experience with Vietnamese wedding receptions, and so he understands everything that comes with it. During the reception, everything went very smoothly, and I would like to thank Hieu for this. Not only did everything go smoothly, the place looked gorgeous with his uplights. Because he can change the lights on the spot, I was able to tell him to change the colors to what I preferred. Our colors were teal and pink. Being a perfectionist, I am really particular with the teal I wanted. I also wanted to make sure certain areas were highlighted with a different color uplight. All this was done seamlessly with Hieu. As for music and entertainment, Hieu did a great job. I am more into the alternative scene for music, and I wanted to make sure that the music before dancing were my type of music. Hieu did a great job at playing all of my favorites, but also knowing when to switch it to a Top 40 song for the crowd. He had no issue playing my All Time Low, Sleeping With Sirens, or Pierce The Veil along with many other bands. I am eternally grateful for this. For the dancing portion, Hieu did an amazing job keeping the music upbeat and having a couple of slow songs in there to give people a break. It was such a great dance party, and my husband and I had a lot of fun. All of our friends and family loved the DJ. For the last song of the night, Hieu remixed one of my favorite songs by All Time Low to a more dancing song. He did this without me having to ask for it. He figured out to do based on our interactions and the requests I've made previously. I was ecstatic when it came on, and it meant the world to me. It was the perfect way to end the night. I am very happy that I went with Hieu! Being more Americanized than Vietnamese, I wanted a wedding that blended both cultures well. The music was important because my family LOVES to dance and the DJ had to be Vietnamese since 90 percent of the guests barely spoke English. He works with you up until the day of your wedding. Very professional, very accommodating, speaks English and Vietnamese fluently, doesn't talk too much. He has an electronic system that lets you pick out all the songs you want to play at your wedding. You have almost complete control of the playlist and what happens. At first I was thinking of separating the groups of people with a DJ in the ceremony room and a live band in the main room because I was so scared that there would be this divide. Play too much young people music, the old people leave and vice versa. My husband is Vietnamese American and I'm not, so it was important to us to have a DJ who spoke both English and Vietnamese fluently. Even with a few interactions in-between booking and the actual wedding date- I put all my trust into Hieu because I knew he was the best out there and saying he delivered was an understatement! Hieu was wonderful!! We booked him well in advance (I think a year and a half prior) because he really is that popular. Our wedding party had a good mix of young adults and older folk, and half spoke only Vietnamese. Hieu was so smooth, charismatic, and professional. He knew how to cater not only to the bride and groom, but also to the crowd. Everyone loved his style, and he has such a smooth voice. He kept the entire party entertained and played a diverse set of music. He also handles hiccups with ease. Our guests couldn't stop raving about him. Our only regret was not having him sing! We completely forgot to request a few songs, but that guy has skills. As if that wasn't enough, Hieu does more than just DJ/MC. His lighting is AMAZING. The best in the business. Hieu's equipment is all wireless, meaning you're not getting any ugly cables running around the floor of your venue. He controls everything from his iPad or laptop. And just from our initial meeting we could sense the passion he has for his work. Lighting isn't something most brides and grooms think about, but it completely transforms a venue. This 5 star review is a month overdue. I met Hugh, the MC/DJ/owner 2 years ago at a friend's wedding. And on that day I had a wish that if I've ever got married one day, I would definitely book this MC like...for sure!! Well, guess what, I caught the bouquet that night and a year later my wish came true Besides MC/DJ, we also booked his Lighting and unique Mirror Photobooth services as well. Very Late Post!! But I feel like I should still write it. We feel we were very fortunate to have booked Hieu for our Wedding on Nov. 29 2014. I only had to worry about Music and Alcohol, while my wife managed all the other vendors. I procrastinated and waited till mid September to begin looking for a DJ for the wedding. It didn't become apparent how lucky I was to book Hieu until we met and he showed us his calendar which was solidly booked all the way through 2015 and early 2016. I lucked out and our date was previously booked but was canceled when I contacted him. We were only originally going to book Hieu for DJ services, but after speaking with him we were sold on obtaining the whole package (DJ, MC, Lighting). We cancelled our previously booked MC and took out the event lighting from the decorator contract, to go with Hieu. Our Parents had heard of Hieu and when we told them we were trying to book him and cancel the our previously booked MC, they were more than okay with it, they were happy we were able to book him. They had heard of Hieu from his time working on Vietnamese Radio. His English and Vietnamese was very good. The setup leading up to the wedding day was easy too. We worked with him to create our timeline and we met several times to ensure it went smoothly, or as smoothly as any planned event can go. He provided music for our ceremony at the ranch golf club (extra $ since its a second location), and it was raining hard in the morning. We had a huge downpour around 5-7AM, and it was light showers from then on, and I just remember our guests complaining that we were seating them out in the rain which was a nightmare. As I was standing there with the golf club coordinator, Hieu was signaling me to go for it and keep it in the rain, and so we did. As we all made the guests get in their seats, the rain stopped, and the sun came out. During the ceremony, it almost had a ray of light poke through the clouds. His event lighting (uplighting, ceiling GOGOs,) was truly amazing. We were wowed by it as it could. The lighting would be coordinated with the agenda and music, and dim as necessary or be bright for speeches. I would highly recommend this feature. It created an ambiance that regular single color lights can't give. All in all, it was pleasant to work with him and he did a fantastic job!!! read more

He was the best bilingual MC out there servicing the Bay Area. Not only his English was on par, but his Vietnamese was as well. His lighting services exceeded our expectations for our wedding. His lighting equipment is nothing but the best and really made our wedding really pop! All his lighting equipment is also wireless and can be controlled with one receiver on the fly. I don't think anyone has any kind of lighting services that he provides. Overall, we are exceptionally happy with our wedding and Hieu definitely exceeded our expectations. If we can do it again, we would definitely book Hieu all over again.
