Rothschild-Pound House Inn - Happy Couple after Wedding at the inn

    Rothschild-Pound House Inn

Good luck getting anyone to answer the phone. I've left…read morenumerous voicemails and no call back. I'm trying to offer the Inn a beautiful antique but no one answers the phone. I've heard rumors that the Inn is for sale. I'm about to inherit a good amount of $$$ and might want to buy it. I was in the hotel business for seventeen years and I know what it takes to make guests feel comfortable and welcome.

I travel extensively and I had planned a trip to Columbus with my wife for a special occasion. We much prefer to stay at historic B&Bs for getaways like this, and the Rothschild-Pound House looked like a great choice. Most hotels were booked in town (which maybe should have been a clue as to how there was an available room here). On July 1st, I made a reservation for the 12th at which point my credit card was promptly charged the full amount. The day before I was to arrive, I received a phone message at 6:30am stating that they were having the floors redone and would be cancelling my reservation. I'm not sure how they didn't realize they'd be having the floors done that day until 24 hours beforehand and nowhere on their website or in any correspondence is there a mention of renovations. Their own policy, if I had tried to cancel my reservation, is "Cancelation must be made 14 days in advance of the check-in date. If canceled after that, a 50% credit will be offered for a future stay." I returned the call to see how they would offer to make this right on such short notice and it went straight to voicemail. 6 hours later, I received a call-back from Mamie Pound. Her advice was for me to book at another hotel in Columbus and offered to give me the phone number of the Columbus Marriot. Less than helpful, to say the least. Not even an offer of a 50% credit off of a future stay as per their own policy (not that I would ever actually consider staying here in the future). When I stated the facts back to her, she became very defensive and accused me of arguing with her. (You can see all of the other reviews on-line regarding the owner's defensiveness.) I was in the middle of asking another question when she simply hung up on me. Extremely unprofessional, rude, and no way to build customer goodwill. As of this writing, my credit card still has not been refunded. My advice, if you are traveling to Columbus, is to book your stay elsewhere than at the Rothschild-Pound House. I was forced to.

We didn't make it there on our first day, but we opted to stop by on the Sunday morning before we drove home. A 'botanical garden' can span a wide spectrum of things, some more interesting than others. Unless you are very plant-centric, there is probably an upper threshold of interest that any botanical garden can generate. I'm not saying that critically; think of it in the context of 'would you rather visit a museum or a garden?'. Depending on your answer, you may be more or less interested in your average botanical garden... This one is located 5 - 6 miles north of downtown. There appeared to be ample parking, plus an overflow lot that was not in use when we visited. They have some central gardens (sort of zen-lite) and a walking trail through the woods. This intersects with a camellia trail, which was nice. It also intersects with a 'wetlands' trail, which (as the name suggests) appeared mostly soggy. There is a sort of farmhouse near the parking lot which belonged to the original landowners who donated it to the community. If you are just looking for a nice 30-minute diversion of walking among plants, this is fine. It was a nice walk. It is also free. I'm not sure I'd need to return here, but I'm glad we stopped in.

    Columbus Marriott - Bathroom

Is it convenient? Yes. Is the staff friendly and accommodating? Yes, mostly. Is it clean? lol NO…read more Will you sleep well? Probably not. We were here for a conference. The location is great--extremely walkable to a lot of what Columbus has to offer. One of those things is a train. It will come through at different times of the day and night. Because it trolleys through the town on top of the street, they are blasting their horn for ~15 mins at a time to warn pedestrians and vehicles. I was awoken many times throughout the stay as it makes its way down the street, directly in front of the hotel. It'll be 10, 11, 12, 2, 4 AM. It doesn't matter. It feels like the train is right inside your room. The volume is so extreme, I could actually feel vibrations on the 4th floor. My room had a lot of water damage in the bathroom. The floors were spongy, buckled, and sticky. The shower surfaces were also covered in gooey residue. The biggest offender of cleanliness was the bed. One of the beds had makeup/dirt on the corner of the sheet closest to where your face would be. I let front desk know about all of the messes of the room and they sent house cleaning in the morning. They cleaned the bathroom, but instead of replacing the sheets or bedding, they just remade the bed. You could tell it was the exact same sheet because it was the same brown stains and same corner of the bed. It really makes you wonder what they are actually cleaning between guests. Another gripe is the door lock situation. When you open the door, there is a 50% chance that your deadbolt lock will activate. This means you're held hostage from leaving your room until you get it to go back inside the door. I called the front desk to troubleshoot and ask for maintenance. They eventually sent maintenance to confirm this was happening, but the front desk insisted this was a feature not a bug. It is extremely inconvenient if you're trying to leave your room quickly. This issue also caused a hand injury for one of my colleagues as most of us in our group (we had 7 reservations) had this issue with the doors. Forgot to mention, a smoke alarm went off for almost 45 mins inside another guests' room on the floor. The poor guy had literally just checked in and was not smoking. Not a great stay. Most of the staff was super friendly and accommodating. There is an M lounge and a connected Houlihan's. The bartenders and staff there are excellent.

I understand that the lock upgrade happened following my stay, but it doesn't help my situation. Despite bringing this to the hotel's attention, the resolution offered, a mere 10,000 points does not even come close to addressing the inconvenience, frustration, and disruption I endured. I spent two nights at your hotel, paying over $400, only to receive what amounts to less than a third of a night's stay in compensation. This response is not just inadequate; it is insulting. Given the circumstances, I expected Marriott to take customer concerns seriously and provide a resolution that reflects the gravity of the issue. Instead, I was met with a dismissive attempt to pacify me with minimal effort. As a result of this experience, I will make it a point to never stay at a Marriott property again. Furthermore, I will ensure that my experience is well-documented and shared across social media platforms so that others are aware of the lack of care and accountability demonstrated by Marriott. I strongly urge Marriott to reconsider how it handles customer safety concerns and service failures. I do not feel the results are sufficient and even after speaking with a supervisor today they say they feel I was taken care of by being given the second room. Is this a place you would want to stay?
