Is it convenient? Yes. Is the staff friendly and accommodating? Yes, mostly. Is it clean? lol NO. Will you sleep well? Probably not. We were here for a conference. The location is great--extremely walkable to a lot of what Columbus has to offer. One of those things is a train. It will come through at different times of the day and night. Because it trolleys through the town on top of the street, they are blasting their horn for ~15 mins at a time to warn pedestrians and vehicles. I was awoken many times throughout the stay as it makes its way down the street, directly in front of the hotel. It'll be 10, 11, 12, 2, 4 AM. It doesn't matter. It feels like the train is right inside your room. The volume is so extreme, I could actually feel vibrations on the 4th floor. My room had a lot of water damage in the bathroom. The floors were spongy, buckled, and sticky. The shower surfaces were also covered in gooey residue. The biggest offender of cleanliness was the bed. One of the beds had makeup/dirt on the corner of the sheet closest to where your face would be. I let front desk know about all of the messes of the room and they sent house cleaning in the morning. They cleaned the bathroom, but instead of replacing the sheets or bedding, they just remade the bed. You could tell it was the exact same sheet because it was the same brown stains and same corner of the bed. It really makes you wonder what they are actually cleaning between guests. Another gripe is the door lock situation. When you open the door, there is a 50% chance that your deadbolt lock will activate. This means you're held hostage from leaving your room until you get it to go back inside the door. I called the front desk to troubleshoot and ask for maintenance. They eventually sent maintenance to confirm this was happening, but the front desk insisted this was a feature not a bug. It is extremely inconvenient if you're trying to leave your room quickly. This issue also caused a hand injury for one of my colleagues as most of us in our group (we had 7 reservations) had this issue with the doors. Forgot to mention, a smoke alarm went off for almost 45 mins inside another guests' room on the floor. The poor guy had literally just checked in and was not smoking. Not a great stay. Most of the staff was super friendly and accommodating. There is an M lounge and a connected Houlihan's. The bartenders and staff there are excellent. read more

During my stay for a teacher conference, I encountered a serious issue of being locked both inside and outside of my room -unacceptable situation that posed not only an extreme inconvenience but also a potential safety hazard. I understand that the lock upgrade happened following my stay, but it doesn't help my situation. Despite bringing this to the hotel's attention, the resolution offered, a mere 10,000 points does not even come close to addressing the inconvenience, frustration, and disruption I endured. I spent two nights at your hotel, paying over $400, only to receive what amounts to less than a third of a night's stay in compensation. This response is not just inadequate; it is insulting. Given the circumstances, I expected Marriott to take customer concerns seriously and provide a resolution that reflects the gravity of the issue. Instead, I was met with a dismissive attempt to pacify me with minimal effort. As a result of this experience, I will make it a point to never stay at a Marriott property again. Furthermore, I will ensure that my experience is well-documented and shared across social media platforms so that others are aware of the lack of care and accountability demonstrated by Marriott. I strongly urge Marriott to reconsider how it handles customer safety concerns and service failures. I do not feel the results are sufficient and even after speaking with a supervisor today they say they feel I was taken care of by being given the second room. We stayed only one night but it was a great stay. We had the Mill suite king. The room is big enough for two, well appointed with a lot of thought put into maximizing the space. LOVED the exposed brick look and the sleek bathroom. If you have business in Columbus, this is an ideal stay. One drawback. We were on the first floor, the Saturday night party music from the dillingham directly across the street is less than ideal when you are a light sleeper. Definitely found the place to stay in the future the next time we are in town. read more

One star is too good for this place. We had NO maid service for most of our 4 night stay - begged and tipped for fresh towels and soap with a tip - got that one day but nothing else. Unmaid beds overflowing trash and no towels or soap that we needed. Called the night before we checked out and the excuse was thar the hotel was busy. I will NEVER stay here again with so many other choices and Marriott should be ashamed to out their name in this hotel. M Club is neat - I only wish there was like a print out if itinerary so I know what is going on when - first two visits it was like I had just missed something because there were plates & silverware out, but nothing else (like snacks). Maybe we walked in just at the wrong time, because there was only beer and juices at 11pm Breakfast buffet is exactly as expected - not amazingly unique, but a fair spread of offerings: eggs, pastries, cereals, etc... This is a beautiful property. It's been mostly renovated and they've kept some of the brick of the old building. It doesn't look at all like a normal Courtyard Marriott. The staff was very nice. Some of the things worth mentioning. 1. The room was clean, renovated and comfortable. However, the walls are thin and we could hear people in other rooms. There is a barn door style bathroom door that looks great but you can hear anything anyone is doing in the bathroom. 2. The hotel is attached to a Houlihan's restaurant which is very convenient. Also, walking distance to downtown, the riverwalk and the convention center. 3. The train will come through town sometime between midnight and 4am and blast the horn all the way through. No avoiding that. 4. The shower is a rain shower which is quite pleasant and they have large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and soap on the wall in the shower. This is quite convenient and saves waste and plastic. 5. There was a nice gentleman that greeted us as we walked in the lobby and asked if we would like a bottle of water. That was a nice touch. BED BUGS!!!! I stayed there 3 nights and got 5 bed bugs bites. After confirming they were bed bug bites with a doctor, I called the hotel to have them confirm. I have called 3 times and explained the situation to be told they would be calling me back, without any call backs. Next step is to call the county health department and possibly a lawyer. They had an opportunity to handle this issue, but failed. I will never be staying there again. read more

I don't stay in luxury hotels that often so I don't know how helpful this is but everything was clean and the bed was comfortable and I felt like I was getting my money's worth. I enjoyed swimming in the pool, the body wash provided was a really nice scent, and the ultra modern room decor was a nice change from the tired resort scenery I'm used to in my home state. There was also a comfortable lobby where I hung out with a friend one of the nights of my stay. I was there for a Columbus State University Schwob School of Music event and found the location SUPER convenient. You are basically right across the street, kitty-corner. If you're here for something there or in the attached theater, it makes a lot of sense to stay here. BTW the King room had a big sofa in it if anyone finds that helpful or useful. read more

My friend and I drove in on Sat 11/20/21 for the Monica, Vedo, Tank, Lyfe concert over at the convention center and we knew we didn't wanna drige back that night (the concert ended at MN) so I'm glad she had booked a room. The room was clean and spacious for 2 ppl, no more than that though. Room has a dorm like fridge that is very loud for it to be so small. Even with all the lights on the room looked and felt dark even with the shades open. We stayed in room 326 which doesn't have the best view out the window, but anyhow it was only a one night stay. They have shampoo, conditioner and bodywash already in place in the shower so that was helpful and they smelled good, so that was helpful. Good location downtown and convenient to eateries, like a 5 min drive to tje convention center. The beds was comfy amd cozy and I slept very good. I would stay here again read more

I recently stayed here as a point redemption stay and I have Marriott titanium status. I have been to a lot of high end Marriott properties, but have never encountered such unjustifiable arrogance as I encountered here. I'll start by saying that the property is beautiful and the Columbus area is a great place to visit. The concierge lounge was fantastic as well as the attendants within. The issue lies with the front desk personnel and policies at this hotel. As I said, I have stayed at many Marriott properties, including the Ritz Carlton, which are considered full service hotels (I.e. turn down service, valet parking, etc). However, this was the first property at which I was not allowed to use or even load my own luggage cart, but was required to either hand carry all of my belongings or allow a bellhop to load all of our bags onto the cart and escort us to our room and unload them (and supposedly the opposite at the end of the stay)... I am fully capable of loading and transporting my own luggage to my room and back to my car. During a pandemic, I am not comfortable having a stranger touch all of my belongings repeatedly as part of this process. Additionally, upon departure, I have no interest in having someone come assist me in my room as I'm getting ready in the morning or waiting for someone to be available and delaying my day. This policy is honestly rude and inconvenient. The OPTION to use a bellhop is great, but nobody should be forced. We enjoyed everything else about our stay, except for this ridiculous rule and the attitude I got about it from all of the front desk personnel and the bellhops themselves. I was repeatedly told it is because this is a "full service hotel" - but there is no turn down service and nobody even valet parked my car? I don't consider this to be full service, just a weird invasive policy to try to get tips from customers. We decided to just make several trips to hand carry everything to the car when we left. P.s. all the plates in the restaurant at the breakfast buffet were dirty... it was a fine breakfast due to the fact it was free for me with my status, but I would not recommend paying for it. Very nice Marriott and a great location. The river is only a five minute walk away and the hotel is right next the Main Street, which offers numerous restaurant options. The only downside is the train that passes the hotel down Main Street at 2 in the morning. Literally only 200 yards away. There is a reason that earplugs are provided in the hotel room. read more

My husband & I stayed here while visiting my mother in law nearby. We were warmly greeted by Jenna who worked at the guest services desk. She blessed us with the military discount since my husband was former Air Force. She also gave us breakfast coupons for a nearby cafe since the hotel restaurant was undergoing construction. She was the sweetest! We also want to thank Booking.com for not charging us to cancel our previous reservation for a Marriott farther away. We made that reservation prior to our trip not realizing the farther distance to my mother in law. This made it so easy for us to reserve a room at this location without an additional fee. We went as a family for a weekend getaway. There is no heating/AC in hallways or elevator so it was stifling until we got into the room. Room was fine, no complaints. We checked out right around noon Sunday. We got about 20 mins away when I discovered my wedding rings weren't on (I had taken them off while applying lotion and then got busy packing and left on the bathroom counter). I immediately called the hotel and someone in housekeeping said she would go to the room and call me right back. Never called back. I called the hotel after waiting 30 mins and the front desk associate said she would go right up there and look and call me back. I waited and waited- she never called back. So we returned to the hotel- when I approached the desk and explained to the 3 women what happened, one said "oh I took your call. I got busy and forgot. Sorry". I explained this was $8000 of jewelry and wanted to talk to housekeeping and she said they had left for the day. I asked for a manager, but there was not one there so they gave me a business card for her and said to call the next day. I let them know I was filing a police report while there. Filed a lost jewelry police report online (it was a Sunday and police station was closed). I knew exactly where those rings were and that they were taken by housekeeping. Called the next morning and spoke with Cassandra (front desk manager) who apologized and said she was sending it to HR and they would send me an incident report call me right away to investigate. No call. Called Cassandra 2 days later and she said she would send HR another email. I called HR at the hotel directly and it always went to "this voicemail box is full and can't accept any messages". I called HR almost every day for a month with the same recording. City of Columbus police sent me a case number, but they never followed up beyond thar with no hotel report. I had to file a claim with my insurance, but I desperately wanted my rings back. The hotel staff were absolutely horrible in this situation- I'm quite convinced they knew who took it and covered for them. I will NEVER stay at this hotel again and it has tainted my outlook on the brand if this is how they train their employees to run their various locations. I stayed here for my first time while working an event across the street at the trade center. I'm a big fan of Columbus, Georgia. I love that it is near a huge military base, and I think it has an adorable and charming personality. The Marriott is the perfect location because it's right in the middle of downtown Columbus. It is an older building so it doesn't look like your uniform Marriott. When I arrived, I was so warmly welcomed by the entire staff it made me think I was really going to enjoy my stay there. Herman and the valet staff were so kind to me. The parking is free and conveniently located in front and back of the hotel. I was upgraded to a corner king room on the fourth floor. My room was nice and big and spacious. I couldn't complain about anything, at first. I was checked in by Krystal and she explained to me the amenities, the concierge lounge hours and restaurant hours. I also got a few coupons to Houlihan's which is their hotel restaurant for when the concierge lounge was closed. There are only two elevators so I mostly took the stairs. For only having two elevators, it didn't take too long but the hotel was definitely at capacity due to the festival. There is a coffee shop/café as well as the restaurant. There is a 24 hour Fitness Center on site but I wouldn't get too excited about it, because it is tiny and has no air-conditioning. Every time I worked out there my face was beat red. It was so hot in there. There's also an outdoor pool, not sure if it's heated or not. Also pretty small and underwhelming. Everyone who works at the Marriott is completely lovely. You couldn't walk by one person who worked there without them saying "hello," smiling, and asking how you are doing. Southern hospitality at its finest. I had dinner at Houlihan's and Damaris was my server. She was so kind and amazing! I had salmon and it was pretty delicious. I went back for breakfast on Saturday morning with the breakfast buffet that I had a coupon for. It was pretty gross and I wouldn't recommend it. It also took a while for a server to get over to me, so that experience at Houlihan's was not as good. The concierge lounge had Talika and Joyce two wonderful women who are so gracious and so happy to help you when you arrive. The food is OK, but I really mostly went up there for water and coffee. The thing that irritated me the most about my stay is my shower situation. I had hot water my first day there so I knew the shower, at one point worked. My last three days there I took cold showers. It was so freezing I literally had to blow dry my body when I got out. Have you guys ever had to blow dry your body before? Spoiler alert: it's not fun. I used the Marriott mobile chat to tell them about my issue. I made myself busy and outside of my room so that somebody could fix it. I was told it was fixed. Well, the problem never got fixed. The next day I took another cold shower. I wasn't able to wash my hair the entire time I was there. Same thing happened the second day after they told me again that it was fixed. I was already pretty cold, and there is nothing worse than looking forward to a hot shower and getting a cold one. Mrs. Oliver spoke to me and apologized and offered to move me to a king suite. She was really sweet, but at that point it was my last day there and I was working and I really didn't have time or energy to move. They did offer a solution and points but at that point I was just kind of ready to leave. Overall, this hotel has great potential and really kind people working there. The hospitality is definitely off the charts. The woman at the gristmill coffee shop was rude but otherwise, everyone was a doll. The hotel itself, has issues based on how old it is. I will likely return here next year because of the convenience of being so close to the trade center. Hopefully they will have resolved some of their issues. Timothy checked me out and he was lovely, just like everyone who works there. However, I was up early for a flight and wanted a coffee for my hour and a half drive to the airport. I was told Houlihan's opened at 6 am for breakfast, so I planned accordingly. When I went to get my coffee to-go after 6 am, the doors were locked. I brought my stuff out to the car and Timothy talked to the restaurant and got me my coffee. Thank you, Timothy! The restaurant seemed to be understaffed, one waitress for at least 12 active tables, but what made her job harder was the quality of food. An "All American" breakfast consisted of two small eggs and horrible frozen sausage links that had been cooked several days prior, served cold. The replacement sausages were reheated frozen hockey pucks that tasted of something unpleasant. Even after requesting a side of toast to scrape my tongue with, I was left unsatisfied. I had to request butter for the toast. Extra cream for the coffee etc. Not an ideal situation when the server is already dealing with the same set of scenarios at 11 other tables. read more

So... the Holiday Inn was booked and I went with whatever was closest to the office I was working in for the week. Enter Marriott. I'm not typically a fan and the reinforcement started as soon as I walked to my room. The elevators were down, and I was still charged full price. I had to walk through several dingy hallways with all the smells and poor signage. Once the elevator was up, it was just the one. One was still down, and I was still being charged full price. So few people were wearing masks that I ended up taking the service elevator to not have to wade through the viral load everyone was sharing, so knowing where the service elevator was came in handy. The carpet in the room is secured by metal that is semi-pointy and I was spared by not getting a full start and ripping my foot open on it. The shower gel was empty. Marriott doesn't have free movie channels like Holiday Inn does. B In the morning I went to grab something real quick and was told I would have to sit down to be served. I don't have that kind of time once before the day begins, so I had to go out and find something to eat in a literal food desert. I saw people walking by employees sans masks and nothing was said. The entrance to the hotel isn't clearly marked, but when you get past that, the Do Not Enter" sign at the exit was clearly marked. But hey, at least the room was clean. I travel for work now and this hotel is close enough to walk to the office I'll be going to, but this place won't see my business again and I'll warn my co-workers about staying here. I'll find a motel somewhere if the Holiday Inn is booked so at least I know I'm getting what I'm paying for. read more

Keep in mind that a three star rating isn't bad. I do like this Marriot. It's convenient to my goings-on in Columbus (which usually include heading over to the Iron Works Convention Center. It's walking distance to a variety of restaurants (all of which seem to close on Monday). And the lobby itself is very nice. PLUS, I'm a great big fan of the free parking and the free wifi. Stepping into the bathroom and turning on the lights is like stepping into a coronal streamer from our sun. It is so bright, you can get a tan before even stepping into the bathroom. I had to unscrew three out of four of the b-10 bulbs from their sconces to keep things manageable. Sheesh. A pet peeve: I have a really bad allergy to down feathers. Putting polyester pillows in a room that used to have down pillows in it DOES NOT HELP. Down is the herpes of hotel linen service. Once down is in the room, it's always in the room. Overall, the room was clean and housekeeping is diligent. Hotel staff on the whole was very helpful, prompt, and full of good suggestions on places to go when we were discovering everything closed on Monday. read more

We booked a room on a Saturday, hoping for something old school and quaint. We should have gone to a Hotel 6. We would at least get what we paid for. THEIR ROOMS ARE DIRECTLY ABOVE THEIR BALLROOMS so you get to hear other people's crappy music and conversations all night. Are they aware of this problem? Yes, because they even supply ear plugs (that don't actually help). Do they warn you of this when they give you the key? Of course not. I'm writing this review absolutely exhausted but wide awake because I just paid almost $200 to sit on top of speakers. Additionally, the wallpaper looks like it was applied by a 5 year old. I was recently charged for 3 nights when i only stayed for two and the company is refusing to refund my money until they complete an investigation. Not to mention when I arrived they had no record of my reservation and I had to show my email confirmation just to get a room that night. Steer Clear. This Marriott has a great location and a beautiful building, but maybe stay somewhere else and just walk through it if you want to see the historic restoration. The management and booking here are about as bad as any hotel could be. We booked a corner room in the historic building, but were given a regular room in the new building, which means we were shorted two upgrades which we had already paid for. We called the front desk and they did move us to the old building, but they did not give us any kind of refunds for the corner fee. They argued with us about the reservation despite us having the email. So we're out money with no recourse; it's dishonest. Then we also requested feather free room because I am allergic to down, but the staff here didn't have that ready (in either room they offered us). They claimed that housekeeping was gone for the night and they couldn't do anything. So I get to be sick in the room despite making a reservation in advance with a common request and calling it in around 8pm. It's not like I'm calling in at midnight for something unusual. This is a common request (Marriott has a check box for it when you book online). Hotel management is useless and will do nothing to improve your stay. Stay somewhere else and hope this place trains/changes staff as a result. read more

I booked a 4 night stay here recently while visiting my boyfriend at Fort Benning. I originally had a reservation at a different hotel and was not pleased with the conditions or location and luckily I found the Columbus Marriott! Check-in was simple and easy. I had just driven over 10 hours from Virginia and was exhausted. I ordered room service from the attached restaurant and it was delivered quickly in the time frame they stated. I was not impressed with my meal. I ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything tasted like a truck of salt fell on, especially the potatoes, but I was extremely hungry and ate what I could. The room was nice and spacious, the staff were always great and prompt with any requests, and the bed is super comfy. The walls are a little thin. I could hear a group of guys in the room next to me pretty clearly at certain points. The location is exceptional. I went for a run a couple of nights and it's just a few blocks to the river walk and many restaurants. If I'm back in the Columbus area I would definitely book at the Marriott again! read more

The staff I interacted with at this hotel was terrible and does not care about the customer or have the best interest of the company at heart. My credit card information was stolen and was used to book a room at this hotel. After I notified the hotel that I had cancelled my card and they wouldn't be paid for the stay they did not seem at all interested that there was a criminal staying in their hotel. I asked them to call the police because I was worried how much of my other information they had and they said that was "against their protocol" and couldn't do anything without a manager. I even stated....they used a stolen card are you not worried what other illegal things they may be doing in the room? They simply stated that that was above their head....Bottom line up front...there could be any number of illegal activities being done in the hotel (drugs, rapes, etc) and the hotel won't call the police... doesn't seem very safe to me. read more

I booked a two day stay for the weekend of the Tuskegee/Morehouse Football Game. This was a fantastic dining and lodging experience, from the professional and caring staff at check-in and the hostesses and servers in the restaurant . My room and all public areas were immaculate. This property has the most friendly and courteous employees that i have ever seen in a hotel. I was always greeted in the hallways with a smile and friendly greeting by the housekeeping staff. If I had to name or single out a member of housekeeping staff it would be Ms Ann Thomas, Lobby Attendant , for her professional appearance and her friendly and courteous demeanor. This historic hotel is nestled in the downtown area of Columbus Georgia. Apparently this is a building that out dates the civil war. Check-in was friendly Only thing I feel met Marriott's standards was the parking lot seemed insecure and slightly sketchy. read more

I had a wonderful 3 nite stay. The hotel is clean and quiet (except for the train which they don't control). Convenient location to uptown restaurants/bars and the opera house. Check in was great and front desk staff welcoming. The staff in the concierge lounge were some of the best in the Marriott family that I have found! Joyce was friendly and ready to help you get your day started and Lynda was very attentive and great to chat with as you were winding down at nite. While breakfast and dinner snack was fairly typical the chef seemed to add a few yummies such as cheese blintz one morning and spicy meatballs one nite. I found the housekeeping staff equally friendly! I would recommend this hotel. read more

Not impressed. Aging hotel, which shows in the room appointments, carpets, and odor. No concierge lounge for Marriott Rewards club members. The North side of the hotel faces train tracks that carry a freight train in the middle of the night, so if you must stay, request a Southern room. Lobby is nice and the Houlihan's is good. Mediocre example of a Marriott. In Cols I'd much rather stay at the Homewood and have heard the Hyatt is good. Needs a refresh/remodel. read more

The staff at this hotel was super friendly, and the building itself is very interesting and in a great area, where you can easily walk all over Columbus. The parking lot is slightly difficult to access (the entrance isn't where you'd expect), but there are 2 of them, so if you're only seeing a small one that looks full, go around the block. I'd definitely go back here, the location makes it too convenient, even if the staff/rooms were terrible, which they most definitely are not! read more

We had to check-in to this place at midnight after staying in an awful hotel nearby. The front desk was MORE than helpful, friendly and accommodating. I'm sure we drove Tyler, the check-in clerk, crazy but he was smiling throughout our entire conversation and offered us help in any way he could. Then, in the morning we realized that we misplaced out breakfast vouchers so we stopped by the front desk to ask if we could have another. They graciously gave us two more which allowed for us to have a great breakfast experience at Houlihans. I am really impressed with this place. Given Columbus, Georgia is not a huge town this is a really nice hotel. They have a beautiful lobby with Houlihan's downstairs for food and drinks. The rooms are nicely done though the lighting could be a little brighter. I think they are going for the softer light which is charming but makes it hard to get moving in the morning as you feel you should lounge more! I look to be staying at this place for the next 2 months for work so I hope not to lose this warm, fuzzy feeling. read more

Hotel is clean. Location is good. Had a nice room. The hotel itself is quiet. But it sits right next to an active freight train track. Train came through at 1130 pm and just before 6 am. It is impossible to hide from the horn which blows 2-4 times. It is straight out of my cousin vinny and it is impossible not to judge the hotel without factoring that in. Staff pleasant. Efficient. Train kills it. Otherwise this is 3.5-4 stars. Second stay. Trying the "tower" side. Will update. Speaking of updating, the gym in the hotel looks like it was designed by the mandelbaums from Seinfeld. It desperately needs to be upgraded. Equipment and set up is simply not sufficient. Horn went off just before midnight. Clearly heard. Didn't hear it for rest of night. Upping to 3 stars. read more

The hotel is old and the decor shows it. Walls are thin and noise from the hallway comes in loud a clear. The lobby is very well done, but that does not translate to your room. AC was broken in the first room I was in, when the tech came up and took off the cover he said he 'smelled it' and I got assigned another room with barely an apology. Houlihan's downstairs is nice but way overpriced and the waitresses have a bit of an attitude. Fitness center and pool area are nice. Like most high-end hotels, nothing is free. Internet 9.95 a day. Breakfast buffet in Houlihan's 14.95. I just know they're working on a way to charge guests for keeping the small in-room fridge cold... read more
