Brioche French toast with blueberry sauce
    Denise S.

We rented out this beautiful home for my daughter's outside wedding. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The hosts were wonderful. No one missed a breakfast! Their lemon ricotta pancakes are fabulous! I can also attest to their brioche French toast. It is pictured with blueberry sauce but we were also offered maple syrup. The pineapple cup with pecans was really good! Also enjoyed the homemade biscuit with a choice of 3 jams! No one is leaving the breakfast table hungry! They also serve a classic breakfast with eggs and hash browns and biscuit, etc. I would recommend staying here to anyone! Conveniently located in the historical district near downtown Opelika. The hosts provide everything you need for a relaxing stay!

We love staying at this charming historical bed & breakfast when we visit our nephew who goes to school at Auburn. It is located in a charming town not far from the university. The hosts are so accommodating, and really make you feel at home. The rooms all have a different theme, and each are appointed with antique furnishing and other neat decor. This visit we stayed in the Seaside room, and loved it. The breakfast is by far one of my favorite parts of the place! We stayed for 3 nights, and enjoyed different options each morning. We would always start with a small yogurt & fruit parfait sprinkled with some nuts on top. For our main entrees, we tried the lemon ricotta pancakes, 2 eggs with hash browns, and the shrimp & grits. All delicious! They also had these amazing biscuits served with butter and jam (to die for). We enjoyed every moment of our stay. They have a beautiful porch with rocking chairs to relax in the shade. Their lawn is like a golf course, and great to play croquet on. We highly recommend this bed & breakfast for a unique experience.

Upscale redefined! The booking on this was easy as pie as soon as we saw the pictures of this mansion! The meticulous attention to detail, the amazing taste in furnishings, and the superior care of this B & B make this a must go to stay experience. Leif and Dani have poured their lives into this adventure. This is so much more than a business to them, it's a lifestyle worthy of sharing. From the moment we entered we were greeted with warmth, grace and dignity. I am posting this review on the evening of our first night - before we've even had the breakfast experience. If this seems premature, we'll, it's because we have such a confident expectation that all will go splendidly. Perfectly situated in the Historic District of Opelika, Alabama. C'mon down ya'll, stay a spell.

Easily my favorite place to stay! Beautiful building and grounds, options for private or common spaces, and incredible breakfast! I was the first one up this morning, so I had the pleasure of starting the coffee. I can't wait to come back!

As gorgeous as the exterior of Heritage House is, the interior is inviting, enchanting, and full of hospitality. I was greeted with French cafe lounge music a form for my breakfast, and a charming hostess. The keeper of this jewel was friendly with providing me an overview of historic Downtown Opelika. she led me up the grand staircase to my room. After an overview of how to use the antique French balcony doors and where the complimentary snacks were, I was encouraged to explore the home. I was very fortunate that I was the only boarder so I was free to explore all of the rooms. Each room had an allure and charm all of its own. After my exploring and my event, the king sized bed was like sleeping on a cozy marshmallow. My breakfast was amazing. Not only was the food superb, the ambiance was fitting for a queen- greek yogurt with berries, 2 over-easy eggs, hash browns, crispy bacon, and a fluffy biscuit with sweet fruit jam. This breakfast was a perfect start to my morning where I could enjoy some more time to lounge in my comedy bed due to a late check out. If you are needing to sweep someone off their feet (or sweep yourself off your own feet), I highly recommend Heritage House. Impeccable service and a home with a personality all its own.

On our last vacation we routed our trip from Amelia Island to Muscle Shoals with a stop in Opelika expressly to stay at the Heritage House BnB. The house is beautiful and the large columns make it very grand. The owners are very nice folks and accommodating to make your stay pleasant. We again stayed in the downstairs room which has a private entrance and is pet friendly. Both times we stayed here we walked to the Irish Bred Pub for dinner and drinks. In the morning our hosts make a superb home cooked breakfast. It is a very enjoyable stay.

I love visiting-I have been here twice now. The beds are extremely comfortable, the house is very clean, the rooms are decorated elegantly, and it just feels good to be at the Heritage House. The owners have done such a fantastic thought keeping up with the place. Breakfast is also delicious and I appreciate the details with making each stay comfortable and special. Everyone needs to make it a point to come visit!

Leif and his wife are great hosts! Professional, friendly and accommodating Breakfast is delicious. Thankful for the early morning coffee that is waiting for us every morning. Beautiful accomodations and sparkling clean. Highly recommend. This was our second stay and we will be back again very soon! Great stopping place on a trip to Pensacola.

From the moment you enter the front of the home you are transported back in time. The rooms are large, very well appointed and the roomy king sized mattresses are so very comfortable. Fresh cold water and ice are delivered and everything you need to relax is in the home. I could not hear any other guests in the house and felt as though I was royalty. Wonderful hosts bend over backwards for your comfort.

This was the best bed and breakfast experience we could have asked for. The cleanliness was impeccable, the food was amazing, and the service from the owners went above and beyond. We felt so welcomed and comfortable here, our only regret is that we didn't stay longer! We will absolutely be back again

Our upstairs "journey room" was huge -- could've accommodated 2 more people -- in addition to being extremely clean and comfortable....even the bath towels seemed extra soft and fluffy. We all slept great in VERY comfortable beds and enjoyed meeting Judy, the owner, who made us an AWESOME breakfast of bacon, cooked-to-order eggs and a Victorian waffle bar (delicious heart-shaped waffles, pecans, strawberries, whipped cream and sugar, all in authentic Victorian servingware), plus my son was served his milk in a lidded Minions cup! Homemade cookies and other snacks are available in the guest kitchen (peanuts, raisins, popcorn, apples), as well as cold drinks in the common-use fridge, not far from the pool table. We were allowed to bring our bikes that we took to Callaway Gardens today inside overnight. We forgot one of my son's toys and Judy called to tell us, and offered us Cokes when we swung back by to get it. She is an incredibly attentive hostess, who even wears Victorian era dress. There is no downside to choosing to be her guest!

This was supposed to be a beautiful, joyful weekend celebrating my cousin's wedding in Alexander City, Alabama. Family members traveled from all over, some driving over ten hours, others flying in, just to be there. The property itself was absolutely stunning, but the owners' behavior completely ruined any chance of it being the special and happy weekend it was meant to be. From the moment we arrived, the woman who owns the bed and breakfast was immediately rude, condescending, and unwelcoming, an attitude that carried throughout the entire weekend. She spoke to guests like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. During the rehearsal, both owners micromanaged everything, constantly interrupting, yelling, and talking down to the bridal party as if it were their wedding. We were all there to celebrate and help, but their behavior made everyone uncomfortable . It didn't stop there. At one point, my sister's two children were playing a game on their Nintendo Switch in the living room. The woman actually went over and scolded my nephew, telling him to give his brother a turn because she was "tired of hearing him scream." Then, unbelievably, she came back with a TIMER and told the kids they had to take turns. Who in their right mind disciplines guests' children like that? The entire family was shocked that she thought that kind of overstepping was acceptable. Another disturbing moment was when my three-year-old daughter needed to use the restroom. She ran up the steps toward the bathroom we had just used an hour earlier, and before she could even get inside, the same woman stopped her and said, "No, no, no, you need to turn around and go back to your adult." The woman clearly didn't know I was walking around the corner and overheard this. My child was about to have an accident, and this woman was more concerned with controlling people than being kind or accommodating. It was truly unbelievable. To make matters worse, the male owner MOVED MY CAR without permission, claiming it was for parking purposes, yet by the end of the night, the space was empty. They THREW AWAY over $500 worth of catering that the family had paid for, simply because they "didn't want it sitting out." Their controlling attitude and lack of respect were beyond anything I've ever experienced. And the final straw? During the reception, the female owner snatched a microphone out of a guest's hand mid-song, claiming "we don't do karaoke here," despite the fact that karaoke had been going on for hours with the bride and groom's full permission. When confronted, she and her husband escalated the situation and actually had a member of the family kicked out of the wedding The rest of us left in protest. It was heartbreaking to see such an important day end in chaos because of two people who should never be in the hospitality business. This venue is physically beautiful, but beauty means nothing when it's run by people who treat guests so poorly. The owners are controlling, unprofessional, and completely out of touch with how to treat others. They ruined what should have been one of the happiest days of our family's life, and that's something we'll never forget. If you're considering booking your wedding or event here, please don't. No matter how pretty the pictures look, the experience behind them is anything but. You deserve better than to have your once-in-a-lifetime day destroyed by people like this.

I travel extensively and I had planned a trip to Columbus with my wife for a special occasion. We much prefer to stay at historic B&Bs for getaways like this, and the Rothschild-Pound House looked like a great choice. Most hotels were booked in town (which maybe should have been a clue as to how there was an available room here). On July 1st, I made a reservation for the 12th at which point my credit card was promptly charged the full amount. The day before I was to arrive, I received a phone message at 6:30am stating that they were having the floors redone and would be cancelling my reservation. I'm not sure how they didn't realize they'd be having the floors done that day until 24 hours beforehand and nowhere on their website or in any correspondence is there a mention of renovations. Their own policy, if I had tried to cancel my reservation, is "Cancelation must be made 14 days in advance of the check-in date. If canceled after that, a 50% credit will be offered for a future stay." I returned the call to see how they would offer to make this right on such short notice and it went straight to voicemail. 6 hours later, I received a call-back from Mamie Pound. Her advice was for me to book at another hotel in Columbus and offered to give me the phone number of the Columbus Marriot. Less than helpful, to say the least. Not even an offer of a 50% credit off of a future stay as per their own policy (not that I would ever actually consider staying here in the future). When I stated the facts back to her, she became very defensive and accused me of arguing with her. (You can see all of the other reviews on-line regarding the owner's defensiveness.) I was in the middle of asking another question when she simply hung up on me. Extremely unprofessional, rude, and no way to build customer goodwill. As of this writing, my credit card still has not been refunded. My advice, if you are traveling to Columbus, is to book your stay elsewhere than at the Rothschild-Pound House. I was forced to.
