Dinglewood dog sans forgotten oyster crackers
    Amy B.

So I realize this is considered a Columbus institution but either the food used to be much better or people are looking through a nostalgia lens. I had the much lauded dinglewood dog. First they forgot the oyster crackers. Second that chili was the most flavorless chili I have ever had. The hot dog is also one of those cheap red hot dogs. Overall nothing deserving of praise. The fries on the side were soggy as well. It was not a good price for the quality of food I received. I wouldn't go back as I can make a better hot dog at home or at one of the other restaurants in town who also make hot dogs.

Took the whole family while visiting Ft Benning. Most of us ordered the famous scrambled dog. The dogs were sliced, not very big and was served "luke warm". Very mild taste. Meh. A bit on the pricey side.

Neat little spot. If you stop in, do yourself a favor and try their [almost] world famous Scramble Dog! They say they close at 6pm, but the cook was almost packed up by 5:30p and out the door at 5:40p and we could no longer get service. This place likes to be locking the doors at 6p and not serving customers UNTIL 6p...my only gripe. -1 star for not holding true to hours. Get there early enough and this isn't a problem.

It was mid afternoon when we arrived at Dinglewood Pharmacy was very busy. Folks waiting for tables and a wait to place a to-go order. The servers seemed stressed but I had no problem being patient. We were about to try our first scrambled dogs and that's not a moment to be rushed. We eventually placed our to-go order and explored the pharmacy a bit until the food was ready. We got a scrambled dog, a Mexican scrambled dog, onion rings, and one of their cherry lemon sodas. Because the restaurant was so busy, it took a bit of time for our food to be prepared. When it was ready, we took it to Dinglewood Park and ate at their picnic tables. Unfortunately, I don't think the scrambled dog is my preferred style. Because everything is swimming in chili the majority of bites lack any sort of texture. The chili also has beans which I've always thought is a hot dog chili "no no." I know everyone has their way of doing things, but this isn't it for me. On a brighter note, the onion rings were really good as was the soda. I love that this is a community institution and may it continue being that.

I am visiting colga for the week and my best friend wanted to go to lunch! She told me she was gonna take me to a Columbus classic, and she was right! This place was so cool- like an old soda counter but for hot dogs. There is a full pharmacy inside, but also plenty of seating for the lunch bar. It was packed! The food was pretty average but exactly what you would expect, the workers were SO friendly and joked around with us. A little pricey for a hot dog, but it was great to try this place!

Stopped for lunch at the famous Dinglewood Pharmacy's lunch counter while traveling through Columbus GA; my Wife's home town. They are famous around these parts for their Scramble Dog. It is a dish filled with a cut up hot dog on a bun covered in Chili, Onions, Pickles, and yellow mustard, and chili crackers. Sounds scary... but really a decadent tasty delight! Very clean, Low prices, easy parking, and friendly service. They offer a menu of many lunch items. Try the Pimento Cheese Sammy! Very nostalgic and lots of fun! The place is usually packed.

I know this is a landmark and everything but I really thought this place was just, all right. A scramble dog is just a chili dog that's been cut up and if I'm going to rate a chili dog. I would have to say that it's weak and not worth your time. The chili was weak, not very thick but more importantly, not very tasty it had me reaching for the hot sauce a handful of times before I finished. I didn't get a fountain soda, but I did get their homemade lemonade which was pretty good but the meal itself wasn't very good. The fries, were pretty standard and just like the chili dog could use improvement. I know there are a bunch of places here that also serve scramble dogs but after this place, I'm not sure if I want to try them anymore.

$8 for a bland scramble dog and a tea.

Not sure why people kept telling me to eat here. Worst scramble dog I've ever had and very overpriced. Go to Cooks instead...

If you're an out of towner and want to get some Columbus flavor, Dinglewood is a fun stop. I agree with Erin K. You don't really come here for the food. You come here for the experience and to say that you've been to the home of the scramble dog. Does it deserve a 5 rating? Probably not, but it really has been an interesting part of the this Columbus trip that I recommend it to anyone from out of town. I always like to find signature items of wherever I travel. I came to this old establishment on recommendations. The concept of selling sodium and fat filled hot dogs at a Pharmacy (place to get meds to help IMPROVE your health) is completely foreign to me. Then again, in some states, like California, some pharmacies sell liquor, so I guess selling a hot dog here isn't that bad. Sorry, I have digressed. I sat down at the modest counter. The place was reminiscent of the days of soda jerks and barber shop quartets. The background music even played popular songs from the 40s like the Chordettes. I was motioned to order. Having heard so much about this scramble dog, it was an easy choice, only I didn't know what a scramble dog is. It was like a blind date with fast food. I had heard so many nice things but really didn't know what to expect. It only took a matter of seconds before I learned that it is a chopped up hot dog in a bun, smothered with chilli and topped with onions, pickles, and oyster crackers. This was the most unusual hot dog concoction that I had seen since eating hot dogs with goldfish crackers outside of Vision Nightclub. The hot dogs at Dinglewood are practically neon pink. If they turned out the lights, I'm almost convinced they'd glow. The dish was pretty good. Props for innovation! The chili was not bad, and I was happy to find that it wasn't too salty, as much of the southern food in Columbus is. I asked about the history of the "scramble dog". The man was unimpressed with my fascination with this famous Columbus dish. (He gave me a look that pretty much screamed..."oh, you're not from around here") I'm sure he's told this story a bazillion times, but he humored me and told the story about "The Lieutenant" and the owner and how Dinglewood was the original home of the "scramble dog". He even had pictures to go along with the story. It was a nice experience and I'd recommend it if you're looking for something unique to Columbus. The place also has ice cream, sodas, and tons of meds in case you want something for that heartburn after eating.

The staff was so friendly and we had a blast. The food was ok but I would recommend you go just for the experience

Got to have a Scramble Dog! I've been eating them since I was a child and I'll be 72 next month. Worth the trip.

Want an overdyed chili dog covered with oyster crackers? This is your spot! The rest of the menu is mediocre at best.
