Fantastic dive bar. Great place to play pool. Juke box. Cool and friendly bartender who was knowledgeable about beers. Clean bathrooms.

Perfect place for my 250th review on Yelp. I went here to play pool and drink beer with some good…read morefriends after a buddy's father's funeral and wake in Columbus, Georgia. Bobby's Bar, located at 1718 Morris Rd, is a small cinder-block building by the side of the road. The place is a typical small-town, honky-tonk variety of roadside dive bar; very popular with the area blue collar workers and local bar flies. It's the kind of place where you can drink cheap pitchers of beer, play pool (or horseshoes out back if the weather is nice) and hang with your closest of friends. On the day I went the weather was nice and the smell of reefer permeated the mid-afternoon air drifting in through the open doorway leading outside to the backyard. Out back was where some local blue collar types were throwing horseshoes and celebrating the beautiful warm sunny weather breaking up the doldrums of the Winter cold snap. Classic Rock, Country Rock (and some 80s era songs that my friend Dennis kept playing to get a rise out of the locals) was continuously blaring from the jukebox inside the bar. Sadly this place does not serve food; that would have been interesting indeed. The bartenders were nice; however, when my friend asked if we could run a tab, the sweet lady bartender (who had worked the afternoon shift) nodded and then very nicely stated, "we prefer that you pay as you go." Best not to piss off the locals if you find yourself getting too drunk or overly obnoxious or cocky while playing pool or horseshoes. This is the kind of place where you might get your ass seriously kicked if you mouth off to or piss off the wrong person. Columbus, Georgia (like most military base towns in the South) can be a hazardous place for the uninitiated. Don't boast about being from Atlanta; folks in Southwest Georgia tend to be distrustful of if not outright negatively inclined towards non-locals - especially Atlantans. As long as you behave nicely, the locals will be nice to you; stop being nice and you will be in trouble. The drink coasters on the tables had the bar's logo imprinted on them and the logo states that Bobby's has been in business since 1961. I don't think much has changed with respect to the interior of the place since 1961. The walls are covered with old, brown wood paneling; the floor is covered with old vinyl tiling. The bathroom, though clean, features bare cinderblock walls and bare concrete slab for the floor. As far as dive bars go, this one is solid. Perhaps really deserves 3.5 or 4 stars. If you find yourself in Columbus, and feel like doing some drinking, you might as well go to Bobby's since you sure could do a hell of a lot worse elsewhere.

This is a great place to feel at home. Much like Mama's Bar on the other side of Columbus, Bobby's…read moreBar has the best of a bar; alcohol, billiards, darts, and patrons that make you feel comfortable to be there.
