Clean room with comfy bed
Jonathan H.

We would have done a 5*, if the shower had a door that closed it off, so it was easier to shave legs and not have a heat issue! The fake marble up the wall was a little strange too. It was very clean otherwise, the bed was comfy, plenty of parking, and the price savings to be a little outside of Newport was worth it. They have a shuttle that will take you to downtown Newport too, which is nice.

Stayed here with a group on a 4 day bus trip. Service is outstanding. Hotel is super clean and well taken care of. Our buffet dinner was fresh, hot, and delicious. Our breakfast buffet was excellent as well. Beds are comfortable and our view is beautiful.

So we returned! We were here last year and had a block booked for our wedding. We decided to come back to celebrate our one year anniversary! Virginia and the Wyndham staff are amazing and treat you with such kindness! They knew how important it was for us to celebrate our one year anniversary here. They went out of their way to make us feel special by giving us a beautiful card and cheese platter to celebrate! Everything here is beautiful and we absolutely loved our room! Thank you, Wyndham! I hope we are blessed enough to continue this new tradition of celebrating here.

We had such a great time! The property was very clean with is much appreciated during Covid. I appreciate the level of detail they took when eating at the restaurant (for contact tracing purposes). The reason for four stars was that I had a bunch of eggshells in my dish, but luckily I also ordered a salad and was pretty full off of that. The views are amazing and the room sizes are great. At night, it did get a little loud, but everyone is coming out of quarantine and celebrating that, so I didn't call down to complain. Very close the the beach and flos crab shack. Would DEFINITELY come back to this place!

First time visiting Newport, RI and we stayed at their 2 king-size beds with partial water view. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff was friendly. Loved how spacious/clean the room is. The room also has a nice lounge sofa by the windows, which you can open for some fresh air. The bathroom is a sliding glass barn door with no lock. No tub, it is a standing shower. There is free Wi-Fi and parking (plenty of parking spaces in the hotel). The gym is open 24/7 and it is very small located in the basement. There is a pool, which closes at 8PM, but make sure to call to see if they are open especially now with COVID.

One of the best places I've stayed. This hotel puts my recent Hilton Garden Inn stay to shame. This hotel is clean and updated. The bed MAY have been the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept in. Staff was super accommodating and helpful regarding the surrounding area. Stopped in on a Tuesday night and were lucky they had a vacancy. Will definitely stay again when in the area. Major shopping and restaurants within the area and the hotel offers a courtesy shuttle downtown, complete with the driver giving you a history tour, very fun!

Sad because I loved the location, the grounds and the hotel! I was definitely going to give a 4 or even 5 star review, until I was shocked by the woman who worked Saturday July 18th at the front desk during the overnight shift. My boyfriend and I went for a walk around 3:30am because right when we arrived we left to grab dinner and drinks. We really didn't get a chance to check out the hotel/grounds/etc. So we walked down to the lobby- walked around outside and then went into the "Guest Office" which is on the first floor (same floor as the lobby) and was filled with tourist attractions, maps, brochures, a computer and iPad. As guests of this very hotel we had paid for- I didn't think anything of it. Until we were harassed for walking around - THE VERY HOTEL I PAID TO BE A GUEST IN!!! After grabbing a few maps and pamphlets we went to look at the pool and the security guard immediately opens the door and asks what we are doing. I said just checking out the hotel & he told us the lady at the front desk says we can't wander the halls because guests are trying to sleep??? IM SORRY- but what?!!?!? The security guard was REALLY nice and apologetic but WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!? I was kind of beside myself and didn't want an argument so we both just said ok and quietly walked back to our room. I've NEVER EVER been harrassed for walking around my OWN hotel at night and I travel a lot and have stayed at a lot of different hotels- everything from 2 stars to 5. The weird part was we were 100% quiet and barely spoke above a whisper. We weren't disruptive or loud by ANY means. I COULD see if I was being rowdy loud or disrespectful- but to not be able to walk into the GUEST ROOM at YOUR OWN HOTEL?!?!?! AM I MISSING SOMETHING? She also cockily told my boyfriend he needed his mask at 3:30 am on his way out the door when not a soul in the hotel was up or around!! Attitude adjustment and like some type of "power trip check" might be needed- this is the HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY & this is just completely unacceptable! I AM STILL SHOCKED OVER what happened last night because the employee who checked us in was AMAZING and Everyone else I've encountered here during our stay was beyond GREAT! The woman who checked us in, the security guard, the woman who brought up our room service, the people who helped us coordinate our late checkout and even the women who cleaned our room-- all WONDERFUL!!! But I guess one rotten apple truly does ruin the whole bunch. Because the next morning I just didn't feel like a guest here anymore! I was so disappointed because I really liked this venue and was admiring the wedding's they had here and was even considering it as a possible venue for my wedding. I just want to pretend last night NEVER happened because otherwise it would 100% be a 4 or 5 star review! So so disappointed!

The personalized note and present the staff left us!

Kathy at the concierge was incredibly accommodating and welcoming right from the start, making us feel comfortable and taken care of. At the bar, Olivia was wonderful pouring and guiding us through the wines, while Maurice was the true star of the show. Emmett also stood out as someone who truly understands hospitality--polished, attentive, and naturally great with guests. Even without staying overnight, the experience alone makes The Brenton worth a visit. We'll absolutely be back. Next time for an overnight stay!

Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and how beautiful the property looked online, we were genuinely excited to spend a couple of nights here. Unfortunately, for nearly $1,000 per night, the experience fell well short of expectations. At check-in, the concierge seemed completely uninterested. There was no welcome, no overview of the hotel, and no helpful information offered- it genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing her just by being there. We've stayed at other hotels in a similar price range, where the service is consistently warm, attentive, and polished, so this was especially disappointing. The valet was far more welcoming and professional than the front desk. After a short walk around town, we returned to the hotel and weren't acknowledged at all, the concierge kept her head down on her phone. I can appreciate a no-fuss stay where guests aren't overbothered, but for the price point and the fact that this was a special anniversary trip, being completely ignored wasn't what we expected. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The hotel itself is very pretty. The furnishings are lovely, and the room was nice and comfortable. The views were nothing particularly special; it appears the ocean-facing side is reserved for a conference space. Still, we did enjoy the room. Like many Newport hotels, valet parking is the only option and comes with a daily fee. The valet team was excellent- friendly, accommodating, and consistent throughout our stay. The restaurant deserves special mention: the staff was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Truly a five-star experience there- would def go back to dine with them. The location is also a positive, close enough to everything without being directly on the busy street. However, overall, we wouldn't choose to stay here again at this price point. Upon checkout, we noticed a charming bar/library space that we didn't even realize was available to guests as no one mentioned it to us during check-in. A beautiful hotel is wonderful, but to be considered luxury, the service needs to match the setting. Unfortunately, that piece was missing for us. If we wanted an experience that anyone could offer, we could have gone anywhere else, for much less.

It's a great spot for a drink especially in the summer time. Our recent visit on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, was not great. Despite it being a warm summer evening around 8 PM on a Wednesday, we were turned away because one person in our party wore a t-shirt instead of a collared shirt. For a midweek outing in August, that felt unnecessarily rigid and to be honest a little too pretentious. Although we can understand enforcing dress codes on weekend nights this seemed out of touch. We ended up at Thames Street Kitchen and Audette instead, both of which did not have strict dress codes. The Studio Bar at the Gardiner House still makes great cocktails, but the hospitality needs to match.

We parked in the front and unloaded the cars easily. We did not use valet, the Marriott lot was $48 a night. Walking to the lot next door took about 2 minutes. The lobby is spacious, clean and very pretty. There's a water machine with flavored waters. Front desk staff are very professional and friendly. Valet guys are all nice and open the doors for you 98% of the time. With the daily destination fee, you also get 2 free tickets per room to the sailing museum or a vineyard 15 mins away (Sailing museum is free on Wednesdays). Had I known the museum was free Wednesdays, I would have chose the vineyard tickets instead. You also get $20 per room to use at the bar/restaurants as well as 2 bikes to rent. We checked into connecting balcony rooms. The rooms were clean but the balcony doors were hard to open. You have to pull it back really hard before unlocking it. The beds were comfortable. There are no microwaves but I called in to request one for the room. The first night I went to skiff bar to order some food and use our 2 $20 food credits. I ordered oysters and coconut shrimp. The oyster appetizer was terrible... the oysters flesh was tiny, totally not worth it. The next morning we had the hotel buffet for $32 a head. Omelet station was good. Standard breakfast items, view was good. We really only ate there for the view. Our waitress was barely around. Hotel is at a great location. Very close to the wharf and also right across from a small aquarium. The balcony was a nice place to chill, overall the hotel wasn't crowded. It's also very safe because you need to swipe a keycard to get to the hotel rooms. Best part of staying here was a pool table in the skiff bar. While waiting for my food, I just played two games by myself. I usually stay at Hiltons but I chose this Marriott because of the location and views. Glad I made this decision. I would definitely pick this hotel again should I decide to visit Rhode Island again!

If you are not one of the lucky three that gets a spot in the side lot you have to park in the garage and the garage is tight. Tight tight, tighter than tight, as tight as you can get. Put it this way, it took me about 15 minutes to safely pull into a space in absolute fear I was going to hit a pole or the car parked next to me. When it was time to pull out, torture, luckily someone who worked here saw me struggling and he offered to get in and do it for me. Even for him, it took multiple attempts to steer clear of any objects. It's a real pain in the ass I can't sugar coat it. Next negative, the toilet in my room wouldn't flush. That was frustrating and when I told the front desk attendant she wasn't' surprised so this must be a thing. Also, whenever I walked into my bedroom I got a wet sock, there was a leak of some sort I think it may have been coming from the air conditioner unit up above but I can't be too sure. Next negative, the outlets are crappy, anything I plugged in was super loose I really had to jam it in there and that was the case with every outlet, some were unusable because of how loose they were. Lastly, the shower was scalding hot, scalding. I adjusted the temperature but no matter which way I turned it was different levels of scalding. I had to let the shower run for five minutes before I could get in there and I like a hot shower. This temperature was hospital burn status. Okay the real last thing, no elevator. I had to lug up two flights of stairs with my big ass suitcase but is it Mill Street Inn's fault that I packed a weeks worth of stuff for one night or is that a me problem? As I'm mentioning all these negatives I'm wondering if 4 stars is appropriate but I'm sticking with it and I'll tell you why. The room was beautiful and enormous. I stayed in a suite with a dining room table and chairs, a couch, coffee table, multiple arm chairs, huge bed with the most comfortable pillows I have ever experienced in my entire life. Dreamy I tell you, like melting in but not too much, just perfect. The bathroom vanity counter was enormous. I had so much room to put out all of my things, much appreciated. The location could not have been better. One block away from the main street, the easiest walk to everywhere. Also tucked away in a beautiful neighborhood so it was safe, cozy and quiet. I walked back from a night out by myself and felt extremely safe doing so. The lobby is beautiful, they had complimentary sangria and complimentary water with lemons and limes. They had every board game you could imagine, I loved that. There was a fitness center with canned electrolyte infused waters, they had a beautiful roof top which I had entirely to myself both times I went up there. Gorgeous views of the neighborhood and the water. I loved my time up there it was serene and relaxing with tons of tables and chairs for lounging. They had complimentary breakfast served to your door in the morning. The night before you pick and choose what you want from each category and there was plenty to choose from. I ordered an organic cold brew, two hard boiled eggs, granola, and something else, anyways everything came to the door at the exact minute I asked for it to be delivered and it was delicious. Also, they give you a welcome bag with snacks when you arrive! There were pretzels, a massive bag of popcorn and sea salt caramels. I thought that was such a special touch. Anyways, looking back there were a lot of annoyances that could have aggravated me but there were so many good things about my stay that the good overshadowed the bad and I would 100% stay here again.

I loved the location of this hotel and the clean lines of the common spaces and rooms. However the $45 valet parking fee is ridiculous at the end of the season (10/28). Offer a self service option for half that - but, oh, wait, UPP owns the hotel lot too, as well as pretty much all parking in Newport. Certainly there were a lot of hotel amenities missing at this price point as others have mentioned (very small gym, and no coffee makers, no microwave, no mini fridge in room (nor safes), but also the daybed was dusty and the TV lacked options, which may have been ok, but I couldn't even mirror my own device/streaming service to the TV. Ideally you're not in your hotel room when in Newport, but if you're here for work and need some down time, those are all minuses. The Bohlin is an impressive location and I was glad to experience an event there. Was not at all impressed with the service, ever, especially for a special event venue catering largely to weddings where service is everything. To be clear, it was a brunch buffet, not a sit down meal. That said, it was Mother's Day. Tables were set beautifully. Server brought us water, nothing else. If we wanted a cocktail, we had to stand at the bar and get it ourselves. Coffee after lunch? Ditto. Brunches have multiple courses. We should have been given clean cutlery in exchange for the removal of a plate instead of being forced to lay dirty cutlery on a clean ivory tablecloth and then reuse them, again and again. That part was a total turnoff and not encouraging for anyone considering it as a future event venue. The food offering was varied and generally a success. The bacon was delicious and good quality. The frittata bites were a good and elegant option to the usual chafing dish full of scrambled eggs. Kudos to the chef for the beef sirloin although at $95 a head, one might have expected a carving station over sliced beef steaks piled into a chafing dish that just dried out the beef over time. The accompanying horseradish cream was quite good. Everyone seemed to really love the raw bar and raclette station. The desserts were well curated , not just slabs of sweets on the table. The pasta dishes? Meh. The cacio e pepe was nothing more than a runny version of the mac and cheese from the kids table with some pancetta or proscuitto specks in it. Fairly tasteless. Location was wonderful but at that likely price point for a private event, I thought the experience was mediocre. Looking forward to going back to Castle Hill instead.
