The bartender, Amanda, seemed pretty busy taking care of the regulars, which is fair. The TouchTunes jukebox was on, and I went ahead and paid a little extra to jump the line. What happened next was a fascinating display of customer loyalty. The regulars, with a little encouragement from Amanda, started skipping the songs I'd just paid for. It's a bold move, really. I get that the "asshole button" exists for a reason, but it's not usually the bartender's job to press it for sport. Honestly, I don't expect much from a dive bar. But I did expect the simple courtesy of having my music play after I paid for it. It's a small detail, sure, but it's a bit rude to not give your customers a fair shake, no matter who they are. I've always liked this bar, but this time was a bit different. They certainly know how to make new customers feel right at home.

I thought there could have been a little bit more of the cheese curd, it was fried, but I know every place makes theirs a little different. The atmosphere is great; it reminds you of a cabin on the inside and of course you're in Wrightwood CA so it's a perfect mountain hangout. The tables are clean, the area swept up and a very inviting indoor environment as outdoor environment. This is a rustic environment, so don't expect four-star accommodation. Again, as I said, it is perfect for this area, and I would expect nothing less. The service was great, we had two or three different servers, and they were always polite, knew their menu well, and offered upgrades. Had a great conversation with this server and he had been coming up there for years himself before working there. His daughter and wife were outside, and he would periodically chat with them which made us feel like it was a great family environment. The menu is varied and they have some excellent hamburgers; I have had the patty melt in the past. There is something about being 5000 feet above sea level, having a cold drink, and hot food; it's amazing. The space is intimate, cozy, and beautifully decorated with a New Mexico inspired vibe that gives it a unique touch. The bartender was super nice, and the music was great all night. It was definitely more of a lively atmosphere, so conversation was a bit difficult at times due to the volume, but we still had a wonderful time enjoying the drinks and music. Overall, it was a fun experience, and we're glad we stopped by. We'd love to come back on a non Sunday evening to experience the speakeasy in a different setting.

But it was way too much. Any notes of mango or fruit or sweetness was lost in the smoke. The blue sky looked pretty. But after having a sip of the silver cloud it killed my taste buds. I couldn't taste anything in the blue sky. After our first round of drinks we were done. Had to go home and make myself an extremely sweet drink to get my taste buds back..... its a great concept. The price point is reasonable. 16 dollars for each drink. I do love the decor. But the vibes from the outside is distracting. If your into mezcals and smokey drinks this place is for you. Meticulously designed with a nostalgic feel, the bar features blonde wood shelves holding hundreds of vinyl records, carefully curated design objects, and a DJ booth neatly tucked into a corner next to the bar. The beer taps are elegantly minimalist, and every detail in the bar--for example, the old-fashioned glass syrup bottles--seems planned to give a nod to history (specifically the late 19th century, when Redlands was founded). The main dining room offers plenty of comfortable seating choices, including a long bar along the center of the room. The patio is spacious and well kept. All of the spaces inside and out have music piped in from the bar. There are two restrooms just off the patio, and these are well-maintained. On busy nights, patrons can enjoy a drink in a standing bar area just off the patio. I love that the Overland provides a choice of setting depending on the kind of night you're planning. A romantic date? Get a reservation to sit inside, and it feels intimate. Just hanging out? The bar is fun as the mixologists make excellent drinks and friendly conversation. Sitting at the bar after 7 PM, you can watch the DJs spin the platters. If you have a larger group or just like to eat alfresco, the patio is perfect. The green salsa they provide is extremely mild, but they do have a variety of hot sauces on hand. It's worth mentioning that even a humble plate of tacos is served on nice ceramic dishes, along with good flatware and napkins.The espresso martini cheesecake is creamy and delicious, and the portion is really generous. The staff seem to enjoy working at the Overland. The servers work hard to make sure your order is to your liking, and food comes out pretty fast. There's a good sense of teamwork among them. The staff is also accommodating about seating or any special requests. We've been there on a busy Friday night, and on a Sunday evening and late night. The Overland is always at least moderately busy, so reservations are strongly recommended. The city of Redlands should be very proud of this establishment. Go and have fun!

The drinks were good overall. I ordered a couple of nonalcoholic drinks, and they were refreshing and flavorful. We also tried the cheese fries and the fried onion, and both were really tasty. Their website specifically says they offer reservations for parties of 10 or more, based on availability. I called about 30 to 45 minutes before arriving and asked if they could accommodate our group. The gentleman I spoke with told me yes, to come in and check in when we arrived, and that he would start getting a table ready for us. When we got there, apparently nothing had been communicated to the hostess. What made it worse was that the same guy then denied ever telling me on the phone that he would get a table ready. If they couldn't accommodate us, that would have been completely fine. Just tell me that when I call and we'll go somewhere else. Instead, we loaded up six kids, drove over based on what we were told, and then were basically turned away. We asked for the manager hoping they could at least help figure something out, but unfortunately the manager wasn't helpful either and offered no real resolution. Mistakes and miscommunications happen. What bothered me was denying what was said instead of simply owning the mistake and trying to make it right. We would have happily gone somewhere else from the beginning had they just been upfront with us. Very poor communication and customer service.
