We always make a point to stop in here whenever we are in Evanston. I'm so disappointed that there are no World Markets located by me, but I'll stop in this store any time! I was so excited (and dismayed) that they already have quite a wonderful selection of Christmas ornaments (it's October) and staff were busily setting up seasonal displays with foodstuffs, decor. I stoped by on NYE to pick up some pantry items. Thank goodness for the free one hour parking in the garage because there was nothing upfront. I think everyone had the same idea because a lot of the staples to make a charcuterie board were already gone. I ended up picking stone ground matcha tea, small rug for the mud room and dog butts fridge magnets! The store is large enough so it's easy to social distance. It is a great place to shop for int'l foods, coffee, teas, etc. They also sell some kitchenware, bar tools and such. Been shopping at this location exclusively. I cannot comment on their other locations such as the ones in the Chicago-area. This location, at least, as stopped selling so many liquor items as before. You can still purchase local and not-so-local craft beers and wine but many of their hard liquors are gone. I used to be able to get stuff like Japanese whiskey or gin. I love dropping in here whenever I'm in the area. Nice place to kill time before a movie or to walk around with a friend after lunch. It's a decent size store and there's always new things to see. I especially appreciate the wide selection of international food and snacks that I can't get anywhere else. Beats buying it over Amazon and having to wait. Recently went over the Thanksgiving holidays and they had an activity where they hid bells throughout the store and gave out prizes. How fun! read more

They also have sales sometimes too. I like the German chocolate kinder as well as Cadbury's. They have a cool section of bath and home stuff too. It looks pretty. Here's the truth: I've walked past this store countless times. The whole time I thought it's just for home furnishings. Boy, was I wrong. When I mentioned to North Shore Community Director Angela S that I have never been to any of their stores, she was in disbelief and strongly urged me to check this location out. She promised that I would love it in there and she was 100% right :) I got lost in their world. I spent a ton of time perusing the different sections: beauty, food and drink, home decor, etcetera. They've got cards and stationery too. I found a snow globe pop-up card that was perfect for my friend's birthday! See my pic. The biggest surprise to me was their exclusive collection of Hello Kitty/Sanrio merch. Hello Kitty/Sanrio was a big part of my childhood so it automatically evokes nostalgia. Was I thiiiiis close to purchasing a Hello Kitty/Kikkoman soy sauce? Yes. Do I need to be financially responsible? Also yes. Adulting can be hard y'all. Bumping this up by one star. I'm still annoyed by my previous experience (see my earlier review), which resulted in me driving 40 minutes to another World Market to return a $7 item since the Evanston store refused to do the return, but I had a pleasant customer service experience over the past few days, so I did want to mention the positives. At the Yelp 15 bash this past weekend, World Market furnished a lounge area. While I was there, I saw a rug I liked on one of the displays. there wasn't a tag on it, but there was the SKU on the back so I took a photo of it so I could look it up later. I messaged the Evanston store on Instagram to see if I could buy it from the event/pick it up the next morning. That wasn't possible, but they put it on hold for me and even gave me a small discount since it had been a floor model at the event. I appreciated that, and picking it up in store yesterday was super easy and painless, and the rug looks super cute in my bedroom. read more

This World Market location is great. Located in downtown Evanston is easy to get to, but parking is limited to street parking or a parking garage a block away. The selection at this store is good and the employees are helpful and very nice. We've shopped here three times in a month and always greeted with a smile and hello. World Market offers furniture, home accessories, some clothing, and food(snacks, drinks, alcohol). It's a fun store to find some eclectic pieces. read more

Another Yelp Event for the books! What an amazing experience and event. Well put together and super educational. The BINGO activity was definitely a hit! I learned so much in such a little time. With this being my first introduction to the event, I definitely can say I learned a lot and I enjoyed myself. Cynthia did an amazing job assisting with the BINGO. Doug was great with the wine. MJ shared some thoughtful trinkets you could use in your life size advent calendar. Ivon and that Hubert Lemonda?!.... chileeeeeee you must get you a sample. There was an amazing guy covering the smore section. Because I didn't eat caramel, peanut butter or dark chocolate, he made me a personalize smore with Nutella and Marsh Fluff. I actually am a huge fan of this World Market! With free 1-hour parking in the public garage across the street on Maple, this World Market is large, clean, extremely organized, and the staff are super helpful. It also seems as if they offer more of a variety in their selections! I really love their food section, as I always stock up on the Mam Papaul's Red Velvet mix, as well as the miniature Tabasco sauce (just for novelty sake!). I used to come here for cheap picture frames, but the last few years I don't bother with anything but the food section. I live alone and don't cook a ton, so I like the miniature bottles of garlic oil, balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, et al. Those little items make great stocking stuffers, too--tiny jars of preserves and hot fudge and lemon curd and clotted cream, bottles of olive oil and hot sauce, various salamis and summer sausages. This year I found hummus in a tube. Hmmm. I also scored some sort of special British candy bar that my girlfriend likes, called Crunchie. She made me try a piece, which was terrible, but it made her happy to find those in her Christmas stocking, so it was worth it. They had lots of other strange foreign candy. read more

A store must be like the world... it must contain everything! World Market literally has everything. Somehow, everything they have seem so useful. The store is brightly lit, clean, and not too squished for the amount of stuff they fit into a moderately sized space. The best part is that the prices are very reasonable. Kitchen gadgets. My one weakness. A lot of strange gadgets I saw there for the first time, I tried to resist buying them by telling myself they're cheaper online, and I'd order it from Amazon when I get home (which I won't, thereby effectively preventing my impulse purchase)... but it's the same price as Amazon! There are rarely instances where I found this to be true, but unfortunately for my wallet, World Market is just too damn convincing. The food selections are extensive for every type. So many coffees, versions of nutella, international sauces, premium chocolates, and whatever else you could possibly find interesting. There's just so much to explore. I can spend forever in this store, but gosh, it is such a money sink for non essential stuff... I don't see the need to come here normally, but surprisingly it's actually somewhere FUN to go shopping for things (especially when they have coupons), or just to explore the possibilities of things you could buy that you didn't know existed before. And if you see nothing interesting... well you must be a very worldly person. Hmph. read more

Friendly and helpful customer service. I think they sell out of stuff here often, so if you see something you like, I say go for it. Overall, they have plenty of things to look at. From furniture to food to wine to home good to knick knacks. Also, they are always sending out those 10% off and usually have a great special going on. This is a nice and spacious worldarket I must say. I did like the fact that it is spacious but it is hard to find parking except in the street. The prices of course are like other WOrld Markets, but they do have a good variety of items that maybe you don't see in other spots. The staff is really nice and know their items and one of the things I did appreciate is that they will check on other stores if an item is not available. Food items here are plentiful and "different" from various regions of the world so you can always try something new and not be afraid of spending tons of money on it. I think that if you want to try something different as far as items, this is the place to be. You can see Tuscan furniture and even Bohemian items that you will probably never see in other stores. Also a big collection of Buddahs and Indian artifacts if this is what you like. Im really amazed at the quality and the items they have. The location is nice since it is in the heart of Evanston and there are plenty of other spots to shop in also, but this one, hmmmm I am literally impressed with the location. This World Market is probably one of the best I've visited in the Chicagoland. They don't typically get a heavy traffic, even though it's in the heart of downtown Evanston. Downtown Evanston is pretty serene and walking-friendly. The CTA Davis purple line station and the Metra station are very close by. My choice of transportation is the CTA bus. CTA 93 bus (Dodge/California) goes all the to CTA Kimball Brown line station. Although it takes awhile riding on the bus to the terminal stop, I like this World Market location and think it's worth the trip. The sales associates are friendly and will genuinely check on you (not just pass by). I received a new coupon ($10 off $30 purchase) today and wanted to re-stock some of my ramen and snacks. My strategy to experience more savings is to purchase items that are already on sale. They also have a little section of "close-out" items offering at cheaper prices. Nevertheless, please check the expiration date on each item so that you're not consuming ten (10) packs of ramen in one (1) night! You will get sick...without a doubt! I like World Market. In general, I always come in with a coupon. The savings are incredible with such resource available. However, without a coupon, most of their stuff is no longer at a good purchasing price-point. read more

I go to the Century 12 movie theater every month and walk past this store all the time. Never would I have thought it would be filled so many wonderful items! I thought it was some ordinary home store but when I visited this store yesterday I was surprised to see there was more than meets the eye. They had a cute section in the back for food items, a mini section with mini supplies such as a mini microphone, a mini tea pot, etc it was the cutest thing! There were different wine bottles and I ended up buying this German Mulled Wine which was delicious! It reminded me of the German christmas market downtown called Chriskindl. I ordered a chair to be delivered to Cost Plus, and I received multiple phone calls earlier today that it was ready for pick up. It was near closing when I arrived at the store, and the employees bluntly informed me that I should come back tomorrow. They seemed flat out confused when I told them I was here for the chair, which is surprising considering how many times they called me earlier today. I was really disappointed by this service--both staff members I spoke to were rude and now I have to return to the store tomorrow to pick up my chair. read more

Love world market product and stores. But I am having a horrible experience with their customer service for an online order! I've been in contact with them about a return/refund no less that 6 times over 4 months and still don't have my money back. Started with an email that got a response 10 days later that said. " email us again if this is still a problem". As of 3 weeks ago was told a supervisor processes my refund and I should see it in 3-5 days. Just called and was told my refund was cancelled because they were missing information!! No one called talk to me when it was cancelled. Now saying a supervisor will once again get it taken care of. One day, I woke, well... never went to sleep, and I said to myself in the morning, "Self, let's go to World Market." Since, I'm sane, I didn't respond. But, my self did oblige to my wishes. I'm usually a regular patron of the World Market on Broadway, but didn't feel like dealing with that area that day. I decided to finally try this one in Evanston for a change of pace. Boy, was I happy for that decision. While the Broadway one is cool, it in no way compares to the worldliness of the Evanston one. I initially came with the intent to buy some everyday plates. After 20 minutes of being in the store, I noticed I hadn't even journeyed over to the tableware section. What held me hostage was the pantry area with all types of products that made me struggle with my predetermined shopping budget. PoPchips in flavors Thai Sweet Chili and Sweet Potato, the cutest little jars of various artisan condiments like honey specifically for tea, Red Velvet Pancake mix, and many other things I hadn't seen elsewhere. Especially, not at the Broadway World Market. The music had me singing aloud. At least 4 staff members asked me cheerily if I needed any help. I was really enjoying my shopping. I will, however, admit that their prices do seem to be higher than the Broadway location. Whoever says the city is more expensive than the burbs hasn't been in Evanston. Still, I like this place better. It's an extremely short walk from the Davis Purple Line station and many other establishments. Let's not forget how close it is to the lake as well! I foresee a stop here to fill out a lunch basket for a picnic by the water in my near Summer future. The tableware is less at the Broadway location, and they have a better selection. So, I'll still go there for that. Pantry items, though... I never noticed until now that the lack of diversity in Lakeview is reflected in that location's offerings. Evanston World Market will be my go-to for a wide selection of worldly pantry products from now on. read more

I don't know what happened to me...but...what the heck happened to me? I turned into a nut today when I stopped in. So I never have time to shop. I mean I never ever take the time to enjoy shopping. I'm the kind of shopper that typically buys because I need something. Today I stopped in after a meeting and I didn't want to leave. I mean it's World Market for pete sake, but I started snapping a ton of photos of things I liked, and you'd think I was from another planet. Between the dining room furniture sale, the comfy sofa and chairs I sat in, and the fun brightly colored outdoor furniture, I didn't want to leave. I was impressed! Perhaps I was avoiding going back to work? I don't know, but they have some really cuuuute things in here. I discovered some solid furniture pieces and was pleasantly surprised. There were some wobbly chairs that made me fear for the buyer who gets roped into taking those home, but the outdoor furniture made me wish for spring. Real spring that is. Happy warm spring! My parking meter was running out so I had to hurry, but I have to tell you I will be running back to this store real soon. This is one of my favorite stores to walk around. Great variety of wine and beer, free coffee and tea samples in the back, and an amazing and interesting candy selection-- though the chocolate section has been shrinking recently. The bathrooms are even clean! There is no describing the multitude of STUFF that World Market sells. Practically all of it falls under the "crap you don't need" category (think Palahniuk's "slave to one's nesting instinct"...). But it's nice to mill around and touch stuff. Aside from clearance shelves, it's not as cheap as it seems-- you could especially find legit "ethnic" things (like a bottle of Kikkoman) for significantly cheaper at an Asian grocery. Call me a flower-child socialist, but yes, a big company commodifying international culture so blatantly does make me a little uncomfortable. Is India only the sum of its textiles? I'm not going to tell anyone to boycott World Market, nor am I going to myself, but before jumping to warm conclusions about your rug being happily hand-woven by chanting circles of identical aboriginal women in colorful headscarves, I think we need to stay responsible and keep in mind that World Market is not a fair trade store, even if it pretends to be (contrast: Ten Thousand Villages on Main & Sherman). read more

Cost Plus World Market is Pier 1 Imports on STEROIDS! I almost everything in this store, from soy-based coconut scented candles to pre-made curry sauces and magnetic spice containers. Their furniture is lovely and rustic and not as expensive as say, Crate & Barrel. Even if you're not into "ethnic" furnishings, there's something for everyone. I do mean EVERYONE. Need a gift for mom? They have cards and natural bath products. How about affordable glassware and platters for a dinner party? Oh, Fido can always use another plush toy too. There's also something in every corner that will catch your attention. Oh look, SRIRACHA and CHEAP WINE! This is one of the few businesses I will miss dearly when I move into Chicago in a few months. Where to even begin? This place is my absolute obsession. It is virtually impossible for me to enter the store without leaving with more bags than I can carry. They simply have everything!!! The wine selection is amazing. They carry wines from all over the world and every type you can imagine and most for under $25. In fact, they carry the most amazingly delicious sangria for only $7 per bottle. They are also the only place where I could find Pacific Rim Sweet Reisling which is sooo great (and cheap). They also carry a wide variety of sake and imported beers. World Market also has the most wonderful selection of imported foods (and great deals on fair trade coffees), dishes, bedding, home decor, candles, bath products, artwork, gifts, accessories such as jewlery and purses, etc all from all over the world. There seriously isnt a single thing this place doesn't have and everything is so beautiful and artfully made at a very reasonable price. They even have cheap cute dog beds and a cat bed shaped like a sushi roll! what not to love? If you have never been to world market, you must go. You will not regret it!!! read more

If you are familiar with Cost Plus World Market (CPWM) then my quick review is that this location will have all the same stuff as all the others but seems very understaffed. We really thought only one guy was working in the whole store and he was very slow (though very friendly too) on checkout. After the line grew to about 10 people, another employee magically appeared where none had previously been spotted in the store, and she opened a new lane. Stuff is interesting and affordable here though this location may have more junky toys than other places. Being from New Orleans it's funny to see blinky rings, blinky space guns, and a couple other things like that which I've personally bought and thrown at Mardi Gras for people to catch for free (to them). While they are selling here for $2.99 each and that's cheap, we'd get about a dozen of these for the same price through our krewe, and my daughter has caught so many we get rid of most of them.... Luckily my Mom hands them out for Halloween since kids here don't know all the joys of Mardi Gras. So trick or treat in Rogers Park and you may just get some neat new trinkets you would have otherwise had to buy here at CPWM for $3. :) read more

My mother and I have been frequent customers of this World Market for years now. Never have I gotten bad service nor have I had issues purchasing items of all sizes from this location. On NYE I purchased an area rug for curbside pickup. I came to this location two days after to pick it up but decided to go in and grab it myself because the item was on the larger size and wanted to save an employee from the headache it could cause. I entered the store and it was obviously on the busier side. I saw the pickup location and a gentleman working the area, so I decided to ask if I could pick up my online purchase. He was overall extremely rude and clearly didn't want to be there, I told him it was an area rug and he replied "of course it is". I proceeded to tell him that I did not need his help and would just like to pick it up. He handed me the rug and turned around. This associate's people skills need to be addressed because not only was his attitude SH!TTY but he actually made me feel bad for going in to pick it up myself? I bought some last minute gifts at World Market in Evanston on Christmas Eve. World Market has been my go-to place for that for years. Unfortunately, they had run out of bags, and I wasn't carrying a backpack or any shopping bags. So they offered me a reusable bag for $3. It's a trivial amount of money, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I wrote to their customer service address and was told to contact the store. I really expected they'd apologize and send a gift card with a token amount. Overall, not great service. UPDATE: I wrote to them again and they were good enough to send a gift code for online purchases, so bumping up a star. read more

I've shopped here without incident, but I went today with a few friends to look around. While browsing near the cash register, the woman working there asked us if we were going to buy anything. We told her no, and continued to look around. When we were on our way out, we thanked her, but then she said that next time we had to buy something. Oh, how I had been sad: to be thousands of miles from Europe, and miss out on all the Christmas candy days! Well, no more! This place has every kind of European chocolate you could dream of, even a decent Christmas selection and advent calendars! Beyond chocolate, you can get all sorts of Asian foods (although I have a suspicion that one might get these imports much cheaper in an Asian grocery store in Chicago), wines from around the globe, imported food brands you woulnd't find elsewhere, and a ton of furniture, decorative junk, and more overpriced Asian imports. I love this place! The back half of the store has hundreds of bottles of wine with little blurbs beneath each one describing their flavor, bouquet, and finish. The rest of the store is decor a la Pier 1 and chic, high end (read: snobbish) food items that you'd expect to find in a Williams-Sonoma. I don't care how good it is, you shouldn't pay more than $5 for a jar of mustard unless it can make the sandwich by itself! P.S.
