When I drive by all of the myriad dojo's around, I can't help but think how lucky we got that our little 3 year old ended up here. This place is like the karate equivalent of Cheers. I can't say enough about the senseis; they are so kind and good with the kids. Watching them teach, I wonder if they all have their degrees in child development. I have been going to World Championship Karate for over a year and I have to say that the facility and instructors here are top notch. Every instructor is very knowledgeable and excellent at teaching. No matter what level of skill you may be at, they will be able to help you improve and develop your skills. I am part part of Grappling for MMA class meeting Mon and Wed evening and Sat morning. This is a new class offered at WCK, but I have been training with the instructor Alex for over 4 years. I started out being interested in mixed martial arts and wanted to try it out. Four years training under Alex, and I am now very very confident in my wrestling, Jiu jitsu, and all grappling skills. Its a tough sport but I have become tough along with it. I've also met a lot of good people who will be lifelong friends. If you are interested I highly suggest you check it out. A big concern of mine when starting this sport was the super high costs at most gyms. However the price for value I've gotten is unbeatable here. read more

After trying several other dojo's out from Tustin to Long Beach we settled on WCK after a friend recommended it to us. There is NO place like it. Search if you must but please enroll your child at WCK. If you are looking for a belt factory...this is not the place. The Senseis take great time and care with each student. Being a teacher myself (education, not karate) I am very aware of how adults interact with children. Sensei Raymond and Sensei Steve are incredibly gifted in working with children of all ages, young adults and adults alike. They are intuitive and know what each student needs to work on whether it be self confidence, respect, responsibility, self control etc. The dojo is a GREAT balance of fun and discipline. As a former teacher, I know how challenging it is to command respect from a group of children and still have fun, laugh and be disciplined while teaching a real curriculum. Well, they do it all here. My 6-year-old daughter is now a yellow belt, and boy has she worked hard for it. This is not a dojo where they will just keep testing your little one to make money. The kids here are all having fun and learning to be respectful and focused. Most importantly, every sensei here is excellent at what they do. They are so fantastic with the children. I like that they always have enough senseis and student helpers on the floor to match how many students there are. I can see that the classes are growing (for good reason), and the kids always get attention from more than one sensei. My daughter has really turned around. She attends twice a week, and I think it's definitely recommended to keep up with the learning. She feels successful because there are stripes and milestones along the way. It keeps her motivated. Another reviewer mentioned that all the senseis remember the kids names. It is true! Not only that, but I believe they all seem to remember where each student is in their progression. They are so good at positive reinforcement and individual recognition. I take the cardio kickboxing classes here on occasion, and it is also a really great workout for a very reasonable price. You get a little bit of everything - cardio, bodyweight strength, abs, etc. I've recommended WCK to many of my friends, and it so worth stopping in for their free trial.
