Michael was so helpful today when I came in because my WorkInTexas.com password wasn't working. He got my password reset and then i had some questions for him about other resources such as career counselors and typing tests, etc. He knew the answer to every question and made me feel less stressed about searching for a job! He even gave me a direct phone number to their center since they don't usually publish it on their website so next time I have a question I can just call. Btw this review is specific to the resource center and I have strong feelings regarding the phone system and unemployment insurance process... but that's the demon side of the organization. read more

I like that they are fully equipped with everything from an old school fax machine to state of the art scan-email/printer/copier. They have all the resources you need when it comes to job searches, resources and events; but baby the staff is a hit or miss. Some of the staff is super helpful, and I've seen how compassionate they are walking around asking if everyone is ok or in need of help and assisting them. Then there are some (especially the ones behind the desk) they can be a lil "spicy" and what I mean is rude as hell! Like you're bothering them. They don't know how to acknowledge you at least and politely ask that you give them a second. I literally witnessed one give a customer an attitude because he stated that he needed to print his resume and had already signed in. For the most part it easy to get assistance from the ones walking around and if you know what you're doing technology wise this place is perfect; but if you're older just beware of the unwelcoming attitudes when you first walk in/or have to go to the next desk to get signed in. Trying to get child care services from them is like pulling teeth. A lot of misinformation given from their staff, "lost" paperwork, lack of PROFESSIONALISM and WAITING. How do you expect anyone to work if they have to come to your office multiple times for mistakes made on YOUR end or stuff just simply over looked. Meanwhile every time I visit this location individuals who represent "child care services" are standing around on phones talking when they could be processing paperwork for I don't know .. the job they get paid for. I've been on the list for two years and haven't gotten anything but a run around I guess I'm not the right skin color to get helped or approved . Don't waste your time calling either they will tell you whatever to get you off the phone and your emails will go to spam . read more

I normally go to the East location cause it's closer to me and everyone is really nice, However, I went this location for the first and hope to be last time because I needed to take a class since it will be a while before I'll get to attend again for a while. I say the last time because one of the staff members hitting on me and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable, Worst part about it got there too early and didn't know how to get away from him. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Theres all types of resources and help when a person needs it. They offer free training for trades, if you qualify. As well as help with cloths, tools, and whatever else you may need along the way. Mrs. Torres is a career Counselour and only wants to help a person succeed. Amazing place, amazing resources. I suppose they operate within accepted guidelines. I used to go there when I was looking for work and under unemployment. And I didn't particularly like their micro-managing job seekers then. According to one review they make job seekers sign in to use the computer and watch and make sure that they I guess are strictly looking for work. I used to go there to get faxes sent other than that; I pretty much stayed away. I am now retired and do not need to work. But on a personal level even a few years ago I thought that they were looking over people shoulders. I do think that TWFC is more employer friendly than job seekers. I did not like the know it all attitude they had toward people under unemployment. I realize that is part of the deal. I am just glad I no longer have to deal with it. My situation was unique since I get retirement from the state they off-setted. it And they do the same to veterans. And TWFC officials were not sympathetic toward that. I ended up getting around 35% ($150 deducted) of my claim because of that This is how they value workers who put in the time to work for retirement. It too bad that their accepted guidelines do not allow for respecting the job seekers. Finally you have to be registered with TWFC work force to look for jobs if you receive unemployment But, any problem you have with your unemployment claim you have to deal with the unemployment unit. And both of them act like they are not working for the same employment agency.Please no response back. I am not currently looking And so it goes. They also make claims that they help seniors does off-setting their pension qualify. They also do this to veterans who they claim to help. And then they unapologetically say that they can not help it is law. GMAB! An interesting aside was that while I was on unemployment they made us go through a mandatory meeting for what they call TWC jargon re-employment meeting. I was not happy with that and asked an official joking if they were going to lock us in the room so we couldn't leave. Well they almost did. There were some vendors out there and they invited them in. And it was almost like they thought we were day labor. Some, employer wanted a driver. Now you cannot just hand over car keys to anyone to ask them to drive commercially and yet that was almost what he was doing. Unless someone had a commercial license and all their papers they could not do that. Some TWC official got in and change my settings so I would get more job alerts which made me mad since they can not answer what I did on various jobs in a lot of detail. TWC is not entirely efficient, because of the offset from my claims they were often late sending out my check and I had to call in. They demand a lot but don't give it. They used to put on a job seekers application that they had to be on a bus line but they quit doing that probably because they want to tell employers that they have a lot of job seekers. Even though a person without a car can not work on a highway between Austin and Round rock where they have high-tech companies. And so it goes. Here something I got from Ask a Librarian about high tech companies and there being on a bus route. This is what I've found on some of the top tech companies in the Austin area. WFS has the best job bank online. Getting a job this year is so hard (where are the great amounts of jobs Austin is supposed to have, or the high paying jobs, anyway?) The staff at WFS are very supportive. Your online application, resume and email do not get forwarded to every Monster.com spin-off that is around as it is completely confidential. The physical offices offer PCs, faxes and copiers if you need to use those for applying for jobs. The staff are really patient and helpful, too. This place went from bad to horrible!! It's put up barrier ropes--not at all ADA compliant (people in wheelchairs, people with vision impairments...etc stumble and trip) The staff is spending so much time hounding people about check-in that 'finding a job' itself has actually become a BIG pain. Before you only had to worry about the staff themselves taking your personal posessions. Now you also have to worry about your job search time being squandered with 'check in procedures' instead of just going up to a computer and immediately starting in. Ontop of cutting hours of operation, the new center floor staff have absolutely zero people skills. These people don't know or care at all how to deal with you even if you are the one who is working to get a good job. They wil mouth off to you and lie, guaranteed! After the center added a 'social networking' seminar--finally explaining the appropriate ways to use facebook, twiter and other social media sites to look for and get jobs, a brand new staffer patrols the floor harassing any customer who is using any social networking site for any reason! Huh?? This does not even follow the center's own updated computer/resource use policy of only permitting job search activities. Where on earth did this illiterate woman even come from in the first place? Why was she authorized for a job while others desperately need employment. Your tax dollars at 'workforce' folks!! It's quicker just to go to a public library and shoot off a couple of resumes via email.You only log onto those computers and the people there are good about leaving job searchers alone to work in uninterrupted peace. Very busy center with available access to computers, Internet, fax and copy machines. The front information desk is helpful to answer questions. They offer a multitude of classes and services as well as job fairs. It's best to come in instead of calling because sometimes it gets so busy they might not be able to pick up. Also since this is a public area make sure to disinfect, keep an eye on your things and keep your cell phone on silent. read more
