I continue to feel very conflicted about which star rating to pick. I was here yesterday for an…read moreappointment I scheduled two months ago only to wait 30 minutes to be seen by a nurse and an additional 20 minutes to be seen by the doctor-- only to be told the procedure I was coming in for is no longer done at this facility. Dr. Darlyne Johnson is amazing. I wish she had a private practice or worked elsewhere because this place does not deserve her. She was friendly, familiar with my chart, knowledgeable and very reasonable. Today I arrived at 10:03 for my 10:00am appointment. At 10:35 I was told they needed a urine test, and after my results I would be seen. If I had been told from the start I needed a urine test, I would have chugged the 40oz bottle of water I brought with me and asked to have the test as soon as possible (to move things along). Additionally, I was pulled aside by the nurse who informed me the dr's notes indicated she wanted me to have a test before I came back. In reality when I saw the doctor-- yesterday, she told me I could come back today as long as I get the test within the next three months. Everyone here is wicked nice, smart and courteous, it's mind boggling that such smart, kind people cannot seem to figure out how to run an efficient and organized establishment. As said before, I arrived at 10:03 for my 10:00am appointment, I was seen at 10:50 and walked out of the doors at 10:53. This place is clean and well kempt. It's poorly run and they could use both a group psychotherapist to help improve communication between staff and an office manager to improve the efficiency and timeliness of keeping appointments on track. I'm already stressed out because I'm in graduate school and at the very end of finals, came out of my way for a 4 minute appointment, only to wait an hour... jeeze, talk about anxiety provoking! All in all, I would refer other women to Dr.Johnson. I would suggest clarifying any additional information or questions during check-in and a simple reiteration and emphasis that as a client your time also matters.

Inadequate care and followup. I was hospitalized with a condition that the hospital considered…read morelife threatening and the immediate issue was addressed there. As a patient of South Shore Women's Health, I was visited by a doctor from there while I was in the hospital, and she presented a couple options for handling the underlying problem. After discharge, I had a follow up appointment with the same doctor and raised concerns about medication side effects and whether the root cause was fully addressed. She dismissed that with "okay, we'll keep an eye on it" and rushed through the rest of the appointment that lasted no more than 5 minutes. She was out of there so fast, I had to follow her out into the hall to try to ask my other question, but she was already headed into a different patient room. So rather than trying to (literally) pursue the question, I just switched to a different similarly sized practice, where that doctor properly evaluated the problem, made detailed recommendations, and ended up solving it with some additional surgery. I don't know if the inadequate care from South Shore Women's health was due to time pressure from the practice or to the inexperience of the doctor, who had only a couple years of experience but, either way, it is dangerous and unacceptable.

They sent her an email with my information, and told me to expect a response the next day. I never received a response. I called every day for a week asking for an update, and every day the answer was that she hasn't gotten around to her email yet. Eventually, I called another practice that scheduled me *on the spot* for an 8 week ultrasound the following week, and an 11 week in office visit with an award winning highly regarded doctor.

When I scheduled a appointment, it was postponed to another day without anyone telling me about it. The second time I came for an appointment, but they told me that my visit was not on that day, but on some other day 2 weeks later, although the letter from them indicated the time and date of the day when I came to them and no I never received any other letter.Nobody wants to solve the problem, the staff turns around and leaves. Terrible management. I waited in pain for 2 weeks, but today my appointment was rescheduled again. Managers don't send reminders. How important it is for a woman to solve her pain problem in a short time, and not wait 2 weeks and it's not a fact that you'll see a doctor. They will schedule an appointment for you and you will never know until they call you and tell you that you missed your appointment. Complete mess.

When I had serious symptoms that could not be explained she persisted in running tests, even though they were all coming back negative. It turned out that I did have a malignant tumor but thanks to her persistence it was stage 1 and I did not need any further treatment after my surgery. That's what a great doctor does.

She put my mind at ease many times and despite having a busy practice, she always listened to and carefully answered all of my questions. She takes the time to get to know her patients and I have always felt that she genuinely has my best interest in mind. I appreciate her rational, practical, and common sense approach. However, she's serious and ultra-cautious when it comes to looking after her patients. At the end of both pregnancies, my blood pressure was high and she was very firm and clear about how serious it was. She had me come back in to see her every other day until I delivered to make sure the baby and I were okay. I have been so insistent on having Dr. Mann as my doctor that I kept driving all the way to Cambridge for my second pregnancy, even though we had moved 30 minutes away. Just recently, she moved her office to Brookline and I am driving even further because I trust her implicitly and can't imagine going to another ob/gyn!
