Super cool party store! They have a lot of cool stuff that's really fun to look at, and the cake decorating side of the store has a lot of useful tools. Service is super helpful, and there is a lot of variety in terms of decorations. If you are planning a themed anything, you should come here. I was able to get some fun supplies for a bday party, although supplemented by things from other stores, so it's not a one stop shop place for certain themes. They have helium balloons in tons of colors, and you can call before coming in to ask about specific things that they might have in stock. I think the owner also does custom birthday cakes and cupcakes that look very nice. I forget about this place because I don't live near it, but when I'm in a rush or don't want 20 of something from Amazon, this place often delivers. read more

My husband and I rented a helium tank for his bday. For a security deposit, they wrote our cc number on a piece of paper When i asked where the papers are kept and was told in an envelope in the front of the store. Found out it would be in a place right by the front door where no employee monitors. This was not okay with me, so i asked if they could keep it in the cash register and the young teenage filling out the paper kept rolling her eyes not understanding my concerns. One employee told me they would put it in the locked cash register. When we returned the tank and asked for the paper with the cc number. we found out they disregarded our concerns and put it in the unsceured envelope up front. This is the best party store ever! I discovered them last year when we were looking for Fourth of July decorations and they had everything we needed. We came back at Halloween for costumes and decorations. Then on St. Patrick's Day, same thing - they did not disappoint. We got green hats, St. Patrick's Day socks for the kids, fun temporary tattoos, green feather boa's, etc. - everything we needed for our party! So happy I found this store. My initial reaction was to try party city for my friends surprise birthday balloons, but their helium had a "24 hour" lifespan which sucks! It wouldn't have worked with our schedule so I found this store instead. I'm a little ashamed because I should have searched for a local option from the getgo... Anyway, bought them over the phone and told them when I'd be there to pick them up. They were ready when they needed to be. They looked awesome and lasted forever (her birthday was on the 25th of January and TODAY, February 17th, my friend told me that they fell to the floor). This store is great! I've come here many times for parties supplies but this Saturday I had the best experience. I had gone to 4 different stores trying to find safety pins for the wharf to wharf to attach my race bib and no one had them. At this point I had to start thinking out of the box and thought maybe Woodworm *might* have some. So, I went in and asked and amidst all of their busyness (since they were making all the balloon arches for the race) they were able to find me several safety pins and gave them to me for free!! I have never been to this store before and will never come back. I called ahead of time to make sure they had what I needed and was very specific that I needed 3 matching headpieces. They assured they me they did. I drove to Capitola in rush hour traffic because the show for the group of kids was the next morning. Half hour+ in traffic to get there and I get there. There is only one not three. No NO HELP, NO SUGGESTIONS for something else. The lady who was working didn't have a care in the world. And now we don't have our costume AND I wasted an hour of my day. This is a smaller yet bursting with the party locally owned supply store and specialty cake shop right off the highway in the capitola. Unusually for an area business there are no parking issues at this location. It's really easy to access, and there are more then enough spots. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but in the area parking isn't a given. This is a medium ish sized store with enough stuff for a large ish sized store. The shelves are set close and they are just loaded with enough whimsical cute party stock to make anyone's day. They've started some marketing as a cake supply spot as well, in real terms this means that one of the employee's (Beth Paiva) runs a cake decorating on demand case here. It's just to the left once you enter and while it will carry useful things like Bavarian cream filling and cake decorating accessories the real role is on demand specialty party cakes. She is a master of her craft-her Halloween cake last year was terrifyingly realistic (yet edible. The cake itself was awesome but the rats and things were just shaped sugar. Kids liked it though.) and if you are on the market for a wedding cake I feel comfortable strongly recommending her. If you are needing party help-setup, takedown, catering, decoration woodworm's can pretty much do it all. If you are just needing some décor, balloons (the balloon counter is pretty much the center of the store) tableware, favors, stuff to put in grab bags or piñatas (or grab bags and piñatas themselves), cards, candles, gags or pretty much any other do it yourself party related thing this place has you covered. They have themed stuff as well like star wars or Thomas the tank engine. Pricing is a bit more then the dollar store-but you can get much better stuff(also a better selection of stuff) and compares very favorably to party city standard overcharges. The woman in charge/owner refused to honor a price that was marked on the entire stock of an item. The actual price was about $8 more than what was marked. I ended up still purchasing the rest of my items and spending $50. I try to buy local whenever possible, but in an age of being able to purchase most party items online at much cheaper than a locally owned non chain store, you'd think they'd have better customer service. We had a mishap when ordering string lights with our other vendor for our wedding reception. 3 days before our big day i sent a frantic email to woodworm (after hours mind you) to see if they would be able to provide and set up string lights at our venue, and within 10 minutes i got a response. Brie assured me she would be able to take care of our lighting! It was a relief and I cant thank Brie and her team enough, for not only getting the lights up and making our venue shine, but for the piece of mind her prompt response gave. I have to say, I am a little disappointed in Woodworm Party Store. I understand that Halloween is a big holiday for them and they have a lot on their plates there. But with it being so busy, you would think that they would have people at the check stands. We got there at 10am, so only an hour after they opened. At the SC location, that place was a total messy disaster and no one at the registers. They didn't have what I was looking for in the cake section, so I decided to try out the Capitola location. That was way cleaner & people were actually at the counter, but they too didn't have the candy melts I was looking for. In my opinion, they neglect most of the store if it doesn't involve Halloween during the season. And they are not consistent with keep stuff on the selves. I can see one thing, and decide to come back at another time. When I get there on a later date, it is no where to be found. read more

Not Impressed, these guys don't take returns on stuff purchased around haloween. To be fair they do have notices around saying "all sales are final" but it appears some stuff is returnable and some is not. They are supposed to warn you when the purchases are made but in my wifes case they did not and the owner was unwilling to take a return and offer store credit. A bad decision because that way we would likely have come back !! So be warned buying from here is no better than spirit stores . IF u want to be able to return/exchange like most stores best buy online from somewhere like Amazon where they have a more reasonable return policy and cost less ! read more

I've been to Woodworm quite a few times, and everyone working is always very friendly and helpful, but the other day, they went above and beyond, and I just had to share my appreciation! I only had to pick up one item from Woodworm, and my 3 month old baby had JUST fallen asleep in her carseat (after crying for awhile), so I almost didn't stop in. I figured I would just call and ask if someone would be kind enough to bring the item out to my car and I could just pay them in cash, and she obliged! This is one of those local Santa Cruz gems. They offer a great variety of costumes, unique costume accessories, and solid party stuff. And they carry some really cute products like boho style party decorations (some favorites I've found--mermaids, lemons, rainbows, llamas, cactuses), they have good piñatas, and of course, balloons!
