By the time we reached this place, we felt we earned every drink and nibble of food. By the time we ventured here, it was my 7th day of driving on the "correct" side of the road for the first time in my life, so the route here was certainly the final boss which required all my driving skills and full focus. The food was delicious and felt like something home cooked by your grandparents. Although I get the impression from locals that this is kind of a touristy place, I did not get that vibe from the atmosphere here. There were people from out of town asking about the dancing show, which is in a separate room and you need to purchase tickets for this in advance. The service here is what you would expect from Europeans: friendly, but slow. They seem to want to make you feel welcome to stay and not rushed out the door. I always feel awkward having to ask for the check, but I am getting better at it Overall, the experience was just what we were looking for: something warm and cozy after a week of dreary, cold Irish weather overlaid on top of our 12+ hour workdays. The table we sat next to were some local roofers who had far more difficult and dangerous jobs than we did, so we ended up leaving this place with a sense of gratitude for our jobs. Energized and refreshed from the long journey, we plowed through the rain and mist back down the mountain to our hotel in Dublin. The main roads here are far easier to traverse than the backroads.

The pie, is a stew with a pastry lid, not a pie. Lots of meat, and a very rich, salty gravy. Not a fan, but others raved about it. Plate envy for the roast chicken meal, looked lovely. Will I be back? Oh yes, I'll try something else, there is plenty to choose from.

The oysters were displayed on a bed of seaweed. And they brought to your table and explain to you all the ingredients then torch in front of you. I love all the combinations to max the flavor. I wanted to try the Dublin shrimp but unfortunately they ran out, I was told usually ran out at lunch. So I ordered crab on toast, really big size crab meat with cucumber on a yellow crab paste. Seafood linguine was do yummy. It came with a lot of local baby mussels and some shrimps. Cooked in wine and garlic sauce.

And a wall of paper towels that customers from all around the world have written messages on -- love that. We got the oyster sampler, which is a perfect pre-dinner snack size for two. It comes with four different kinds of oysters, two each, eight total. The waitress explained the taste profiles of each type: one was salty, one was mineral-y, another creamy. I thought the creamy oysters took the cake. Pro tip: come during Happy Hour and get a euro off each oyster!

Since we were on this side of the town, we decided to make the most of it and look for a meal of seafood. I had Octopussy's Tapas bookmarked when researching for the trip, so we decided to stop in for lunch. It was a Thursday at around 1:30, and the restaurant was almost full. It's a very small restaurant and it's mostly high top tables with bar stools, so it wasn't exactly looking baby-friendly, since had our 8-month old and a stroller with us. Luckily, they have a small back room (literally a room that can probably seat 4-6 people) that was available, and they seat us back there. It was nice and cozy, and cute - decorated like you were on a ship. Here is what we ordered: -Carlingford Oysters (served in the shell with fresh lemon) - these oysters were everything! They were big, shucked properly, and tasted super fresh. It didn't need anything but the lemon but they did recommend us trying their housemade hot sauce. We did and we loved it, and ended up buying a bottle to take home. We also ended up ordering some more oysters for dessert (lol) -Seafood Chowder (squid, mussels, smoked coley, & prawns served with homemade brown bread) - this was full of seafood. It is heavy though since chowder is cream-based so I would recommend sharing this, as opposed to ordering one on your own. The brown bread was also very nice -Seafood Paella (paella rice, chorizo, mussels, gambas, squid rings, and smoked coley) - another dish filled with seafood. They don't skimp out here! I could have done without the squid rings (they tasted rubber-bandy, like they're from frozen), and the smoked coley. I'm not a huge fan of smoked foods. I didn't really taste it in the chowder - maybe the cream covered it up, but I was able to taste it more in the paella -Whiskey Scallops (cooked in whiskey butter) - very rich but the scallops were good. You definitely want to dip some of the brown bread in this sauce There were so many other dishes we wanted to try but we had to stop ourselves from ordering too much for two people. Overall, it was a great meal and at these prices for seafood?! You really can't beat it.

I really love the variety on the fish counter, has a person not so up on handling or prepping from scratch, I love how they have cuts available with all the messy stuff already done for you or in fact, fish all prepped and ready to cook having already been seasoned and marinated... Nothing to think about just straight into the pan or the oven. They often have great offers on and are only happy to share some cooking tips or tricks. Aside from the fish, they stock a host of other organic and free range produce, as well as locally sourced products - guilt free buying :-) They have a great cheese counter too.Great addition is the coffee machine, they are now serving badger & dodo bean coffee. Ok, so sometimes the coffee is not spot on but when it comes to Dalkey, this is definitely the best place to grab a coffee on the go. Also sampled their hot chocolate, yum yum!

It's quite a taxi ride from the center of town but well worth the trip. I did have to book a couple of weeks in advance to get even a 9:15p.m. Friday night reservation, so plan ahead. Usually, lobster is overcooked, so we get used to it being that way, The lobster at Lobstar was a revelation, cooked just barely enough, so it was moist, tender and flavorful. The sauce underneath was exquisite. The menu listed only "lobster tail." I had to ask that the claws be included, which was at extra cost. No question, it was the best lobster I've ever eaten! The generous side order of green beans (with a little grated cheese and hot sauce) was a nice addition. It's small and unfancy, not a place for a serious conversation. The mains were well presented fresh with nice accompaniments on the plate. Then we pushed the boat out & went for deserts - Eton mess & the chocolate mousse, the latter being an absolute star for us! We washed it all down with a nice rose - their wine menu has quite a good selection to choose from. The staff were nice & welcoming too, so would highly recommend trying this place out. Whilst we were there the place packed out quite quickly, so a reservation may be the safe thing to do.
