We were met by the Host Alex that helped us store our bags. When we returned later that evening, our bags were already in our room waiting for us. We had to leave extremely early the next morning so we had to miss breakfast. Alex went the extra mile to see that we were taken care of and made us a takeaway breakfast along with some fresh coffee.

Once we arrived, we parked our car on the private parking lot, which is pretty cool. Then we went inside and were welcomed, but just not in the Scottish awesome way that we were used to from other places. This place isn't a B&B, it's, as it says in the name, a guest house. That means it's more commercial. Our room was okay. Not very big, but big enough. Nod very modern, but we didn't care. It was clean and we had a bed to sleep in: perfect: It also said in the description: Complimentary sample of whiskey or sherry for every guest! So we tried it. The whisky wasn't a single malt as one might would expect in Scotland, but it was a mixed whisky, probably even Jack Daniels or something like that. In a so called Distillery Guest House, this was quite the disappointment. Breakfast was included, self service with eggs, sausages, and all the other Scottish breakfast delights. It was standard, and most importantly cooked and then kept warm for some time, so it wasn't the best breakfast we've had on our journey. But: it was okay. Thus: Three stars from me for an okay but not very special experience. My tip: go to Ben Nevis Inn for dinner!

We arrived as early in the afternoon as possible as we had hopes it would be worth it. We wound around the drive to the 2 story house and parked our car. We wandered in as the husband of the house(it's a husband and wife that own it), was by the front door. He gave us a tour of the beautiful house, including the breakfast area and guided us to our room. Our room was called the Ben Nevis. Fitting, as it had an awesome view of, the Ben Nevis! It had a hat of clouds on but the valley below was just as great. The room was open and cozy at the same time with many accouterments. The location was great as there was a restaurant right near by that was walking distance. the next morn we had an excellent breakfast with toast, many cheeses and meats and some salmon. It was perfect for us as it was fairly quick and great to it the road. We really do hope to e back. It may be on another continent, but worth trying to make it back.

There you can find a cute little shop called Haggard Alley for all things Harry Potter. Not only do you go over the famous viaduct but you'll also pass the island where scenes were filmed and Dumbledore's grave. A very relaxing day trip.

There's plenty of info out there on how to book, routes, etc, so I won't go into that here. Tips I'll share: 1) book early - don't even think about trying to arrange this the night before. 2) don't do first class - while it's more comfy and usually our type of travel, we booked on one of the cars toward the back. That way you can see and video/snap pics of the front of the train as it goes over the viaduct. Makes you think lightening struck your forehead. 3) sit on the left side - if you're in the car facing to the front of the train, make sure your seat is on the left side. A much better view of the train going over the viaduct. 4) drink a beer or wine - even if it's 9:30 in the morning, which it was for us, have a brewskie...you're on vacation. 5) eat fast in Mallaig - don't spend a lot of time choosing restaurants. Pick a place the night before. When you arrive at Mallaig, run your happy bum to the restaurant you chose, order (and don't even try to get starters first then mains) and eat. You can take pics afterwards. Restaurants there are small, get slammed with each Twain's arrival, plus the local tourists who come by car. Hope this helps!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage, and it really was lovely. It was well equipped and furnished, and had everything we needed. The kitchen in particular was very well kitted out, with good quality items. The cottage was far cosier than I expected, getting us toasty warm when we got back in from hill-walking or mountain-biking, and kept us nice and snug while we nestled in on the rainy days. My favourite thing was getting up in the morning and having a quite seat in the sitting room, its large windows offering the perfect viewing opportunity to watch the red squirrels bounding about the lawns and trees. It's a very short journey to Fort William, either by car or bike, so you will be able to get everything that you need in terms of supplies very close by. If you're planning to climb Ben Nevis, then the holiday park would be an excellent base, as it's only a few minutes walk from the entry point to the hill.

There was lots of information to hand for those planning on climbing the mountain and the facilities were clean and well maintained. The only reason I gave a 'very good' rating instead of excellent was because the price we paid on arrival was more than I was quoted over the phone. I hate hidden charges!

It was only a cheap break but the brochure made Glen Water look idylic - Log Cabins overlooking Loch Ochie, surrounded by beautiful pine wood forests with the foothills of Ben Nevis in the background. Perfect you may think?..... However after a long 7 hour drive we arrived to a shabby Log Cabin and became quickly dissapointed. The Cabins and lodges were in dire need of an upgrade and a good scrubbing. Hard to reach areas were full of cobwebs, Furniture was dated and worn and overall it was a major let down. The park itself offered a host of activities from Watersports to Absailing but some of the equipment looked way past its use by date so we didnt pay for any activities on-site. Glen Waters saving grace is the location - The surrounding area is beautiful with stunning scenery around every corner. We spent most of our time walking and hiking (and getting lost!). We were only approx 20 minutes from Ben Nevis which is an amazing site and about an hour from Loch Ness which is well worth a trip boy that monster is shy!! We were informed that Glen Water was having major refurb during the Winter, so hopefully they have now made the much needed improvements on the accommodation. It was a big let down for us after such a long drive but it has so much potential and hopefully will be restored back to its former glory one day! If you can bag a cheap break for under £100 its still worth a trip as the location is fantastic and well worth a visit.
