But then I tried the beans.. these might be the best baked beans I've ever had, good sweet BBQ flavor with a smokey meat on top of that. The chicken is good sized and cooked well nice outter crisp and juicy inside. The flavors were great. Honey pepper, subtle honey with large corse pepper all over. Hot start out with a great taste decent spice but then the after burn hits a little, too spicy for the wife but perfect for me. I regret one thing and that's not getting the lemon pepper for myself. They were the best of the three. Lastly the chip fries, they are waffle fries, cut thin, giving a nice balance between crisp and soft. $36 total for the 2 of us. Well worth the drive.

A basket of chips and two small bowls of Salsa is $3.99. I like tortia chips that are thin and light. Tamales Lupe's chips are thick and heavy. The first basket they brought to the table was mostly crumbs. We also ordered Quacamole. It was excellent! For drinks we ordered a water and diet Dr. Pepper. The DP was flat. They do not serve alcoholic beverages. Another little annoyance is the salt served in little paper packets instead of being in skakers. My wife ordered pork tamales and they were excellent. I ordered a cheese Chili Releno and it was excellent. The rice seemed undercooked. The very young server provided below average service rating a 2. The entrees rate a 5 as does the quacamole. Throw in the issue with the chips and the flat DP I can't get higher than a 3 overall rating.

So for our 56th anniversary we decided to go back and try the new Southwestern Queso. We decided to sit in the bar, as we like the high booths, and we were greeted immediately by our server. I asked for a "house" margarita and was told it is no longer available. Since it was our anniversary I opted for the more expensive Patron margarita, and it was the best margarita I've ever had in my 77 years. The tequila is smooth, and the Citrónge is addictive. No "mix" taste - just delicious. The new queso comes with salsa and chips, and we loved it and much prefer it over the former queso. It was milder, slightly spicy with a hint of lime. My husband enjoyed the chicken crispers, and I had the buffalo chicken ranch sandwich, which was messier than I remember but still good. Our server was outstanding - friendly, helpful, and attentive, plus she helped us use a coupon and get another discount to help with that expensive margarita. :D As a side note, we used to go to the original Chili's in Dallas back in the early 1980s, and we would to have to stand in line just to get in. It was always crowded with a noisy, welcoming ambiance, and they had a charming little train that ran around the ceiling. I always got the Terlingua Chili Burger. We miss that old place!
