On our way to Terrell, Texas and stopped for lunch at Tamales Lupe's. It's off the beaten path away from all the restrauants that line each side of highway 75. It's located in downtown Sherman in an old historic building. Nothing fancy about this venue. Simple decor with a touch of their heritage. The chips and sala are not complimentary. A basket of chips and two small bowls of Salsa is $3.99. I like tortia chips that are thin and light. Tamales Lupe's chips are thick and heavy. The first basket they brought to the table was mostly crumbs. We also ordered Quacamole. It was excellent! For drinks we ordered a water and diet Dr. Pepper. The DP was flat. They do not serve alcoholic beverages. Another little annoyance is the salt served in little paper packets instead of being in skakers. My wife ordered pork tamales and they were excellent. I ordered a cheese Chili Releno and it was excellent. The rice seemed undercooked. The very young server provided below average service rating a 2. The entrees rate a 5 as does the quacamole. Throw in the issue with the chips and the flat DP I can't get higher than a 3 overall rating. read more

My daughter Amanda and I started off the day meeting here for a quick breakfast. We both had the egg, potato and cheese breakfast burrito. It was delicious. This was my first time at this location. I usually go to the one in Denison, Texas. Waitress was attentive, and pleasant. Parking is tricky. But definitely worth the experience. We will be returning. #GraysonCounty #DowntownSherman #SupportsLocalTexomaDelivery read more

I visited the morning of July 4th to pick up breakfast tacos. Having left North Texas nine years ago, my family and I were hungry for a taste of home. They did not disappoint! Owner and staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast tacos were made with all fresh ingredients. The salsa verde was chef's kiss. I brought my order back to the family but seating appeared clean and comfy. Highly recommend trying them out. read more

My husband and I stopped by here for some breakfast tacos on our way home from Durant, and man-oh-man, I'm glad we did! For starters, the chips and salsa were sooooo good! (I ended up buying 16 oz of the green sauce to go.) I ordered two of the potato, egg, and cheese breakfast tacos but could only eat one because they were bigger than I expected. I took the other to-go for later. My husband had a chorizo taco and a tamale plate and ate every bit of it. The service was great, as well. This little hole in the wall delivers big on flavor and service! Give it try! You won't regret it! read more

This used to be one of my favorite spots for breakfast. They had very good food but this morning I was very disappointed. We walked in and the restaurant only had 3 tables seated with people. So we sat at a table and waited 15 minutes. No one came to take an order or ask what we wanted to drink. We saw the owner come in and chat with the only other table that had guests there. He never turned to as if we had been helped yet. I finally got up and went to ask for two drinks which were handed to me at the counter. I told the waitress where we were seated. She followed me and gave us menus and immediately asked if we were ready to order. Before I could answer she turned and walked off back to the kitchen. Then the other waitress came out asked the other table of guests if they needed anything, refilled their coffee, turned and looked right at my empty glass walked off My wife and I got up and walked out. No one asked if we were ok or if anyone had helped us. This is completely unacceptable for a restaurant with such high ratings. We will not be going back again. The only reason I rated it with one star is because it has to have a rating Otherwise it would have had a negative star. read more

If I could give our visit a 3 1/2 I would. It was our first time and some things I liked and others I didn't. My husband liked his meal, it was a Pork Tamale Plate with Chili and Eggs . He said he would give it a 4, he thought the tamales and chili were good. We both liked the beans, not my favorite, but by far not my least favorite. We both liked their Hot Sauce and would give it a solid 4, I really enjoyed eating it, it was pretty much my favorite thing. My husband liked their Green Salsa the most and would give that a 4 1/2. I was disappointed in my tamale selection. We drove about 1 1/2 hours one way and I was looking forward to their Sweet Potato Tamale, but did not have any available. I also asked for a Brisket Tamale , but they had none of those available either. I was told they had pork, chicken, and spinach tamales to choose from so I settled for a spinach one. I did not like it and gave the rest to my husband, the masa tasted like blueberries to me. ‍ I did get two breakfast tacos and I liked the No. 4, Potatoe, Cheese and Potatoes one. I would give them a 3, that tasted very average to me. I got a Spinach Breakfast Taco and did not like that at all, I'd probably give it a 1 1/2 or 2. The waitress was pleasant and there were no problems there. I'm glad my husband enjoyed his plate and I really did enjoy the hot sauce. read more

Great customer service and speedy transactions for food pick up. I've only gotten the tamales to go. They have them made and ready to sell. You have the option of buying them cold Incase you won't be eating them right away. They stay fresh for a couple of days in the fridge. Authentic Mexican taste for sure. Regular size therefore I think they could sell for $10 not $15. Other than the price my whole first experience was great. read more

How good can it be if they leave plastic and a metal band in your food? I almost broke a tooth. When i showed it to her she said Really! Thats it no refund no apology? Very poor attention to detail if packaging is not seen when making food! Maybe in Mexico thats ok? This is a location in Denison Tx. I recommend eating at El Tapitio if in Denison Tx. I love their pollo jalisco ,they also have hotter salsa upon request be careful I mix a little with their regular salsa amazing. read more

Ole' what a find in Sherman, Texas! Lupe's World Famous Tamales are worldly tasty. We tried the specialty plate; smoked pork, spinach and tamale all with the perfect balance of masa to filling. You will have room for chips and some very tasty salsa. These tamales are gluten free also! One more thing...there is a full menu and the chile relleno was rich and well prepared. We had the owner John serve us which really spiced up the evening. Gracias read more

Ordered 6 doz tamales 2 weeks ago (and paid for them) to pick up today at 3pm. It is now 3:25 & we are still sitting outside waiting for them to be ready. This little Mexican food joint is great! The tamales are delicious. We had breakfast and absolutely loved it.

Lupe's was recommended on Facebook for their tamales & I was not disappointed! I'm so excited to have tried the brisket & the pork tamales, not to mention the delicious fresh salsa! Can't wait to get more! My husband said "these are the best tamales we've ever had." The owner, John, was very friendly & came out to talk to me while I waited for my to go order. Food well prepared and tasty!! Real authentic, cozy place, clean and ambient, staff was friendly. Drink specials. Would of gave four and half stars but took half star for limited parking and slow service. But what really drags this place down is the swindler that either owns or manages the place. If your menu says something, it's your restaurant and your menu not mine, know what it says. If you offer something on your menu then offer it or take it off. Not military friendly. read more

I really like this place. It's in a cute, historic building in downtown. The lady who waited on me was busy but very nice and efficient. I ordered the chicken tamale plate and enjoyed the deep, rich flavor of the dark red salsa while I waited. It was really good and the chips were fresh. I also ordered a Jalepeno Popper to go with my meal. The plate looked so good, as you can see in the picture. The Popper was one of the best I've ever had, definitely home made. The tamales were also excellent and the beans were outstanding, thick with lots of whole beans. It's really cute on the inside, kind of a "shabby chic" look. I really like finding and supporting these small town, home owned restaurants. read more

I used to stop in at Lupe's all the time for fish tacos and chips and salsa. It's really delicious, simple Mexican food or an okay price. A lot of other people seem to stop by there on their lunch breaks, so it's a good place to meet new people. I've had interesting conversations with people from all walks of life in there, which is refreshing on a lunch break when you want to get away from whatever was going on at work. The food is good. I wouldn't say it was out of this world, but I really did like it. The service is friendly. The decor is not bad. This is a great place to visit if you work downtown, or if you're looking for something new. read more

I've been to Tamales Lupe's maybe 3 or more years ago and wasn't impressed. Went to my sisters for dinner and she had refried beans and rice from them for her side dish they were pretty tasty so I decided to go and give it another try. I ordered the tamale plate with 3 chicken tamales beans and rice the Tamales were awful OMG they were so dry it was like they stuck them in the microwave for 10 minutes nothing fresh or tasty about them. So other then the refried beans and rice I wouldn't go back my boyfriend was with me and ordered enchiladas and a side of guacamole I don't even want to get into the details of this!! read more

You can count on consistency at Lupe's. I've been eating there for 20 years, and it's reliably fresh and good food. The Acapulco salad or chicken tacos for healthier choices or enchiladas for a more filling option. I love the chips and salsa. The migas are my favorite breakfast food, but the breakfast tacos are great when you don't want to get filled up. Good place to catch up on local happenings. read more

My husband and I love eating at Lupe's. We started out getting tamales, then started coming for breakfast, and now we dine there at any time of day because the menu has proved to be delicious. They have new spinach tamales that are DELICIOUS (I prefer them mild, but you can get them spicy), and their chile rellenos are pretty good, too. I don't care much for their rice or their beans. It's actually cheaper for me to order enchiladas a la carte and I get three instead of the two included in the enchilada plate. I wish their prices were a little lower. It's good food but make the side dishes amazing before you charge so much for a platter. Overall, a great choice if you don't want plain old Tex-Mex and prefer more authentic Mexican food. read more

Best tamales ever. Place was packed today. Always good food and great service. I had their jalapeño pork tamales today. I get them topped with chili con carne. The brisket tamales are the best but they were out today. Wife raves about their soup. She loves it on a cold day. They do close early at 6pm on Saturday. Worth the trip if you are passing through Sherman. read more

Tamales Lupe's - This is the dining room. Small and personal. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Sherman, Texas

Ordered 3 dozen tamales (2 plain, 1 spicy) for Christmas lunch with family. While the seasoning was as good as expected, the tamales were DRY! We reheated them exactly per the instructions given to us, and they were still very DRY. I had to cover them with Cheese dip in order to eat them - like eating crackers. Very, very, very disappointed. What is really disappointing is that last year they were great, and I ordered them/reheated them the same way. Will not order from them again. read more

Been coming here for years. Always enjoy a good conversation with the owner, John. Food has always been consistent. Tamales are always great. Here lately food is served tepid. Even when you ask the waitress to be sure the food is served hot it comes out luke warm. Been to a lot of Mexican restaurants and have never seen a waitress be able to carry three plates with no protection from the heat of the plates. Also, don't get your hopes up for rellenos. Although they are good, don't get your hopes up as they have been out of them the last two times we have been there. Amazes me how you can be out of standard items on the menu. Once, ok. Two in a row, no excuse. Take it off the menu if you are not gonna have continually. Cold food and out of stock menu items cause me to think this is my last time here. read more

Really slow service, no flavor at all and owner/manager had zero customer service skills. Our orders were inaccurate, some cold and one, after an hour, had to get hers to go and was still charged 50% of the total. If in Sherman don't bother going here. Ate at Camino Viejo the week prior and it was very good. read more

Tamales are good, some of the best I have had but the service gets a D-. Love this place! Their tamales are amazing as well as their sauces. Service is always pleasant. If your craving tamales this is the place to come. A little hard to find if your not from here but well worth it when you do. Parking is limited. I will complain it takes a long time to get an order to go. I just ordered a couple dozen of tamales to go. It took over 20 minutes. All they had to do was put them in a bag... They are still delish! read more

Good eat in menu, but get a few to take home. Try the asparagus tamales. I have never been disappointed with anything I have tried.

My favorite!!! Can't find a better place locally with breakfast taco's that compares to Lupe's tacos. :)

Well I hate giving places bad reviews or making complaints but here I go. First off we ordered queso and it was pretty expensive so I expected to be really good. When we got it it was bright yellow and you could tell it was just the cheap nacho cheese from a can I also could tell by the taste. I ordered enchiladas and asked for sour cream sauce. The waitress said well we don't have it. She said that they have this other type of sauce that's kind of like it and that its so good that she dips her chips in it. So I trusted her judgement because she was a good waitress and was very sweet. Well this amazing sauce that was supposedly like a sour cream sauce was just cream of chicken soup. I could tell by the cheap salty pieces of chicken in it. I will never spend money here again. read more

Lupe's has decent, commercial "Mexican" food. My husband really likes their tamales!

Food is decent but the service is terrible. Would not recommend going Sat mornings, especially if you want chips and salsa before "11am". It's the end of the world. Waitress seemed very put out to have to serve and very hurried to take our order. F for service, B for food. read more
