Half eaten rice noodle with curry fish balls
Michelle C.

I used to go to Sun Hing Lung on Henry street, but after walking by one day I saw they opened up this spot on Grand St! I ordered the curry fish ball rice noodles ($3.75), I had about 4 or 5 fish balls in there (I wished there was more). You can also just order fishballs by itself too, the woman working there quoted it to be $4.50 for like 14 of them. The rice noodles itself are pretty good, its nice and bouncy, and not overcooked/soggy. They aren't the freshly steamed type, but would be perfect for making stir fried rice noodles at home. I'm curious to try out the other menu items, like their savory or sweet tofu, or fresh soy milk. Will need to return :)

Room temp cheung fun with pork shrimp and scallions

Hole in wall place that looks like it's the same owners of Sun hing on Henry street before it's changed hands. I've only tried two items from this place but so far I've been impressed. They serve the cart style cheung fun with the peanut, sweet sauce and hot sauce with fishballs for 3.75 for a medium (pint). They have curry fishballs and the regular oyster sauce ones. The rice noodles were bouncy and fresh. Sauces were tasty and for the price you can't beat it- it came with noodles and 5 fish balls. I also got the room temp cheung fun that is stuffed with pork, dried shrimp and scallions. They are located on the top of the counter and can only be bought as a set of 4 in a box for 4.75. Now these noodles are made fresh in the morning and rolled with these fillings so it's a hit or miss if you see them. I would advise to buy them earlier in the day and not on a hot day otherwise they spoil quick. I've gotten these rolls twice now and they were tasty and cheaper than where I usually get from Hester. However they need more scallions for it to be a really good rice roll. But in comparison to other places that sell 1.75 for one- four rolls for 4.75 is very reasonable for the quality and amount. Will def be back for the other goodies here.

We got a little of everything, including cocktails. The peashooter greens were super flavorful. Everything was executed well. The sweet and sour pork was the best I've ever had. The server was attentive, but also really busy. It took quite awhile to get drinks. That's my only complaint. This place has some hype, but it's pretty damn good. I can see why.

The food was great! This is a "see and be seen" type of place. The nightclub-like, velvet rope-type atmosphere and service, however, are a turn-off for us. It is a very loud place, but we were lucky enough to get the most quiet seating, which is not an intimate quiet, but we could talk. (We know we had the quietest spot as Lori walked around the whole place.) The service was ok. It took some time to get water and cocktails, but they eventually arrived, and then food came out quickly. Lori's favorites were the two appetizers. I enjoyed everything equally. Here's what we had - Oxtail Dumplings - sweet soy, green apple, jalapeño. These were rich, melt-in-your-mouth savory oxtail with sweet-savory soy, crisp green apple freshness, and a mild jalapeño kick. General Tso's Dumplings - chicken, hot & sour broth. These were good, but I would have liked more spice. Lori said they were spicy enough. Lobster Mapo Tofu - minced beef, lobster, Sichuan chili sauce. They did a good job on this one. I was pleasantly surprised to find a hint of actual Sichuan peppercorns, but then again, this is NYC. Duck Fried Rice - crispy rice & scallion. The rice had some really good crispy bits, and chewy pieces for great texture. The duck was surprisingly shredded, and delicious. I wish there was a little more of it.
