    Szechuan Beef Tacos
    Kurt F.

Checking out downtown Richmond looking for something different - try the Asian Mexican fusion. Funky menu, eclectic decor, busy at 2p - I'm in. Tried the Szechuan beef tacos - good taste no spicy. Comes with a white crema that was a little sweet which changed the flavor profile. Had a side of black beans that I'll be honest, at first look I thought were very dried out - nope. Ate the whole bowl. Would definitely recommend and go back my next time in town.

Stopped to grab dinner here on Halloween night before a show at the Altria. The restaurant itself has outdoor and indoor seating, since it is overlooking the street, we opted to sit inside where we were greeted with a suprisingly spacious interior with a bar. The moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. Our server was attentive and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu, guiding us through all the offerings we had questions about. The restaurant was not very busy so we were seated very quickly. We were really impressed by the vast amount of menu offerings so we opted to try a couple of items including the Loco wings, Crispy Bao, Sezchuan beef tacos and of course a side of fries. We started with the loco wings drizzled in their loco sauce...seriously, they were a game-changer! The server described the sauce as a mix of wet and dry seasoning, I would describe it as absolutely delicious. It was very savory, with a hint of citrus and punch of smokiness, I haven't had anything like it and I'm already dreaming about when I can have it again. It was definitely our favorite of the evening. The Tacos and Bao were also amazing. The Bao especially was a unique twist on typical Bao offerings with it being fried which was a deviation from the typical soft bao buns I am used to. It felt really innovative and added a delightful crunch to the soft filling. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these options. The fries were topped with "Mexinese" seasoning which made them stand out from your normal fry offerings and felt like a great side. We ended the meal with their fried tequila cake...yes I said fried tequila cake! It was a fried angel food cake that was soaked in tequila and it was amazing. The dessert was a great end to the night, it was soft and just sweet enough to satisfy without being overwhelming. Overall, this place is a fantastic find for anyone looking to explore bold and creative flavors. It is a unique option for a meal and it was quite affordable making it a decent lunch or quick dinner spot! Don't miss it! It's a flavor journey that's truly un-bao-lievable

The food was pretty darn good! Not much business on a Friday afternoon. Our server was pretty attentive, and food came out fast. I liked my steak stir fry, but what really shone was the calamari. It was crispy and salty/savory with an amazing dipping sauce. For a fusion restaurant, they do a good mix of Chinese and Mexican! The restaurant's interior was dimly lit but pretty swanky.

Went for a buddy's birthday dinner. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Had the Bulgogi Carne Asada w/fried rice. Absolutely incredible. The birthday bouly had the Bulgogi Banh-Mi, which he raved about. Would absolutely go back and would recommend.

First time at this place, after years of saying that my spouse and I needed to try it. This was late dinner after the comedy show at Dominion Energy. Great service and really good food! And the inside was more spacious than I thought (like a Tardis)!!

Recommended for my visit to Richmond. We we went on a busy Saturday and initially seated at a bar but a table opened up quickly. Music was nice and catchy! The server was so sweet and gave awesome options depending on what we like. The food took a while to come out and when it did, it was fine. I was hoping for more depth of flavor. The banh mi was good.

Plantains were the best thing we ordered. The shrimp appetizer was a good temperature hit. and the chicken BBQ bao buns were lukewarm. The entrees continued with the lukewarm temp and we just weren't sure if that is how it was supposed to be served. We ordered the cheesecake rolls and the tequila soaked angel food cake for dessert to try. It was messy and not appetizing. Great little spot for a first date, but not worth the hype. When our bill arrived out was not itemized so not sure if we tipped twice or were charged correctly. At that point we didn't really care and just wanted to leave. One and done.

    I. Love. This. Place. The unique food choices, happy hour drink specials, and generous portions are among some of my favorite things. The speed of service can be hit or miss, but when it's good, it's REALLY good. The food and drinks are consistent every time though, so even if the service is on the slower side, I'm still going to come back and get my margarita and chicken stirfry.

These fusion places are all the rage and this one was definitely good! I think the chunjang fish tacos might have lacked a bit in flavor, but the fatty fajita bao was a really unique spin on what I normally expect with a bao dish. The pork was wnderfully charred and the cilantro was a great garnish that really subtly added to the flavor profile in a great way. Everything was super reasonable - two "dishes" and tip cost me $20, my friend really enjoyed the Surf & Turf Burrito as well. Good for a quick but "foodie-appealing" stop on your Richmond restaurant tour!

Wong Gonzales is a nice lunch and happy hour spot. They're able to accommodate larger parties. I've had a few different things on the menu and everything has been pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of fusion dishes as I usually find myself wanting just one specific cuisine but a lot of the dishes work. They have bento boxes during lunch that are a good deal. Their happy hour is 4-6pm every day including margaritas, cocktails, wine, and beer. They can be a little busy and understaffed so wait times can be longer. The high ceilings are really nice as I noticed the place is well ventilated and you don't leave smelling like the restaurant. I will say between here and their sister restaurant in Short Pump, I do prefer the latter.

Stop by for lunch today. Glad I took the time to do some research on yelp and find this restaurant. I absolutely love fusion cuisines and Wong Gonzalez does an amazing job of blending Mexican and Asian dishes. I ordered a little bit of a sampler and really enjoyed just about everything I got. My main entrée was the beef Bulgogi burrito and it was one of the best burritos I've ever had. The protein was nice and juicy was not overwhelmed by vegetables and had a nice rice in it as well. It was really enough for two meals really a red fantastic dish . The chips that they were served with seemed homemade and had a nice seasoning on them. That was nice for a change of pace. I also got the bow buns and like them as well, though I would've preferred a steamed bun as opposed to what seemed like a grilled bun. The fried rice was really good as well. I really liked the addition of the fried shallots in with the rice and other ingredients you'd find in a fried rice dish. The shallots had a nice bit of crunch to the fried rice that I enjoyed. On top of all the service was fantastic. The manager took my order right away offered me a seat at the bar got me a glass of water to drink while I waited for my food and had my carryout order in my hands in less than 10 minutes incredibly efficient process delivering really good food. Next time I come to Richmond I'll plan on paying this restaurant another visit.

Happy experience! My Uber driver recommended this spot - here for a work trip - and it was a success. The restaurant is on a cute little street, walking distance from my downtown hotel. The restaurant is a long room with a bar, as well as booths, and an upstairs area that can be booked for private events. I sat at the bar as I came by myself, and enjoyed a cocktail, appetizer and meal. The drink was a variation of a cosmo, and it was sweet and delicious. I ordered the bao buns and then the Mongolian Chicken Pot. The bartender recommended pairing with the fried rice, which is a slight up charge, though seemed worth it. If I came back, I'd order the main dish again - with the fried rice - and while I enjoyed the app and drink, I'd probably choose others just to experience more of the menu. Server was friendly, items came out in an appropriate amount of time. 5/5

This place is funky & fun! The menu is unique without going too niche. We loved the flavors, especially the salsa & the ramen. Service started out strong but ended poor when our waitress took my credit card for payment and disappeared completely for 10+ minutes. I had to flag down the manager to inquire and he brushed it off like it was fine but having your card in the back room that long is unsettling and not a great way to end an otherwise good meal!

Everything on the menu was a 5, okay I make my own gravy and it wasn't that (but it was good, and a little salty but very good with the bangers and mash. ) Bangers & mash very good! Burger very good! Jalapeño poppers awesome. The curry fries with chicken tenders and onions will blow your mind with flavor. Wow on the reubin and the turkey avocado sandwiches. Had a waitress that laughed. Liverpool was playing and I imagine it's a great space to watch this if that's your speed. Sunday lunch menu had a good mixture of things. I was drawn into the special, which was a pork belly quiche with Irish cheese and green onions. This was ultimately quite fine. Big quiche fan but this wasn't my favorite crust nor my favorite cheese. And if I hadn't been told there was meat in it I'm not sure I would have noticed. The side salad had a nice balsamic dressing. What was most bothersome, though, was the size of the quiche. It was cheap enough but not really a lunch potion. Wish I had gone with a sanwich. Drinks were good-pretty standard. The service was astounding and everyone was so nice. Probably wouldn't come back for the food but if you want to watch some football (soccer) it's a nice option.
