This original review was for our first year there but we ended up having our son at Wonderwell for a second year and it was incredible.

The Dell Performing Arts Center is a small, cozy theater with great views of the stage from every seat. The intimate setting made for a wonderful experience. Parking was convenient, with a lot right in front of the theater and overflow parking available. Check-in for the show was smooth and hassle-free, and there's even a concession stand before you enter. The audio quality was excellent, making every performance clear and engaging. Overall, a fantastic venue for performances--well-organized, comfortable, and a great addition to Austin's arts scene!

They did have to take the ISEE entrance exam as well as submit their transcript/report cards from the public schools they'd previously attended as well as sit for interviews. Our kids are also scholarship kids - we are a lower middle-class family who can only afford private school with very significant financial aid. Things to know: You need to start the application process early and turn everything in on time. There is a waiting list to get in, openings fill quickly, and it's not just academics or money that get your kid in - the interview and their other extracurriculars and interests matter. YES, there are some cocky, elitist kids (and parents), as you'll find in most private schools, but there are also many kind, down-to-earth, wonderful students, families, and faculty at SAS. The overall environment is warm and welcoming, and my kids both found a social group there. We didn't love every teacher, but overall, the academic experience was great, and most teachers are both knowledgeable and supportive. Their academic advising program is really helpful because your student has an adult on campus to help advocate for them if they are struggling in class or having difficulty with a teacher. The college counseling program for juniors and seniors is also a serious advantage over public schools. St. Andrew's centers its education around 4 pillars - service, academics, arts & athletics. All students participate in all four pillars, meaning they all have to do arts, they all have to do sports, they all have to do community service, and they all must maintain their grades. I'm grateful our kids were encouraged and held accountable to complete service in the community because it builds empathy and a perspective outside their own lived experiences in the world. St. Andrew's does have chapel daily, but all faiths are welcome, and we found the Episcopal tradition encourages asking questions and thinking deeply about what you believe but also compassion and acceptance of other faiths. I had kids who were not really athletic and didn't want to do sports, but because everyone had to do sports, they weren't the only kids on the team who didn't have prior sports experience, and it turned out to be great for them. They both tried 2 new sports and didn't regret it. Where can a student join a team sport in high school, with no prior experience, in the public school setting? Just about nowhere. So, the team sports experience was a real positive for our family. Our kids are artsy, one a painter and writer and the other a vocalist, and they both found places to excel in their interests, through studio art and building a portfolio, to creative writing as an elective and the opportunity to be published in the school literary journal, through musical theater and the competitive select choir. Academically, there are not many AP classes, compared to some public schools who offer pre-AP and then AP classes, because the standard-level classes at SAS are taught at what would be considered AP level in public schools; however, there are still advanced upper-level AP courses in math, science, history, and languages. Their language program is also exceptional: they only offer Mandarin, Latin & Spanish, but they start in 6th grade and go all the way through AP-level language courses, so a kid can graduate with 6 years of language, and there are many opportunities for competitions and trips that deepen their understanding of the language they have chosen. Both of my students have mild learning disabilities, but we found the support they needed to build good study habits, seek out tutoring, and advocate for themselves, and though they may not have been in the top of their class at St. Andrew's, they did well on SAT/ACT and found themselves more than prepared for college and have experienced success after leaving SAS. They're both grateful for their time at St. Andrew's, and we as parents believe it was definitely worth it.

The teachers and the atmosphere just radiate peace and positivity. The quality of education is incredible. My son turned 5 yesterday and is already about to start reading!! The amount of personal attention and care each student receives is incredible. My second child is about to "walk through the gates of life" this May and head to kindergarten.. I am honestly heartbroken to not go there everyday anymore lol! We have had a child there for the past 5 years and if I could keep them there forever, I would! We have had the honor to get to know Ms. Alex, Ms. Jazmin and Ms. Morgan over the years and these women are absolutely INCREDIBLE! They have huge hearts and really LOVE what they do, and it shows!! They have a magic way of connecting, communicating and relating to the kids. We are so THANKFUL for the values and knowledge they have bestowed in our children that will shape who they become forever!! We love each of you so much!! My kids made me promise to always take them back to say hello as they grow...that speaks volumes in my book. Athena is a purely magical place!

The growth from August until now has been exponential on all fronts. He is more independent, communicating more and becoming a member of his classroom community. The other parents as well have created a lovely community and support system as well. My husband and I didn't realize just how lucky we were to get a spot in the school!
