I have been a regular customer at Pro Nails since they opened. I live in Quail Ridge and like to support the local businesses. There was absolutely no issues with my toenails when went to Pro Nails for a routine pedicure. The nail technician cut the nail of my right big toe quite short and when I left it was painful. That evening it got progressively sorer and by the next day the toe was very infected and it was painful to walk in shoes. I was extremely upset, I have been getting pedicures for the past 30 years and never had an issue. I soaked my foot and used an antibiotic cream on the toe and by the 2nd day it was healing however still infected and sore. I dropped by Pro Nails to let them know that after my pedicure my toe had become infected. They totally denied having anything to do with the infection and told me that I had an ingrown nail and to go see a Dr., they did not take any responsibility whatsoever for the infection that was a result of the pedicure I received. I don't have an ingrown nail, I have an infection caused by the pedicure I received at Pro Nails which they 100% denied.

Yelp reviewers were right about this place -- clean, nice job, friendly staff, and prices were very comparable to other nail salons! The owner, Lana, was there and was super friendly. I had to wait about 10 minutes (as I did not have an appointment), but I didn't mind as I was not in a rush and it gave me time to look for my nail polish colour. She also offered me some tea or water while waiting, which I declined since I wasn't thirsty at the time. The girl who did my manicure, Noewa, did an excellent job and didn't rush at all. During my manicure, Lana came back to ask if I wanted tea or water this time, and I happily took a cup of tea, which was so nice! Just before my nails were done, I overheard Lana ask Noewa (in a motherly way) if she had taken a break and to get something to eat. If you ask me, that's a nice boss to have, making sure her staff gets the proper treatment! I'm not sure if these 2 ladies were related, but it was still a nice thing for Lana to do. To top it off, they have a stamp/loyalty card, which gives you $5 off after your 5th and 10th visit. I didn't make an appointment and Kathy took me in despite how busy they were. She was quick but she did a fantastic job with the set! I was absolutely amazed. The second time was for a nail removal. I didn't catch the name of the guy but he was super nice. I will admit that nail removals aren't my favourite thing to do and he checked in every 5 minutes to make sure he wasn't attacking my nails. Third time, I also didn't catch their names but these ladies did a wonderful job on my gel set and pedicure! The only thing I would suggest for pedicure is to warn us about the towel being extremely hot before setting it on our legs. But overall, she did an amazing job and it's still looking real good after 3 weeks.

After Nancy confirmed my appointment she harshly said, "and don't be late otherwise I won't be able to see you until 1:30 ". Her comment stunned me because I had not been late in many months. Over the years I thought Nancy did not like me because no matter how much I said hello, tried to make conversation and gave good tips she was very serious, hardly acknowledged me when I came in she never wished me a nice day or thanked me for a tip. She shows no basic customer service in politeness. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I did like how my nails were done, but yesterday I read through other reviews where others were treated rudely by Nancy. Other customers also said Smile Nail employees would call them if they are even 1 minute late for their appointment threatening to give their appointment away. I had the same experience. Then I would walk in the salon and no one would even be there, they weren't even that busy. Frankly, those phone calls made me feel a bit harassed but I let it slide and tried to remain a loyal customer. Other times if I asked for my mani pedi to be done separate, Nancy would get upset and say, " I'already told you before, you have to request that ahead of time, as if its my fault for not keeping track of all her rules. " It's rude and I don't need to be chastised like a child, especially in front of other customers. I pay too much money and give nice tips to be treated so harshly. They are losing workers and recently I have noticed they only have one other guy still working with them. Lin is friendly and gives good pedicures. She recently complained to me that no one wants to work for them. Perhaps if they created a kinder environment others would want to continue working there. I ended up calling back a couple hours later and just cancelling my appointment. I will no longer be going to Smile Nails or recommending them. I hope they stop and read these comments and work harder on their attitude.
