This was my first visit to Wonder Pho but I came with a group which gave me the opportunity to try several dishes. Wonder Pho is a fairly small restaurant (I think it would max out around 20 something odd people) but the decor is modern with some nice wood seats against one wall and smaller tables to the sides. Large windows on the side give you the chance to people watch as you eat and let a lot of light in. The staff is very friendly and efficient. As soon as I sat down I was asked about a drink and we were served water that had been soaked with Basil (which I love). This water would be refilled constantly throughout the meal, which I deeply appreciated after walking around for hours on a warm day. Our food came very quickly after we ordered. Here's a rundown of what I had: Summer Rolls (Shrimp) These rolls filled with veggies, shrimp and wrapped in a rice wrapper are among my favorite dishes at Vietnamese restaurants. When they are done well they offer a wonderful freshness thanks to the veggies and savory flavor from the shrimp. These lived up to that. The peanut sauce was a bit less savory than I am used to but a bit of Sriracha and Hoisin sauce helped with that. Each appetizer sized order comes with two rolls that are cut in half before being served. Popcorn Chicken I normally would not order this dish but we had kids with us and they wanted it. I'm glad they did! This is not just regular old breaded chicken fried with little flavor. Instead, they are well seasoned and they are fried up with leaves of Basil. The result is a surprisingly tasty chicken chunk with a savory breading around it. This was the most pleasant surprise of the meal. Pho with Lemongrass Chicken This Pho dish came with rice noodles in a wonderful beef broth. I was provided with the usual items to add into it including mint leaves, bean sprouts and jalapeno slices. The lemongrass chicken is served on the side, which is smart as you don't want to lose the smokiness and char on it by dunking it in broth for too long. Now, nothing about this dish qualifies as "best ever", but the broth was very good, the noodles were perfectly cooked and the lemongrass chicken was well cooked and tasty. Chicken Curry Noodle We were warned that this dish was spicy, but spoiler alert: it really wasn't. It had just the right amount of spice you want from a curry dish without overwhelming the flavor. The noodles were cooked well and the chicken was tasty. I think this is a good dish to share (which is what we did). Overall I really enjoyed my experience at Wonder Pho and I would happily go back if I'm in there area. read more

The pho here is solid. Been here a good number of times with friends and it's always really solid. I do like to add the extra dinosaur rib when I can. The service is friendly. The restaurant can feel crammed but you have to expect that in the city. read more

I vacillate between three and four stars. Wonder Pho is okay. Not great -- it lacks authenticity -- but okay. A former colleague joined me for lunch. She ordered com (rice) with a grilled pork chop, once they assured her it's prepared with lemongrass. I went with bun (vermicelli) with grilled lemongrass chicken and spring rolls. The food was under-seasoned, my chicken not as flavorful as when I had it with pho. It was also over-cooked. My friend thought the same. The staff is very nice. With the restaurant quiet at an off hour, we were welcome to sit and chat undisturbed. While I wouldn't go running to Wonder Pho, I suspect I'll be back when "okay" is good enough. Ambiance (5/5): It's a nicely open, clean space. This used to be 'Pho Shop' which was shut down. The set up and furniture didn't feel like it changed. Service (5/5): I went on a Sunday around 8:30pm and was surprised that there were 4 other dining parties. 2 servers for the late shift and felt like I was serviced very quickly and was in and out within 15 min. Pho (2/5): The standard beef pho broth tasted super bland and watery. The beef slices were dry and tough, of low quality. Portions were large. Overall, sadly would not recommend the pho. Maybe the other options on the menu are the way to go. The high reviews I suspect are due to the incentive of leaving a high review for a FREE coconut dessert. read more

(This is a 4.5 star review) I dropped by WonderPho during a work from home say for a quick and chill Thai meal. I love Thai food and am always excited to try new places out. I happen to pass by this place often when I'm watching my coworkers cats nearby, and figured it was a super convenient time to finally try it out. I was very pleased! It was pretty empty when I arrived a bit early for lunch, around 11:45, which was really nice, but this place got pretty busy with takeout orders throughout my stay which was a bit overwhelming. I love the vibes here. It's trendy. There are neon signs. The waiter/guy behind the desk was taking on a lot of work himself, but he was super nice and made it a point to work as quickly as possible. I ended up getting the grilled chicken pho ($15) which was delectable. The chicken was noteworthy. It was cooked and spiced really well. You get all the fix-ins for the pho, which in my opinion, tasted better when I added some of the basil and lime. They also give you a free gelatin dessert. To be honest, no idea what it is, but I really liked it. It was cool, sweet, and refreshing on a super hot day. One negative though, I did notice a bit of a tin taste in the water. The beef in the famous beef pho was way too grisly and fatty, also a little tough. Granted I tried something new so that was my mistake but the service was way lacking. Again it might be my fault for coming so close to 3pm, but honestly I had to ask for water refill, and they only came once in my 45 min late lunch. The shrimp summer rolls were just alright, the peanut sauce was lacking in some taste. I got the mango condensed milk shave ice to go and they didn't put a spoon or anything to eat this with. So it'll be fun trying to find something at my hotel room which doesn't come stocked with any kitchen items. Only redeeming quality from here was their offer of free coconut cake. I was craving hot soupy noodles and stopped by Wonder Pho for a late dinner. Staff members were attentive but their noodles were just fine. Started off with the grilled lemongrass chicken. The lemongrass came through but wish the chicken was more tender. I got the curry noodles were pretty decent. The shrimp curry soup was a tad too sweet for me but I appreciated how the curry flavors were present and strong, despite being in soup form (vs sauce/paste form). The pho noodles were al dente and shrimp pieces were pretty fresh. The pho, on the other hand, was a little disappointing. The pho broth was mostly salt/MSG and lacked true beef flavors. The beef and tripe pieces were fine, not of the best quality but ok for a quick meal. I also wish they gave us more herbs. I liked the viet pop music that they were playing. Would come back if I was feeling curious about their other non-noodle menu items! read more

We did take out from here and had such a great experience. It's a local stop that's been open for less than a year and I highly recommend you check it out if you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food. Also, they have good veggie options which can be hard to find for Vietnamese food in NYC. Note: when we went to pick up the other, we saw that the dine in seating was really nice and the restaurant has a casual but comfortable vibe Food: the veggie banh mi was pretty good. Felt close to California Little Vietnam food. It was perfectly spiced based on our preferences and the tofu was nicely marinated. The bread was crispy and hard as it should be as in a banh mi sandwich. I also really enjoyed the veggie crispy rolls. It came with the fresh lettuce that you're supposed to wrap around them when eating authentic Vietnamese food. And sauce it came with was just a soy sauce. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy and seasoned. Price: food was very reasonably priced. We got 2 veggie banh mi sandwiches and 1 veggie crispy spring roll and our total was less than $40. read more

First time trying Wonderpho after it rebranded. My friend and I actually got a pick up order instead of dinning in. Two of us got the pho tai and one of us got the pho cari with chicken. We ordered on DoorDash and were able to pick it up in around 10-15min. The food was packed very well with the noodle, toppings, and broth separated. The broth very flavorful and there was a lot of noodle but there was barely any beef and hence the 4 star. Given that the pho was $16, I would expect more meat with the pho. Overall, I think it was pretty good flavor wise. Just wish they would give more protein! read more

I was so happy with the grilled pork chop combo. It came with two freshly fried spring rolls cut in half and some sweet dipping sauce. They were piping hot and the meat filling was so juicy! The pork chops were moist and marinated very well, cut into thin strips. Because of this it was easy to get a bite combining the fresh veggies, pickled daikon, and the meat. Placed a takeout order here and when I walked in more than five minutes after the app I used told me the order was ready for pickup, it wasn't. When someone emerged from the kitchen with a bag, I asked about my order and gave my name. He looks at the receipt stapled to the bag and barks at me, "Not ready." I'm confused, so as he helps someone else I walk over to have a look for myself, thinking perhaps that is my order and he misheard my name (which is uncommon and regularly misheard). It's not my order, so I ask why the app says it's ready when clearly it isn't. "I told you it's not ready," he barks at me. When my order does emerge and I pick up my bag, I turn around and let him know, "the way you spoke to me was very rude." To which he responds, "I told you it wasn't ready! You don't trust me." I debate this with him for a minute, but it's clear that he's having a bad day and isn't receptive to the idea that he was being an a**. To be clear, the food was great. We started off with papaya and mango salad, which was good. The Vietnamese chicken wings were simply fried and the dipping sauce was aioli adjacent. I splashed them with Sriracha sauce. Our friends liked their entrees more than my wife and I did. They had the pork chops (big portion) and the salt and pepper fried seafood combo. My wife had the fried sole, which she characterized as "bready and gloppy." I had the Wonder Pho, which I found to be underwhelming. Our friends really like this place and go often. Delicious Vietnamese food with tons of vegan options! We had to consult with our server to make sure we didn't get anything that had fish sauce, but he was extremely helpful and guided us through an awesome order. When we asked what the vegan protein options were, they were pushing the fried tofu but also offered "white tofu" (presumably steamed) as well as another option not listed on the menu similar to mock duck.
