Tradsiyon was a later addition though had really solid braised meat and veggie bowls; Hainan Jones stepped into a midtown scene several years ago with no other similar Hainanese chicken spots in midtown (a few others thankfully are around today); Kopifellas brought uniquely Singaporean/Malasian tea and coffee options; I still remember the first bite of Prawnaholic's signature shrimp and rib noodles tasting that savory goodness for the first time; and most of all I will dearly miss this location of Lady Wong, where I rarely walked away empty handed. Each stall offering unique food options and independent of one another so there's no competition. Something for everyone. Really well maintained, tables are frequently cleaned and each place offers a buzzer so you're alerted when the food is ready. There's even a photo booth and a backyard type garden space once you get to the back of the space. That outdoor oasis is great for groups, not covered (no roof, just open seating) but offers mood lighting and bright decor. Music plays overhead in both spaces, on speakers and there are several TV's featuring sports channels and food videos inside the hall. This visit I tried the BBQ stall (think smokey brisket and mac and cheese) and hubby got Thai food (Pad Thai with shrimp). Both were great choices and reasonably priced overall. Daily lunch specials throughout at $14 a pop, per the advertisement on the front door area. Casual chic is how I would describe the place. Great air conditioning and great for groups of all sizes. High top seating, standard tables and booths available. Very comfortable and a nice foodie spot overall. We were never rushed and I saw folks just enjoying a night out. Totally recommend.

The main area features a lush faux-tree menagerie that give an outdoor vibe. Lots of tables, banquettes, and stadium seating. The lighting is a bit low if you happen to be there when the sunshine outside is limited, but the rest of the ambiance is soft and conducive to a social meal or gathering. One thing that The Hugh seems to attract is groups of people who are doing activities - I've seen book clubs, board game clubs, Mah Jong clubs, and business meetings taking place there, and The Hugh is greatly appreciative of the extra bodies coming in to host their groups and grab snacks too. So, why four stars instead of five? The men's room at the Hugh is honestly the most disgusting public restroom I have ever experienced in Midtown Manhattan - it smells like a dumpster inside of a subway station, there are flies (fruit flies, house flies, and more) EVERYWHERE in the men's room and in the corridor to the men's room, the soap dispensers have no soap in them, there is only one working air dryer for hands, and the water fountain and bottle-filling stations have been non-functional on all of my visits there. Having said that though, all of it is easily fixable with a cleaning schedule and a team that is properly trained to keep the space cleaned on a regular basis. Interestingly, all of my visits to The Hugh have been with a coed group and I asked the women who I've been there with if their restroom suffered from the same maladies and the answer each time was a resounding NO - so it's clear things are being done right in one restroom, but not the other. Overall, a fun place to eat and socialize, and excited to see how this place evolves.
