There was a smell of rank cooking oil that seemed to permeate the dining area. That bothered me the whole meal and made it hard to enjoy the food. Also, comparing K-Pocha to competitors, it's more expensive. If I am paying more, I expect it to be better. Service was decent and prompt. So, no issues there. The japchae was prepared well, the noodles were cooked properly to a tender texture and the chicken was thin but juicy. The server was friendly and helpful, though was busy with other customers and didn't remember to offer refills until asked. Very tiny issue and not nearly serious enough to dock a star. We got there around 7pm and it wasn't too busy, got seated right away at a table near their bar (so for solo diners you don't have to sit at a table, there is a bar section). Love the cute lighting fixtures, light noise (easy to have a conversation without fighting over the music or other people talking) and the spacious seating. Lots of parking as well in the plaza. We were seated right away, and it was neither loud nor crowded. A quick note on price. This is not cheap Korean food, and that is not a complaint. In my experience good Asian food rarely is, and you can taste where the money goes here. I had the beef bulgogi and the yuk gae jang. The bulgogi was amazing. It came out on a sizzling cast iron platter absolutely loaded with thinly sliced beef, mushrooms, onion, and scallion, with sesame seeds on top. Some places bury you in vegetables and hide a few scraps of meat underneath. Not here. It was all meat with the vegetables as a supporting act. Deeply flavorful, sweet and savory with a bit of char from the plate, and tender enough to eat without working at it. The yuk gae jang was also excellent. It arrived volcanically hot and took a hot minute to cool to something I could actually eat, but once it did, this was honestly the best soup I have had in a while. Shredded beef, soybean sprouts, scallion, strands of egg, and a broth with real depth under the heat rather than just chili for its own sake. The banchan deserve their own mention. Kimchi with good crunch and a proper fermented tang, soy glazed potatoes that were tender with a sweet, salty, sesame coating, pickled cucumber that was cool and snappy, crisp white radish cubes that reset your palate between bites, seasoned soybean sprouts with a little chili heat, and a bowl of perfectly cooked rice in a lidded stainless bowl. Nothing on the table felt like an afterthought. Service was solid throughout. Five out of five, and I am already thinking about what to order next time.
