Let me just say we had a horrendous experience with my original engagement ring. Prior to using Bryan at Wolf Diamonds I had used another very reputable, trusted, big name jeweler in Houston. Little did I know that I paid DOUBLE for my eternity band at "X" jeweler, in which the diamond quality promised was not in fact delivered. I then promptly returned my diamond to jeweler "X", took my money to Wolf Diamonds, and got nearly an entire carat larger for almost the same price. It doesn't stop there! Wow, what a HUGE difference in diamond quality! Both of my diamonds from "X" and Wolf were G colored, VVS2, emerald cut, yet the diamond from "X" looked like a piece of plastic next to my Wolf diamond. All my friends and family commented on what a stark difference in brilliance and cut that the diamonds had. Bryan Vaughn charges incredibly fair pricing for diamonds that can compare to BlueNile or any other online wholesaler. Bryan sources beautifully cut diamonds that are GIA certified. Keep in mind that both my diamonds had the EXACT same cut, color, and clarity- yet diamond "X" looked like plastic next to Bryan's diamond. We are so ingrained that it's all about the 4 C's, and that all diamonds are created/cut equally. They simply are not. Don't fall victim to just simply hearing these stats, and thinking you're getting a great diamond. If you asked two different artist to draw a dog, would they look identical? Why would diamond cutting be the same? To further affirm my jeweler choice, I had my engagement ring independently appraised and the appraisal came out 30% more than I had actually paid. While the theatrics and ceremony of whipping out a ring during a proposal may be customary, (hey, isn't that how it always happens in the movies?)...what most women really want is to pick out (or at least weigh-in on) the ring they'll love and admire for a lifetime. I've had numerous newly engaged friends secretly tell me the ring their beloved picked out for them "isn't something they'd pick out for themselves." I found Wolfe Diamonds by searching on Yelp (I'd actually scouted them out 6 months before my actual proposal, "just in case"). I was impressed with their large number of 5-star quality reviews (same for Google Reviews...as of this writing, they now have EIGHTY SIX 5-star reviews!). I could tell that this was a place we were likely to have a highly personalized experience, with quality product (and without the crazy high retail price-tag). Most people are aware of the huge markup (rip-off) in the diamond market. It's definitely a "caveat emptor" (buyer beware) kind of thing. The more education you can do up front the better. Most importantly, the more you save, the BIGGER and more beautiful your diamond will be (while still fitting within your budget). My fiancé called Bryan the morning after our engagement and he agreed to meet with us two hours later. We were ecstatic! Bryan greeted us like old friends and we felt immediately at ease. Bryan proceeded to explain the way his company works; he takes time to get to know each customer, works hard to understand what they are looking for, spends considerable time on education, not just about diamonds (i.e. grade, color, cut, etc.), but also the diamond market in general. We learned how all the "other guys" work, including mall jewelers, on-line wholesalers like Blue Nile and other local Houston jewelers and the "big guys" like Cartier, Tiffany and Harry Winston. The education was fascinating and we felt this really enabled us to make an intelligent buying decision, regardless of who we ultimately gave our business to. We started off discussing the shape of the diamond I wanted. It turns out, the shape and cut I thought I wanted....wasn't what I wanted at all. I brought up all of my "wish list" engagement rings I'd been saving on Pinterest, and Bryan went through each and every one, very patiently, to explain the pros and cons (and also pointed out a lot of "click bait"). Bryan also took a LOT of time to show us how many seriously flawed diamonds are on the market (hello Blue Nile) and what to watch out for with the cut. Bryan educated us patiently and thoroughly and we made it through "Diamond buying 101" in no time at all. Unlike most jewelers, there wasn't a single moment we felt we were being "sold to." We felt like a family friend was guiding us through one of the most important decisions of our lives. When all was said and done, I decided on an oval shape (thank you Blake Lively for showing the world how exquisitely classic and chic the oval cut is!). Read this if you are buying a diamond! It's going to be lengthy but it's very worth it. I decided a few months ago that it was time to ask my girlfriend to marry me. Now to give you some background I am type A, very serious, and an over the top kind of guy. I want to excel in social settings, work and anything else I am involved in. So when I decided to buy a diamond I was going to buy on heck of a diamond. I began hours and hours of researching diamonds. The specific diamond I was looking for was not as popular with women today. I was looking for an Asscher cut diamond. Once I was ready to begin looking for diamonds I asked my friends who were married where they went. They informed me of wholesalers in the Houston area and one friend in particular referred to Bryan at Wolf Diamonds. I was also cold calling various jewelers looking for Asscher cut diamonds (most jewelers don't carry them that's how low of demand there is for Asschers). I make an appointment and Bryan greets me in the main foyer of his building. We sat down and began talking about the type of diamond, the setting, etc. He also asked me where I had been and at that point it had on been a large chain store (for setting ideas). He encouraged me to go out and talk with other jewelers. He explained the diamond selling process and how most jewelry businesses functioned. He was very upfront and answered all of my questions (and I had a ton). I spent the next few weeks going from jeweler to jeweler discussing and looking at Asscher diamonds when I could. I would ask to hold the diamonds, look through Loupes, and discuss the process of how they would build the setting for the diamond, etc. Many of these places would have their in-house guys do the casting and one guy actually showed me the basement it was done it (was not pretty). Bryan had explained to me back in his office that these processes can lead to poor quality settings and that's why he only uses a company called Techform for his casting. During my trips I confirmed all the things Bryan had told me. Let me just say this, in a industry where a majority of customers only buy one time and the jewelers recognize it, what do you think happens? The need for fine quality is not needed as much as say a restaurant would need. Bryan explained to me how to spot who really was a quality diamond seller and who wasn't. I went back to him and told him I'd like him to find the diamond I described in the price range I wanted. One week later he sent me pictures of "[my] diamond". He had me come into the office and take a look at it. He explained to me all the details, he provided the GIA report, he let me hold it and look at it. I was able to inspect it with his Loupe, and to my surprise Bryan was the only one that showed me how to properly hold a Loupe (and I had used it many times in front of other jewelers). He also was the one to not turn on LED lights to make the ring sparkle more than it would in normal day light. You'll notice them flip those "special" lights on. He even let me walk outside with the diamond to see how it sparkled in the sun! I bought the diamond that day and gave him all of the details of how I wanted the setting made. He told me that he could do it exactly how I wanted it. All I had to do was pick it up when it was finished. Later on, Bryan called me and had me pick up the ring within the time he originally told me it would be completed. My Fiancée is in love with her diamond ring and is complimented all the time. I'm going back to him to get the wedding bands later this year. For everyone reading this, Bryan and Wolf Diamonds are the ones that should be selling you a diamond. I was on my way to another jeweler after visiting several others and not being comfortable about leaving my diamond rings. I'm so happy I accidentally found this one. I needed repair on a diamond ring with 40 fully cut diamonds around a two-carat center stone. A small diamond (which I had with me) needed to be reset in the pave setting, and the other diamonds needed to be checked to make sure they were securely in place and safe to wear. Immediately when I explained what I wanted, I was invited to go behind the counter to watch the jeweler who examined it while I stood next to him. They immediately quoted me a very reasonable price, and repaired the ring while I sat next to the jeweler. (I didn't request that - it was offered!) Then they cleaned and polished it. Additionally they cleaned another four-carat diamond ring that I was wearing. Neither has ever looked better; but more importantly, I've found a jeweler that I trust - and that's not easy. Tim and his team did a fantastic job in perfectly polishing and rhodium plating my previously dull yellow and scratched up white gold diamond ring.
