On Thursday before the Sunday event at our church, I reached out to discuss our rainy day plan (since it was forecast to rain), they said "I think it's best to cancel if it rains. We never had a good experience in the past." **Note, the word IF.** I replied back that we could have people eat indoors and that we had an awning they could park under right by the doors. Regardless of rain, people would still stay to eat. No response. On Saturday, I texted to let them know that if it was light rain the next day, we planned to go ahead with the event but if it was storming, we'd cancel. Either way, I'd message them by 8 am the next day because they were scheduled to arrive by 10:30 am. No response. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. On Sunday morning, I texted to them know the forecast didn't show rain until later in the afternoon and would they please let me know if they were coming? No response. I called and texted several times. No answer, no response. I was finally forced to order pizza for about 100 people so we would just have enough food to feed everyone. I don't know how they stay in business with service like that!!

And when his thoughts on said chicken salad turn out to be true, you order it. The truck was the Scratch truck, and it was parked in the Ridgeway Loop today for lunch. The corporate neighborhood is their regular spot - there's a built in customer base, it's far away from downtown, and it's easy to park and still be following the rules of the city food truck ordinance (50 feet from restaurants downtown, 300 feet away everywhere else). Since Scratch has no commerical kitchen, everything is made fresh daily in the truck. I let the friendly guys in the truck pick my lunch - the aforementioned chicken salad and a huge order of chocolate bread pudding. I started with the bread pudding - it was hot, and I have a really hard time resisting baked goods. The consistency was perfect - it was almost liquid in some places and there were little crunchy caramelized edge pieces. And as I already mentioned, the chicken salad was awesome. I ordered mine in a wrap ($8), and the grilled, seasoned salad came rolled up in a tortilla with romaine lettuce and tomato slices with a small side salad. I recently judged the Best Memphis Burger competition and sadly to say this burger was NOT in it. I think this burger goes toe toe with the grand champion Elboe burger! After a brief conversation with Jared (owner ) about the event he told me that someone else that judged the competition said that he actually had the best burger in Memphis so I had to see for myself.... This amazing thick juicy double patty burger with Gourmade aioli sauce, white cheddar cheese, a peppered green, butterd pickles and pickled red onion (which I admittedly took off because onions make me gag) sorry if that was tmi. But this burger was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was just outstanding with flavor and the brioche bun that was soft but yet firm enough to hold everything together. The only thing I wish is that the pizza was cooked a bit longer as far as the tortilla. It was just really had to pick up and eat because it was flimsy.
