Even though we were out of network, she went the extra mile and secured an authorization from our insurance so we could receive in-network benefits--something I truly appreciated. I tried 3 times to redirect the convo to the topic I came to discuss & she would change the topic . My friend recommended I talk to a psychologist because I was so stressed out and I reluctantly agreed. Meeting Dr. Cicconi was like a breath of fresh air. Her office was very welcoming. There was a couch in the waiting area and a love seat in her office. Her little office was furnished to give it a comfy, homey feel. I found the hour long visits went by very quickly because I had so much to talk about. Dr. Cicconi was very warm, personable and experienced in her field. She was able to reassure me and give me lots of great advice that I still use to this day! She was also able to recommend a progesterone cream (Kokoro balance) that helped me so much my hormonal issues went away! And she recommended a quality brand of melatonin supplements (Source Naturals sublingual) to help me sleep. After seeing her only a handful of times my health had improved so much that I decided to stop seeing her, but to keep her number just in case anything changed. Over the years I have tried different brands of progesterone cream and melatonin just to try to save money, but time and again I have learned that those two brands she recommended are the best I can find. After I stopped seeing her I recall bumping into her at the movie theater a few weeks after my last appointment. I was excited to see her and I gave her a big hug and thanked her for her help. She was happy that I was doing so well and did not pressure me to keep coming, (like some places do sometimes). Even though it has been so long since I have seen Dr. Cicconi, I am still so glad I did because, without her help I don't know where I would be. I had a 60-minute initial intake appointment on January 15, 2026 and was prescribed Lexapro with instructions to follow up in one month to monitor how the medication was working. Shortly after the visit, I discovered that my insurance had been billed for both a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation and an additional 60-minute psychotherapy session. I did not receive a separate psychotherapy session. When I questioned the billing and asked that the claim be corrected and resubmitted to insurance, the office refused to rebill the claim. Instead, they simply removed the portion I would have owed but kept the insurance payment for the psychotherapy service. Shortly after raising this concern, my follow-up appointment was canceled without any prior notice. When I reached out to confirm my appointment date, I was told it had been canceled and that I needed to find another provider. I was never informed ahead of time, never given formal written notice, and no transition plan or assistance was offered -- despite the fact that I had just started a new psychiatric medication that requires monitoring. It was very clear that my treatment was dropped as a retaliatory response simply because I questioned their billing practices. Patients should be able to ask legitimate questions about billing discrepancies without fear of losing access to care. I also found the front desk staff member, Katherine, to be extremely rude and condescending in her communication. Instead of addressing concerns professionally, the responses felt dismissive and unhelpful. To make matters worse, I have repeatedly requested my medical records from my January 15 visit and still have not received them despite multiple follow-ups. This entire experience has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. In my opinion, this practice seems more concerned about money than providing proper patient care. Because of these concerns, I have reported this situation to my insurance company for potential billing fraud and have also filed a complaint with the Medical Board of California. I would strongly caution anyone considering this provider. A psychiatrist out of all professions! One is supposed to care for patients mental health and well being!
