There is nothing on the website that highlights the additional fees. The additional fees includes the labor wage, charged in 15 minute increments, the heavy item charge applied to any item over 50 lbs, and the charge for recycling air conditioners which was $50 a piece. The website doesn't say it and neither did the free estimate despite specifically mentioning these items! When I learned of these additional charges, when Jon stood in my kitchen and explained them to me, I was in no position to say no. I had to turn in my keys the next day. The items needed to go. The initial estimate to the final cost was off by 50%. On top of it all, I really was left with the impression that very little would be donated and most would be trashed despite the excellent condition the items were in. I will not dispute any other statement I made about the guys doing the actual work. They were awesome and did an amazing job. I feel for them because between the website and the worst estimator aka just want to make the sale! guy their company puts them in a horrible position of dropping all those extra fees in-person. College Hunks shows no care nor empathy for either their haul away customers or their employees by poorly setting expectations and then letting their field crew take the heat for their utter lack of transparency. I will not be using their services in the future.

The Recycling Depot - Binford vs the recycling depot‍

I Came Here On Purpose...and They Blew It!…read more With gas pushing $6 per gallon, I decided to explore a closer scrap yard option instead of driving all the way to Kent. So I came to The Recycling Depot deliberately -- on purpose -- to compare their prices against other yards in the Seattle area. I left knowing one thing for certain: they don't know what fair pricing looks like. They paid me $0.03/lb for steel. That's right -- three cents. My load was 700 lbs of steel, and they handed me $21.00 for it. That same steel would've been worth around $42 elsewhere (or more depending on the yard). Add in stainless, aluminum, and brass, and my total ticket came to $31.25. Laughable. For comparison, Binford Metal Recycling in Kent would've paid me double on steel alone. That's $21 straight out of my pocket they basically stole -- and that's just one metal. The difference on a full load like mine? Easily $50-$60. Real money. Real loss. And the worst part? No transparency. No explanation. Just: weighed it, printed it, paid you, next. If you don't know scrap prices, you'll get taken. If you do, you'll never return. They failed the test. I came prepared, and they got exposed. I won't be back -- and neither should you!

I don't know how they found their pricing, but I reviewed the receipt and looked up the pricing and they paid 1/2 of what they should have. i still walked away with $100, but it should have been $250 after I looked up the pricing for each metal. it was convenient that they're open 7 days a week. need to work on their customer service and being more accountable and fair.
