Two weeks ago, I dropped off my son's Samsung tablet at uBreakiFix, located at 664 Loudon Rd.,…read moreLatham, NY, to have the charging port replaced. At the time of drop-off, I specifically authorized only the replacement of the charging port and was quoted $180 for the repair. Other than the charging issue, the tablet was in like-new condition. About a week later, I received a call informing me that the repair was complete. I was then told the total cost was $240 because they had replaced both the charging port and the battery. I immediately reminded them that I had only authorized the charging port replacement. When I arrived to pick up the tablet, it was completely dead and would not charge. I asked whether the charging port had actually been replaced, but the employee was unable to answer my question. When I asked if the battery had been replaced, he said yes. I then requested documentation showing the battery replacement since I was being charged for it. He told me they do not provide that information. I explained that I was paying for the repair and had every right to receive documentation for the parts installed. Instead of answering my questions, the employee took the tablet into the back room and never returned. Since then, the tablet has remained at the store, and the business has refused to return my calls or meet with me to explain the unauthorized charges or the status of my son's tablet. Based on this experience, I am extremely concerned about the honesty and business practices of this company. I simply want an explanation for the unauthorized charges, documentation for any work that was actually performed, and the return of my son's tablet in working condition.

I later heard that other places say they'll replace it and just clean it but these guys were honest and quick.

I made it very clear to the clerk that I lived in Albany, wanted the phone fixed that evening, or I would have to go somewhere else. He charged me in advance, took all my personal information to gain access to my phone, told me to come back in an hour and a half, and when I did, told me he did not have the part, couldn't fix it, but had an awesome deal involving swapping my phone for a replacement that he assured me was much better. I refused, he pushed and said I was missing out on an awesome deal, refunded the money on my credit card, and I left. The next day I discovered that he had not even refunded the money correctly and had to make a 20 minute call to the credit card company to get compensated for the cost of tax that he had apparently planned to keep. BAH! Terrible experience. Next day I went to the i fixit in Colonie Center. No payment in advance, professional service, checked to make sure he had parts in advance, charged about 50$ less than the guy in Oneida had charged, and fixed it smoothly and quickly. Just like they should! Thank you!
