The first gentleman I spoke to said it's been a while since my last eye exam, but not to worry about it I obviously needed glasses. So, I picked out my frames and the guy gave my information to some heavy-set woman at the desk ( I forgot her name) and she REFUSED to help me until I had an updated eye exam. Which of course is an extra $75 in their pocket. Which I can't afford because I just lost my job and my insurance and can't even afford eye care. I wouldn't have gone to the eye doctor or to get new glasses if the piece of crap glass frame didn't break. So now they are holding my sight hostage until I can come up with all this money for the eye exam, frames, lenses and whatever other BS they try to sell me. Also Warning they want 100% payment upfront. Apparently, there's new management and it got even worse.

Came in an at 5, sat down, filled out initial paperwork, and waited. Was up next until another worker asked me what time my appointment was. Told her it was originally at 6 but was told that I could come in earlier. She said you're going to have wait now until 6. I said that's not what the other worker said. She spoke with the other worker who then said, "I told him that that he would have to until 6." LOL. But the worse is probably the HIPPA violation. Received an email from them about filling out paperwork. Opened the attachment and someone else's information is on there. Their name, address, DOB, and insurance info. Emailed them back telling them what they did. Didn't receive a response. Otherwise, the doctor is very nice and explained everything to me. Prices are the same as anywhere else.

They accept my union medical coverage which is definitely a plus. Shortly after filling out the paperwork I was called in to have my eyes examined...very professional, thorough process. I needed just a touch stronger reading glasses than I currently had, and the progressive lenses were explained to me as I good option. I went back outside to pick out frames. They have a large selection to choose from, and offer good opinions on styles. The frames are also reasonably priced. Finally the frames and lenses were measured and my visit for the day was complete, and my new glasses should be ready in a few days. Everyone who works there is knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Out of pocket expenses seem minimal. And the location is easy access with ample parking. I highly recommend Central Nassau Optical!

UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE - Disrespectful and dishonest…read more Before the exam, I presented my insurance voucher. No one mentioned any issue with coverage. The doctor finally saw me (25 minutes after my appointment time) and only AFTER the exam was completed did Vanessa at the front desk suddenly claim it "doesn't cover contact lenses." This should have been communicated upfront. Anything else feels misleading at best. Felt extremely deceptive and dishonest on their part. When my mom calmly asked for clarification, Vanessa became increasingly condescending and dismissive, speaking to her in a patronizing tone. Another employee then inserted herself into the situation and immediately escalated it by raising her voice and talking over us. At NO point at all were we being rude. There was no reason for them to be hostile. We were simply asking reasonable questions. My mom doesn't speak perfect English, and the way they addressed her felt unnecessarily harsh and lacking in basic respect or patience. It created a very uncomfortable dynamic that no customer should have to deal with. I had to call them out on this and told them that they were being rude, to which they simply doubled down. Even after repeatedly asking why we weren't just INFORMED about the lack of coverage before the exam, no one could provide a straight answer...just deflection and attitude. Not only have I been to a handful of different eye doctors before and have never experienced this, but also I've been coming here since I was a child for my glasses, which makes this even more disappointing. This office lacks transparency, accountability, and respect for its clients. They are perfectly willing to provide services without clearly explaining costs. And then they'll try to treat you poorly if you question it. Take your money somewhere that actually values honesty and basic customer service.

I've had my glasses for a year now (since Jan 2025) and if I could give it negative stars, I would. I left there with glasses that were too big for my face and no adjustments made to them. I paid a pretty penny for these fancy Gucci glasses with progressives, but no one at Cohen's adjusted the glasses nor steered me away from these glasses which now I realize were the wrong fit for me. I spent the whole year trying to figure out why I couldn't see - thinking something was wrong with my eyes. My new optometrist advised that because the glasses were too big, they were sliding off my face, and the progressives were not placed properly in my eyesight rendering the progressives useless. I'd have to make ridiculous head movements for the progressives to work and it's not practical. Save your time & money and go to a real optician.
