A walk from the Holiday Inn I'm staying at. But I'm at my Wits End finding the place based on the asinine directions from the hotel clerk. Same every hotel. Anyhow, it wasn't so bad as I met a employee from the shooting range between the hotel and here that pointed me in the right direction. Wits End Saloon is totally worth the 500 ft walk from the hotel. Happy Hour is until 9 and encompasses an amazing array of food and beverage choices. I quickly met Vance who was on his way out but took the time to tell me of the specials available. For starters, I'm drinking a large shot of a $15 tequila for $5! Yes, 5 f'n dollars. Thanks Lance. Uh oh...tequila kicking in. The place seats only a dozen at the bar and maybe less at the tables. The decor is cool but war and cozy. The music is rock and blues and perfect. Deep track stuff of great artists. The menu is gastropub fare, eclectic but something for everyone. Did I say the Happy Hour was dirt cheap considering the quality of choice, food and drinks available? I haven't gotten my food yet but I'm in love with this place as you can tell. Uh oh, tequila feeling good. Sippin' tequila...for $5! Worth a mention: large selection of spirits and beer. Many included in Happy Hour. Only problem I have at this point is the young bartender definitely screwed up my order by putting my Happy Hour samplers and entree (Mushroom & Swiss Burger) together. It's been a solid 15-20 since I ordered and no food yet. No wonder the fancy tequila is crossing my eyes with this empty stomach. So I did get all my food together but it turned out fine. My burger was a very good just ok, the fries not so good and my two HH tacos, one Lentil, one Carne Asada, were very, very good. Wits End Saloon - A $15 drink for $5 during Happy Hour??? Unheard of. All Hail Wits End!! - Bars Near Me - Timonium, Maryland

My name is Charles Karpowski... but my friends call me Chochie. Most people call me Charles though. Anyway, I was very excited about going to Wits End Saloon in Timonium, Maryland for the first time. See my wife Sharon was having her book club on Friday (it's not really a book club... yet an excuse for her best friend Donna to "trash" her ex husband Jeff. I never had a problem with Jeff. He was always nice to me... and it's like mother always said "If no one never did anything to you, that doesn't mean that you should do nothing bad to them"). While Sharon had her "Book Club", I needed a place to lay low and eat dinner while the Ya Ya Sisterhood filled our condo. So based on a co-worker's recommendation (a very nice woman named Bethany from the insurance company I work for), I went to Wits End for some grub. Bethany likes to go for Trivia. I thought that I would try my hand at trivia, as I know a great deal about television shows like Barney Miller, The Odd Couple (the original with Jack Klugman!) and Andy Griffin. It turns out that it was Friday, so Trivia was not going to happen again until Thursday. I'd have to settle for the grub instead. I ordered my food from the bartender. He was a ginger fellow. He didn't seem like a genius but he seemed nice enough. He asked me if I was interested in Tacos. I said "si por favor". I don't really speak Spanish but I like to have a good time. I'm actually not to familiar with ethnic food but I figured "Hey! When in Timonium!" I ordered something called "lentils" on my tacos. They were very tasty. I did not initially order alcohol, as Sharon does not like it when I drink, so I stuck with tap water. While eating my tacos, I met a gentleman named Andrew. We chatted about tacos. I asked him if he has ever tried Propecia (because he is not doing great in the hair department). Andrew said that he tried it before but it had side effects that he was not crazy amount. I have personally benefitted from this drug. I may not have the mame that I used to have but it's better than nothing! We bonded over our children. We both have three children and I think that fatherhood is a good friendship creater as my 1 boy and 2 girls can help me relate to Andrew and his 2 boys and 1 girl. Though I have to say... his daughter sounds like a nightmare! I won't hold that against him though! After talking to him for several minutes, Andrew offered me a drink. I said "what the hey" and took him up on an offer of Grandpa's Root Beer. It was delicious. When I offered to buy Andrew a drink for a nice return on his gesture, i found out that this was no customer and that he was the owner of this establishment! Holy cow! Such a down to earth guy for having such a successful business. We continued talking about our love of duck pin bowling and the music of REO Speedwagon. I asked Andrew if he'd want to exchange numbers and continue our new friendship and he politely declined. I'm sure that he gets offers like this all the time, so I understand. We chatted for another moment or four and then he had some work to do. Andrew was a gentleman and said "nice to meet you Charles" and I said "Nice to meet you! But you can call me Chochie". We shook hands and went our separate ways. I paid our my tab which was a reasonable price of $12.13. I tipped the bartender $4. If my wife was there, she would have insisted on tipping 3 dollars as that is closer to a standard 20%... but hey! Not on boys night out! LOL! I took an Uber home because I was unsure if I should drive home after my alcoholic beverage. It was a fairly easy application and only took 20 minutes to download. The driver took me home which was 8 minutes away and he even let me sit in his car and wait while I waited for the last member the last member of the On Golden Pond book club to leave. I tipped the Uber driver handsomely as well. His name was Mike. I'm not sure if he has a Yelp page but I highly recommend him if you use devices like Uber. The next morning, Sharon drove me to get my car on the way to church (I'm not a religious person... I just like the music). When I was getting into my car, I saw my old friend Andrew sweeping the sidewalk in front of Wits End. I thought about not bothering him but I wanted to extend my deepest gratitude for the drink. I introduced Andrew to my wife. Andrew was a good "wing man" when he said "You're even prettier in person Sharon" (wowza!) Sharon ate it up. She wasn't made at me for drinking the night before and she even agreed to go to Wits End with me and check out the comedians at the Wits End "open mic" (a comedy show where anyone is allowed to perform if they go early and sign up). I am a big fan of comedy (especially I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke) and would love to watch. Who knows? Maybe I'll even try it if Sharon lets me! Anyway, I hope that you like my review Andrew. Nice little cozy bar that has merit on its own beyond the attached comedy club!! Service is friendly and knowledgeable. It's quiet unless right before a show. Several well placed TVs, and HUGE list of whiskeys. Food- stick with burgers, fries, my wife likes the salad. Burgers and fries actually very good!! The first word that comes to mind is wow. Let me start by saying this place is hard to find. It is around the back and there is no sign to direct your attention. (It is technically part of Magooby's, but you wouldn't know unless you do your research). The bartender, who I would assume is the owner, is rude! From the moment we walked in, we were barely acknowledged. The deals that are posted on their website and Facebook are not honored. Trivia night is a bust, unless you have supersonic hearing. Subpar food, expensive drinks and a lackadaisical bartender who acts like it's a chore to wait on you make this place a hard pass. As a group who frequents establishments offering trivia, there are much better places than this one. Save your time and money! read more

It was empty at 6PM on a Saturday which was good for us since we were there with 2 kids. The beer list was only bottles and cans (no drafts). The cocktail I had was very strong. The food was mediocre at best. Nothing special. Not sure I'd go here for food or drinks but not a bad place to stop before a comedy show at the adjoining venue. read more

Wit's End and the attached Magooby's are fantastic. I live 12 minutes from the Harrisburg Comedy Zone and I'd rather drive over an hour to get to Wit's End and Magooby's instead. From his appearance on Laughfinder, owner Andrew seems like a no nonsense guy with no patience or imagination for role playing games, but a nice guy all the same. I really like this place. It is small and very relaxed. They have free comedy shows every Tuesday night and on Thursday their is a trivia night and me a my boys hit that up. I like the drink specials. Its a cool place mostly people my age and up which is nice not a lot of annoying young 20 year olds. read more

Bait and switch! Plenty of deals advertised on their website for Thursday night trivia, none of which we honored. Asked about the specials on the website and the bartender informed us there were none. Website also states trivia starts at 7:30, again was wrong. Sound was terrible in there and I guess if I could drink from whatever type of whiskey I wanted to for free (like the bartender did out of his own shot glass on the side) I wouldn't care about giving my customers a deal either! Have been here a few times but this time may have sealed the deal about not coming back. Update: I had never been to Wits End on a Thursday like the owner thinks, have only been on Monday (when they used to be open on Monday) and Wednesday when they have their 1/2 off burger special which they do honor as advertised. I had never been on Thursday but assumed their special which I have attached a picture of their website would also be honored. Update#2: I don't think I ever said I was refused service because I wasn't, I was just upset that the online specials were not honored as advertised. I bought 2 full priced drinks, and please ask anyone in the bar until 10:00ish and I don't think anyone in there was a problem. Don't appreciate the false accusations. Update #3: it's pretty funny that in Mr. Unger's comments I have changed 3 different times. I started as just a fake reviewer, then the second time a belligerent customer who wasn't served, then a customer who was offered specials but refused and claimed I was touting that I was gonna leave a fake review. I am not changing my story and was just upset, now I can see that the staff takes after their owner. read more

Wits End is unassuming and charming. It was a bit tough to find (entrance is on the side of a building, not immediately apparent from the parking lot), and was smaller than I expected - it has a few high tops, but is primarily a bar. The good news is - it's a great bar! The bartenders were really friendly and, despite their warning that they were slightly understaffed, they were very attentive. My favorite drink was the Naughty and Nice, with just the right amount of tart flavor. And they have bourbon flights!! Happy hour specials were great, with savings on both food and drink (website has them listed in the 'Events' section). They did forget an extra basket of fries, but quickly rectified it when I mentioned them. The vintage decorations and low artificial light give this place a great vibe. read more

This is a new bar attached to Magoobys Jokehouse. Great place to go for a pre or post drink when there is a comedy show next door. There is a happy hour from 4:30-7:30 with half price apps like chicken finger basket etc. for like $5--can't beat that. There are also free comedy shows there on Tuesdays and Showtime Trivia on Thursdays. I have been going regularly with a group of people to play trivia on Thursdays and it's been a lot of fun--they have weekly prizes and a chance to play for $1,000 at the end of the season! There is a huge selection of bourbons but I just stick to the beer specials during trivia--$2 domestics---that's about as good as it gets for me~ read more

Go after a hilarious comedy show at Magooby's or just go to hang out. I don't do a lot of reviews, but when something strikes me, I review it. ORDER THE BURGER. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss with the red wine mayo, I say order the burger, but it's not just a regular old burger - it is locally raised black angus beef from Roseda Farm in Monkton. I've had burgers from all over the world - and this one is outstanding. Seriously, get one. If you don't eat meat, I can't help ya. The fries are top notch as well. They have great specials on drinks throughout the week as well as great service. I don't know jack about whiskey, but I'm sure the selection is also excellent - as I've been told. They have a great open mic show every Tuesday, Hlaf Priced Bourbon, Burger (HALF PRICE) and Beer night on Wednesdays and trivia on Thursdays with $2 domestics. Get some! read more

I wavered between a 3 and 4 star for this establishment but the pros definitely outweigh the quite significant con of this place. We wound up here by chance because our pre-Magooby first dinner choice fell through and my handy dandy Yelp app gave me the information for Wits End. Here's the breakdown: Ambiance- spectacular decor with a saloon feel for sure. The lighting is great and decor takes you back. You'd half expect a piano player if the place wasn't so small. The noise level can get very loud if there's a good amount of patrons so the quaintness gets overrun with a sports bar feel. Size- again, small. Comfortably, it seats about 8-10 around the bar and there's about 8 2 seater hightops surrounding the perimeter of the bar but in my opinion the placement of the hightops makes it a bit crowded. Food & Drink- great selection and taste. I had the lentil (yes, you read that right) tacos on the recommendation of the bartender and they were seasoned perfectly. A little messy as you would expect but a good meal nonetheless for a non-meat eater. My boo thang enjoyed his mushroom swiss burger and fries as well. The drink menu is DIVINE and so are the combinations listed on the menu. We didn't order any drinks since we needed to satisfy the two item requirement at Magooby's and had an early start for the next day but if I visit this establishment it will surely be to try the drinks. Looking at the bartender in action, it looks like she knew her stuff and was quick in delivery given that the place was pretty busy. Service- this is where things fell flat for me. We showed up and a) weren't greeted by anyone and b) kind of blindly stumbled over to the bar because we couldn't find any waitstaff to welcome us or advise us of what's what in this place. Apparently you have to order your food at the bar which is pretty inconvenient given that you have to fend your way around patrons sitting at the bar and also ordering (which also makes it hard to tell which is which). When I gave our food order we had to leave a card at the bar or pay up front which was a little off-putting. Our food was brought out by random staff that once we saw them drop off our food, we never saw them again. No one checked to see if our food was okay or anything. If there's going to be separate seating areas for actual diners, there should be staff on hand to check on them. It's quite inconvenient to have to walk up to the bar for every little request pertaining to your MEAL. It's also inconvenient that in order to pay my food bill, I had to endure the awkward waiting that comes from standing next to someone trying to enjoy their drink at the bar while you wait for the bartender to acknowledge you so you can just pay your dining bill. I do commend the bartender because she had a lot of work to do between food orders and making drinks for the patrons. Although I occasionally saw a few other staff members helping with the drinks, I believe they were for the comedy club patron's drinks. For a quick bite before or after a comedy club show I highly recommend if it's just a random hang out night but I wouldn't suggest it for a romantic or intimate date because the mood will be spoiled. I also wouldn't find myself leaving the house just to come visit this place for dinner-not on a Friday or Saturday at least. read more

I went here about a month ago...lots of choices for those who love whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. I ordered a cocktail and it was great but very strong for my tastes. However, my boyfriend and his friends love whiskey, bourbon, and scotch and really enjoy it here! It's awesome that it is connected to the joke house, but you can also go here without having to go to Magooby's. I ordered a burger from here and wasn't aware that they only cook it one way, so I wasn't a huge fan of the burger, but I will just have to order something different the next time I go. If you've ever wanted to find that perfect neighborhood place where the drinks are strong and expertly made, where the ballgame is on but great music is playing through the speakers, where the burgers are top notch and bartenders know who you are and what you drink, this is the place. I want to start this review by saying I am NOT a heavy drinker... My wife and I went in here on chance as someone told her it was a nice place... WOW! I had the Sour Mash. Never had one but will in the future. The service was okay but not as friendly as many places. We did not try the food but will next time. The one warning I have is this... I ordered fish tacos and they took forever and then they were ice cold.. The bartender was always gone so service was awful.. A friend of mine told me about Wits End and as I'm a fan of bourbon (and burgers) I had to stop by. We had the place to ourselves at first, as it was a Monday, and the young guy behind the bar was very attentive and clearly knew his stuff! Two of the three bourbons I had were his recommendation (Bulleit 10 yr and Woodford reserve double Oak) and I loved them both. My wife had the doorman which the bartender said he'd come up with. She was very happy with it. Your first bourbon is half price on Monday and her cocktail was included. We both enjoyed our burgers as well, which we're also half price. We will be back! read more

This is a cool establishment has a nice feel to it. There's a large drink selection, however a small food selection. We ordered fish tacos and a burger with loaded fries. The food itself was okay. Decent place to sample and drink whiskeys, rues and bourbons. Although the lighting was a bit dark and the music up way too loud, that didn't take away from the spirits. 6 different Flight selections gives you a chance to taste a wide variety of labels without breaking the bank. Food is average and despite the writes up, service was slow even though we were sitting at the bar. Bartender didn't even give us utensils or refill our waters until we ask for it when our meal came. I think the reason for poor service is because they know hey are here to pour spirits. Wed night is half price burgers and your first drink. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and a tumbler of buffalo trace. The drink definitely over shadowed the burger. We followed up with flights of drinks. I had the high noon flight ($15) focusing on the high west label. I was able to sample the HW campfire with out dropping the normal $20 for it. My buddy had the new in town ($15) focuses on mid-level bourbons (redemption, breaker and nomad). For $30 it was a good deal. That alone make with the visit. Overall, it is worth the stop but if you come here for food, you'll be disappointed. But if you love a good spirit, stop by. read more
