What really struck me about them was how grounding they were throughout the whole pregnancy and birth and postpartum. They listened to my concerns and helped us feel comfortable being advocates for ourselves, arming us with information. There were a few moments during the pregnancy, particularly at the end, where I had some concerns and fears, and they offered to jump on the phone pretty quickly and talk through options. That they were both so willing to support and help me reframe the multiple situations was really helpful and accommodating. I felt heard throughout every step of the way. Francesca was our doula the actual day of our child's birth. She was with us for 4 hours (during active labor) and really helped me focus on my breathing, which made the most intense moments more bearable. She was incredibly encouraging and helped my partner and I do what we could in a [at times] challenging situation (related to the hospital). I was so thankful she could be there. We also enjoyed meeting with both Vickie and Francesca postpartum. Even though this was our second child, we both learned some new things about newborns - and ourselves. They also run a weekly, virtual support call with other pregnant women, which was a nice time to hear from them as well as meet other women on their various journeys. Vickie and Francesca's offerings include additional options, like childbirth education, partner support groups, and movement classes. They support women and families all over New York. I would definitely recommend your looking into them if you're even remotely thinking about hiring a doula. Our experience would have been a lot more difficult if we hadn't had them supporting us along the way.

Baby Caravan was great - when I reached out to them they answered all of my questions and before hiring a doula I was able to video chat with her so we could get to know each other. I ended up hiring Allie for post-partum visits and she was wonderful. So friendly and kind and she was so knowledgeable! She really supported me with breastfeeding techniques, helped me sort thru baby gifts and had great tips about everything from diaper changing techniques to how to properly sterilize baby bottles. She made the transition to parenthood so much easier and really helped me develop my confidence as a new mom. She also just provided some much needed relief, compassion and extra hands during those crazy first few weeks. As a 42-year-old woman trying to have her first baby, my husband and I knew we needed support through our journey. My OB/GYN practice, Spring OB/GYN in Soho, has a list of recommended doulas, and we called every single one, including Megan. After speaking with Megan, we knew immediately she was the doula we wanted to work with because of who she is and how she works. She is kind, committed, and warm, while also being clear, transparent, approachable and available. She loves what she does, she cares deeply about her clients, and you see that first hand as she goes above and beyond to support their success. The more we met and spoke with Megan, the more we experienced first-hand how deeply experienced, knowledgeable, and helpful she was. We attended every virtual workshop she offered and both my husband and I found them invaluable in preparing and educating us for the big day. The day I went into labor, (January 12, 2024) we texted with Megan right away and through the entire time leading up to leaving our apartment 18 hours later. When it was time to head to NYU (our hospital), we felt ready because of all her coaching. She offered to meet us at our apartment in Boerum Hill or the hospital, and we opted for the latter. Meghan was there waiting for us when the uber dropped us off and as we walked into the hospital together, we knew we had a true champion on our team. Over the next 24 hours, she supported me, guided me, supported and guided my husband, helped us advocate for ourselves and advocated for us. She was extraordinary. I had gone into the hospital with my birth plan, thanks to Megan, and I really wanted to have a vaginal birth if possible. After nearly 24 hours in labor, I was working towards a deadline. If I didn't hit a progress mark, I would have to have a c-section, but then I went into involuntary labor. We asked for the doctor, and were told that someone else could check-in with us. We knew we wanted to see the OB and Meghan helped get the doctor sent to our room - 16 minutes later we had a beautiful little boy. Not only did Megan get us prepared for a successful labor and delivery, she has been with us ever since. She responded to some frantic questions early in our parenthood, and has always been happy to text or hop on the phone to talk us through any topics or concerns. We hope to have another baby in a year or two, and she will be the first person we call to work with her again. We could not recommend her any more highly. She is the best in her field.

She even took photos the moment my daughter was born that I'll cherish forever. I was so fearful of birth and left with such happy memories of the entire experience. My husband and I had a…read moresession scheduled for 1:1 prenatal birth classes, and 5 minutes before the session, she messaged and said she wasn't coming because a client was in labor. Ok, that is fine. I understand that. We rescheduled for the next night. 15 min past the hour, I messaged her and asked if she was coming since she still wasn't at our apartment. She messaged back 45 min later, "No, not tonight." What! not tonight?? What does that even mean? I have never had a professional message me something with such a laissez-faire attitude. That may not seem like a big deal by rescheduling one appointment last minute and then not showing up to another. However, I would not want that from my doula. What if I was in labor and couldn't get in touch with her, or she just dropped the ball because she was tired from previous labor and didn't attend? I think it's important to communicate and even overly communicate with prenatal and especially clients later in their pregnancy. I want to be clear that we didn't hire Lisa as a doula for labor, only for prenatal sessions. However, we strongly considered hiring her as our labor doula and are very disappointed with this outcome. Also, my feedback for the prenatal 1:1 sessions is that they are not customized for your birth. We wanted to focus on when the baby comes home, and we did two x2 hour-long sessions and never touched on that. Lisa also moves slowly through the material. There is wasted time rather than moving through the material in a structured manner. I found myself getting frustrated by the amount of time we spent on side conversations rather than the material at hand. At times it felt awkward. I wish our experience with TBC was different.

I really went back and forth about this and I'm sorry I have to say this for the sake of other new…read moreparents. Maybe Erica was a phenomenal doula, but sleep coaching is just not her forte. During our consultation call with her, we really got excited. She was very sweet and took her time listening to us. We thought we found the perfect sleep coach. Our baby was 6 months old at the time and was going through a sleep regression so we were barely getting any sleep. Our weekly phone calls with her felt like police interrogations. For some reason she thought I was hiding stuff from my husband like co-sleeping and breastfeeding at night - I'm guessing because of the consultation call where I surprised my husband by saying that I still breastfed our son (only at night at that stage). As part of the coaching program, she sent a sleep log via Google doc. You have to scroll down for what feels like eternity in the middle of the night to update the log. She opens the log between 9-2:30p, Mon/Tues/Th/Fri. On Wed/Sun you'll notice that she pops in during the early afternoon 1-2x to check in/support. The check-ins basically entail back and forth notes via the Google doc in different colors and fonts which gets confusing after a while. She called us her "special clients" because we had so much groundwork to do, and went as far as to say that she wouldn't give up on us (this was 2 weeks in) and cares very much about her clients....and then the very next day sent me an email indicating that she has a family emergency and is no longer be able to provide her services / offered 50% refund. We were very worried for her and I responded saying not to worry about refunds during a family emergency. Here is how she breaks down her 4-week package: $250 first consult $450 first two weeks $400 second two weeks Fast-forward 3 months after her family emergency email and she didn't bother to email us once to ask how we're doing. This is not someone who cares. Not even a little bit. To us it's clear now that we were lied to. She gave up on us and didn't want another failed client to add to her list so she cut her losses. I'm sorry, but it was a HUGE disappointment and waste of money. Our son slept well on his own without us needing Erica as soon as his sleep regression ended. Don't waste your time and money on this.

We have a child membership and we go to the wonderful baby-toddler classes they offer! Love Child has been a little haven for me that I look forward to go to a few times a week. As a stay at home mommy, going to school, Love Child is offering me the opportunity to step out of my bubble. Holly and Sarah-Grace are wonderful. They are so loving and creative, each class is a treat! We love French class on Tuesday, and art class on Thursday. There are also music classes on Monday and Wednesday with Corbitt and Alex. I joined a weekly Prenatal Circle with a group of soon-to-be first time moms. We frankly discussed the physical and emotional toll that pregnancy and motherhood takes on you, your career and your relationship with your partner. Love Child also offers classes to prepare for parenthood. My husband and I took classes on multiple topics at different facilities throughout the city, we both agreed that the Breastfeeding course we took at Love Child was the best and most useful. The week after I delivered, Neelu came to my home to help me with early breastfeeding woes (included in the membership!) Since my daughter was born, our relationship with Love Child evolved. When she was a young infant, we were regulars at Baby and Me Yoga (the cutest thing ever), New Parents Circle and Baby Play Date. Now as a toddler, our caregiver takes her to Love Child for art, movement or music classes. Even on days she is not at Love Child, my daughter is likely on a play date with another Love Child toddler. I take other prenatal yoga classes at the studio, but the fact that Stephanie is also a doula makes a huge difference in knowing what the students need, our anxieties and how to best prepare for pregnancy (oh! those pelvic floor exercises!). Completely professional, and at the same time warm and funny, she put us at ease as she prepared us for our birth plan. When I needed to find a new practitioner at 35 weeks, she helped me research, evaluate and find an OB I was comfortable with. She taught my partner and me to advocate for ourselves, so that when it was time to go to hospital, we were able to insist on our plan despite the fact that our OB was not on call and neither the doctor who was, nor the nurses, were interested in our preferences. While nurses bumped into one another and fumbled with monitors and machinery, filling the labor room with distracting chatter, Karla kept me focused. Just before interventions began to be introduced, Karla anticipated the aggressive attitude of the medical team and redoubled her efforts with me, magically Macgyver-ing a rope out of sheets so that I could pull on it, because of a detail she remembered in a previous conversation, in which I told her I imagined myself pushing while holding onto a branch from a tree in my yard. This did the trick and the baby was born 100% healthy, 100% intervention free. Postpartum, Karla spent time with us laughing about how we bucked the system and helped us with breastfeeding, baby-wearing and swaddling. There's no way we would have had such a good experience without her.
