It's a tough walk over rocks to the lighthouse. Nice scenic spot. Wasn't busy when I was there. Too much graffiti on the lighthouse. Sad. And piles Of beer cans just off the beach from obvious parties. Party on, but pick up after yourself. Fires are along on the beach on the Wisconsin side, not on the Minnesota side. It's a bit remote, probably why there's more parties here. read more

My family had fun walking along the shore and wandering through the woods. We made it a pretty good distance out to the lighthouse but decided to turn back as the waves were making the rocks slippery and there's some pretty deep gaps between some of the rocks on the path out. It would have been cool to make it to the lighthouse, but not recommended with kids and or dogs, probably somewhat questionable just adults. read more

Not exactly easy to get to as Wisconsin Point is a good three or four miles from US-53 down a slow road through lots of trees (is that a deer about to jump out?) but it is remarkably close to civilization because the spit of land across Allouez Bay runs parallel to the shoreline. I had a great walk around, exploring the Superior Entry Observation Area where I was mostly alone the whole time. Quiet. Peaceful. You'll find not just the Superior Entry Lighthouse here but also the Wisconsin Point Lighthouse. It's an interesting walk along the breakwater if you feel like you're not going to slip and twist an ankle. I opted not to walk all the way out and just zoomed in on the camera. As much as lake life in the Midwest is lovely, my soul pines to stick my toes in the sand and listen to crashing waves. As the largest freshwater sandbar in the world, Wisconsin Point is the closest I've been able to get. It's a soothing two-hour drive from the Twin Cities. You will undoubtedly find a secluded stretch of sand along with crashing waves. There are bathrooms at the first entrance and plenty of parking along the way. 2 out of 7 of my visits were unexpectedly unpleasant. One presented too many flies to relax. The other was colder than expected in August. We made the best of it by closing our eyes and pretending we couldn't see the rough brown water. It worked out and we still enjoyed ourselves. If you are flexible with your wardrobe, you really can't go wrong. Pick up a latte and yummy sandwich at Big Apple Bagels on the way. read more

In A Nutshell: -Wisconsin Point is cool to check out b/c it sits on Lake Superior. -There was no one there when I checked it out. -After parking, you walk about 100 yards out along the rocks and concrete deck to the lighthouse. -You won't see any crabs, but you do see millions of spiders. -So if you are afraid of spiders, I wouldn't walk to the lighthouse. Overall, it's still a pretty nice view especially on a calm day w/ good weather. read more

Wisconsin Point is basically a thin peninsula extending into lake Superior near Superior, WI. On one side of the road past the trees is Superior Bay and on the other side of the road beyond the trees is a beach. Every so often there is a place to pull over and park your car along the road, but the spots are only big enough for one or two cars, so the beech can be very private. Just before sunset my girlfriend and I found a spot just barely big enough for my car so we knew we would have the beach to ourselves. Unloaded the car and found an amazing spot on the beach completely secluded from others. You can build a fire on the beach so I carried over two bundles of wood and put what I learned in the boy scouts to use. I built a perfect log cabin style fire and got it lit with just one match and a piece of newspaper. I was very proud of myself and I am pretty sure my girlfriend was impressed also. The fire burning, the sun setting, music playing in the background from a portable iPOD system, all elements to a perfect evening. Well my evening definitely gets 5 stars, but the reason it was so enjoyable was because of the seclusion this beach offers as well as the ability to have a fire. We made great use out of both of these :) read more

Wisconsin Point is one of my favorite places to go, it is a sand bar that has the St. Louis Bay on one side, and Lake Superior on the other. The greatest thing is that it is off of Moccasin Mike Road, and is still a part of an Indian Reservasion. There is an old sacred Indian burial ground at the end, just before you get to the light house, which makes it very mysterious, and mythical. The light house is amazing, and you have to hop the rocks to get to it. You must be careful, the rocks can be trecherous, especially when the wind and rain picks up, causing the waves of Lake Superior to come crashing around it. It is also the home of many birds, so take care when hopping the rocks. It's easy to imagine what it must have been like for the Chippewa when it was their home. It is protected and hasn't changed much over the years. The road isn't the best in spots, but when you get towards the end, the trees are so tall and thick, it's hard to see daylight through them, an old growth pine forest. The Wisconsin point light house is right at the entryway for the Superior ship canal, and you can see the Ore docks on the other side of the St. Louis Bay. It is not such a strange sight to see a big ore boat floating on past the light house. The sand bar is long, maybe 3 miles if I had to guess, and is very interesting on both sides. The St. Louis Bay side has aviary houses among the reeds, and the Lake Superior Side has a long beautiful beach that extends for many miles. The water is a little cold but nice if you can get used to it. There is just sand, no pebbles making it a great place for swimming. Watch out for poison Ivy and lots of it. It's better to stay on the paths leading over to the beach. Overall, the area is a great nature trail, with very interesting stops along the way. The land is rugged, and hasn't changed much in the last 100 years. The air is clear and fresh from the coolness of Lake Superior and the light house is an added plus with it's rock hopping break wall. It is a great place to sit and watch the sun go down over the hills of Duluth, just make sure you hop the rocks back while it is still daylight. Have fun.............. read more

This absolutely one of my very favorite places on the entire planet. It's so great that I hesitated to even review it because I'm not sure that I want to share it. I used to live in Superior and we would go to Wisconsin Point several times a week in the summer. Now we still make a trip up there and go during all of the summer holidays. The beach is great! You can sit out there as late as you want because it doesn't close. Possibly my favorite part is that you can build a campfire and roast marshmallows over it. We often go swimming, although many people would think that Lake Superior is too cold and/or rough. It can be very secluded (as the previous reviewer said), but I've also seen it very busy out there, especially later at night when it's hot out. As with anything, common sense is required. The road out there is very narrow (although they widened it slightly from what it used to be) so drive cautiously. Of course there is no lifeguard, so don't drown. Leave everything as you found it. Pack your garbage out with you as there is no dumpster or anything out there. What else can I say? It's beautiful and peaceful. Go and have a good time! read more

Very cool place to Visit for sure, We were told about it a must to walk the beach and maybe for those that want to challenge to get to the Light House. Granted this is not place like average beaches, no restrooms, changing rooms and parking is on side road or small turn outs. But we still wanted to visit, My husband and I took our Daughter and 4 other girls for the day to explore the area, and Yes all but 2 did the challenge to climb and jump our way to the Light House. It was not a easy tasked but 5 of us did it without any sprain ankles, cuts or bruises, huge boulders all shapes and sizes, some were easy to walk on others you tread with side of caution because of the moss. But it is worth the adventure! took us lil over 30 minutes to reach the Light House and little less time to return for we remembered which rocks to step on. The Beach on the other hand let's just say not fan of the little nasty biting flies!! they were absolutely horrible and seem to only attack us more and more we sprayed bug spray that said kept biting flies away lol Yes there was some trash and debris around but what place doesn't have that, we just simply picked up trash we saw and put it in plastic bag and took it away with us when we left the Beach. All 5 the girls went in and yes swam, I wasn't as brave only went up to my knees and wow was that some cold water but was worth it since the nasty lil flies didn't bother me while I was in the water. We were told we could even have a fire on the beach, but since it had rained night before and that morning everything was so damp so we didn't even try. I am sure will visit again if I get the chance. read more

Strongly recommend making the drive here. It is beautiful and isolated. The rocks are an obstacle begat take about 10 minutes. Wear tennis shoes and don't go when it is rainy. It is manageable for anyone as long as you take your time. You can't go into the lighthouse but the view of Lake Superior is breathtaking. read more

This is one of the worst beaches I've been to in the country. My family was very disappointed. There are no bathrooms, no changing rooms, and very murky water (especially by the standards of Lake Superior). Moreover, there is a terrible amount of debris on the beach that makes any walk down the beach very unpleasant. The debris on the beach is also potentially dangerous with all sorts of litter, jagged sticks that could easily stab bare feet, and logs on the beach and in the water that are a major potential hazard to swimmers. The lighthouse is interesting, but the jetty to the lighthouse is dangerous with large and slippery gaps in the rocks. Nearby Park Point in Duluth, MN is a much better and safer beach as an alternative choice. read more
