This is the other side of the sandbar, Minnesota Point. It tends to be more crowded than Wisconsin.

As much as lake life in the Midwest is lovely, my soul pines to stick my toes in the sand and listen to crashing waves. As the largest freshwater sandbar in the world, Wisconsin Point is the closest I've been able to get. It's a soothing two-hour drive from the Twin Cities. You will undoubtedly find a secluded stretch of sand along with crashing waves. There are bathrooms at the first entrance and plenty of parking along the way. 2 out of 7 of my visits were unexpectedly unpleasant. One presented too many flies to relax. The other was colder than expected in August. We made the best of it by closing our eyes and pretending we couldn't see the rough brown water. It worked out and we still enjoyed ourselves. If you are flexible with your wardrobe, you really can't go wrong. Pick up a latte and yummy sandwich at Big Apple Bagels on the way.

In A Nutshell: -Wisconsin Point is cool to check out b/c it sits on Lake Superior. -There was no one there when I checked it out. -After parking, you walk about 100 yards out along the rocks and concrete deck to the lighthouse. -You won't see any crabs, but you do see millions of spiders. -So if you are afraid of spiders, I wouldn't walk to the lighthouse. Overall, it's still a pretty nice view especially on a calm day w/ good weather.

Wisconsin Point is basically a thin peninsula extending into lake Superior near Superior, WI. On one side of the road past the trees is Superior Bay and on the other side of the road beyond the trees is a beach. Every so often there is a place to pull over and park your car along the road, but the spots are only big enough for one or two cars, so the beech can be very private. Just before sunset my girlfriend and I found a spot just barely big enough for my car so we knew we would have the beach to ourselves. Unloaded the car and found an amazing spot on the beach completely secluded from others. You can build a fire on the beach so I carried over two bundles of wood and put what I learned in the boy scouts to use. I built a perfect log cabin style fire and got it lit with just one match and a piece of newspaper. I was very proud of myself and I am pretty sure my girlfriend was impressed also. The fire burning, the sun setting, music playing in the background from a portable iPOD system, all elements to a perfect evening. Well my evening definitely gets 5 stars, but the reason it was so enjoyable was because of the seclusion this beach offers as well as the ability to have a fire. We made great use out of both of these :)

This was our first time driving into Duluth through Superior Wisconsin so we had to make a stop at Pattison State Park. Our favorite view of the Big Falls was from the parking area across the street from the park entrance ( you still need a park permit to park there). Short hike to the viewing area and they also have a selfie station to get a great picture in front of the falls. The colors were beautiful as we came in the fall time but I would love to come back in the spring to see the falls raging!

The bathrooms were clean for the most part but the showers were kind of gross- however some of that was due to other campers. They are also in the process of building a new shower/bathroom facility. The most standout part of our stay however was Ranger Chris. He was incredibly nice and helpful, especially towards my 5 year old who always has about a million questions and observations. Ranger Chris hooked him up (pun intended) with a series of much treasured "fish cards" and a neat activity book that we had fun completing as a family so my boy could earn a Wisconsin patch. Thanks for making our (and especially his) stay wonderful, Ranger Chris!!

My experience level is kayaking a few times a year on lakes primarily, though I have done ocean harbors and coves also. Our group included some with more and less experience than that. The guides ask for your input ahead of time on what experience you are looking for, and dietary restrictions, which is great. Based on the weather forecast, our guide recommended we consider tandem kayaks. We normally prefer single kayaks but took the advice and were so glad we did as it absolutely helped in powering through the wind and waves of Lake Superior (and the presence of the rudder meant a relatively low amount of coordination required between the two paddlers). The Lost Creek team also quickly acted to put together a plan B when our initial trip to Sand Island was nixed due to a small craft advisory. We ended up going to Basswood island instead. I appreciated the water exit training we did before the trip. The food provided throughout was excellent. Our sights included a seastack, an arch, and a shipwreck. Most of all, the guides ensured we had a fun, safe adventure!

I've kayaked AK, HI and the San Juans (WA) and this was the best! It's a very short bus ride to Meyers Beach so you don't waste a lot of time getting on the water. As a side note, I later learned from another type of boat tour on Madeline Island that there are a few pretenders in the kayak tour business but Lost Creek is considered by locals to be one of the best!!

He was patient, informative, and took the time to answer all my questions, which gave me a lot of confidence before we even got there. When we arrived, the three ladies at the sign-in shack were just as friendly and helpful. What stood out most to me was how focused they were on making sure everyone understood the process--not just for fun, but also from a safety standpoint. I really appreciated the way the staff in kayaks guided us, giving us clear heads-ups and reminders throughout the trip. That kind of attention helped a ton. The experience itself was absolutely exhilarating--riding through the rapids with friends was so wonderful. Our guides, Margo and Thea, were incredible. They were both friendly and supportive the whole time. At one point, during the last rapid, my friend lost his balance and fell into me, and almost knocking me out of the raft. Thankfully, Margo and my wife reacted quickly and grabbed me before I went overboard. Special thanks to Margo for that! Honestly, the whole trip was so much fun I was ready to go again immediately, but we had to check in our hotel and grab dinner. I just wanted to say thank you to the entire team, especially Margo and Thea, for making our first rafting adventure such a great one. We'll definitely be back soon.

Only four stars for two reasons. If you've never been rafting before, you will love this! If you have done some rafting in other states, this river will feel tame. Swiftwater adds in some time at a nice little beach where you can ride over a small rapid and hike up and the guides will show you berries! This makes up for the less exciting rapids. Also, and I'm sure this rarely happens, but the camera malfunctioned the day we were there and we didnt get pictures of our group. Bummer.
