Had a fabulous group overnight adventure with Maddy and Charlie who were wonderful. They were definitely safety and comfort-oriented and talked about our fears etc. beforehand. Very knowledgeable, encouraging, and flexible also. The food was excellent even considering multiple dietary restrictions among us. All the gear was in good shape and any issues were addressed immediately. Facilities were good for changing, parking, orientation etc. Would absolutely recommend!

My husband and I took the safety course before kayaking to our campsite on Sand Island. Hayden was our instructor and did a really great job of explaining how to use our equipment and judge how weather conditions will impact the water. He gave us many different resources to stay updated on weather/water conditions and gave us suggestions for our kayaking route out to the island and back the following day. Before heading back to the mainland we checked the water conditions and saw the wind speed would be picking up in the afternoon. We had originally scheduled our pick up for 2PM but because of the forecast we decided to head back early for safety reasons. Ellie was able to squeeze in a ride to pick us up earlier than expected! This is a great place to check out and I would love to come back.

This was a fabulous half-day kayak trip! Michael was a wonderful instructor, and we had a great time for a really great price! Beautiful trip! My one complaint is they they expected us to carry a triple kayak (which was incredibly heavy) down a large flight of stairs and then walk down the beach 100 yards. The expectation should be that the company has everything ready to go and this type of labor shouldn't be something people paying for this experience should have to do. Besides that it was wonderful!

I don't normally leave reviews, but this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Made a reservation online. On their website it says if your 12 years old and 100lbs you are able to do the half day trip. We own multiple kayaks and my son has kayaked many rivers and lakes in Minnesota. We get phone call the next day and they recommend a different trip. My wife explains that she will consider it but that she will call them back if she decides to cancel the outing. I was standing next to my wife when they called. She specifically said do not cancel our reservation. The next day we receive an email telling us our reservation had been cancelled. I call numerous times over 2 days to find out why they cancelled it and no one answers. Five minutes after I call, I used a different phone number and they immediately pick up (I had even left a message) They were avoiding my calls. All other kayaking companies are now full. I can see why they were the only ones available. BUYER BEWARE. They might randomly cancel your reservation and not answer the phone, only to leave you on the hook for a $400 hotel stay you no longer need.

We had a great trip and we're lucky with the weather that day. The wind and waves picked up at the end of our tour and the guides led us safely and swiftly back in. The 2.5 hr trip was plenty with a group and long enough to see the caves. If you want to hang out after and walk the trails or swim at the beach then you'll want to drive separately after meeting up at their office site. Our guides Mike and River were great. I've seen bad reviews regarding carrying your own kayak. I'm sure they greatly appreciate the help carrying the kayaks down to the beach but it's definitely not required. Many stayed back and others like my 22 yr old athlete children were more than happy and were physically able to help.

My gf and I had a great time kayaking with LCA. We did a half day Apostle Island Sea Cave Tour and we loved it. Our tour was in the evening and the setting sun brought out the colors of the sea caves. Definitely recommend the later tour to anyone that is into pictures and a romantic evening. The kayaks, paddles, sea skirts, and life vest were in good condition. We had two tour guides and they were knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a dry bag to put your valuables in. You can bring your cellphone at your own risk! Might be worth the instagram post. I would recommend LCA to anyone interested in kayaking around the sea caves.

Ron and Leah are the Innkeeper's and they are super friendly, sweet and knowledgeable about the area. We stayed in the King Romantic Suite. The room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable! The large bathroom also had a two person jetted tub that we enjoyed. In addition, they had wine waiting for us in our room at no additional cost, so nice! The breakfast was delicious! Leah prepared peach stuffed crepes with a blueberry cream topping. The bacon...ohhh the bacon was soooo good! They prepare organic food and you can tell the difference! We also had yogurt, granola, fruit toppings, orange juice and coffee. You can tell they truly care and want their quests to have an enjoyable, relaxing time. Will stay again and will even get my parents a stay for their anniversary!

Less than a block from the "Main Street", and 2 blocks to the Madeline Island ferry line. We awoke to beautiful sunrises in our backyard of Lake Superior. Maybe 20 feet from the water, with nothing in our way but the lovely patio table provided by the condo. We were traveling with my parents, so we opted for the 2 bedroom, 2 bath. The condo was spacious enough where we weren't crowded on top of each other, and had plenty of space. Toiletries are provided, even though the pamphlet said they were not, as was a hairdryer. Kitchen was huge, living room nice, although the tv was on the one and only switched outlet for the living room (issue for parents, not us - we weren't watching it). We thought the beds were hard. We compared it to sleeping on a box spring. Not great, but doable. And the microwave was from 1983, older than the cousin we came to see get married. But it worked! We checked in on Friday early afternoon, and their wireless worked. An hour later it stopped working, and we had a really hard time with the AT&T E network (sloooooooooooooow). Every time I called to the office, all we got was their answering machine. Sure, I could have left a message, but I didn't. My fault I guess, as I figured I'd eventually reach someone. I was wrong, so we never had wifi. Note: This property is managed by The Winfield Inn. All the other relatives who were staying in hotels were jealous of our place. Yeah, it's really nice. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

I picked up a few poops outside, all the ones that I saw/ knew about in addition to leaving a clean cabin, a tip, and busing my trash and recycling. Well, apparently I left some dog poops too. I received a phone call a half hour after I left stating I was not welcome to return by a very emphatic man. He said there were poops "all over", which given that I picked up two I find hard to believe, as the dog is 11 pounds and we had a two night stay. Had I been charged to my credit card for the pick up, perhaps even told I couldn't bring a dog again I would have understood. A call saying that I was not welcome to return? Way over the top in my opinion. Way over. Yes, I screwed up but this was a really harsh way to treat an otherwise good customer. The man also stated inaccurately that hardly anyone on the shore accepts dogs. Not true, over half of cascade vacation rentals homes do. Furthermore, if THIS is how they treat a guest who makes a mistake, they should not allow dogs and they should take a long hard look At their attitude. What happens here if you break a coffee pot? Wow. Update: In a response to me on this matter, I was accused of "having my dog off leash in violation of policy". I have NEVER had my dog off leash outside of his own yard, and who would in the open in Northern MN? Insane that the response to this was this accusation. Dog or not, please avoid! It won't be pretty if anything goes amiss during your stay, obviously.

As noted by others, this is a launch point for kayaks to launch for views of the sea caves and cliffs. We were at this location twice in late May, 2023, and national park Rangers were there on both days (Wednesday, Friday) ensuring that kayakers were prepared for the rough and cold waters, and to provide guidance to hikers. There are clean vault toilets at the location. Regarding the Lakeshore Hike, we did about 2.2 miles of the hike, returning on the same trail to make it about 4.4 miles roundtrip. The trail continues to a campground site (I believe NPS reservations are required) but we didn't go that far. The first 1.8 miles are largely inland, without views of Lake Superior. Of this segment, the first 0.7 miles are almost completely on a double plank boardwalk that goes over swampy land in parts. It requires some stepping up and down on planks, following terrain changes. After you cross a service road at 0.7 miles, the trail alternates between plank boards and regular trails. As you approach the crevasse at 1.8 miles, there are quite a few ascents and descents wherein you go down to a stream-bed and then back up. Some of these are steep but have logs to help with footing. The stream crossings all had sturdy boards or bridges to cross. At 1.8 miles, you reach the crevasse area with views of Lake Superior. Take a look on both sides to see sea caves and the deep crevasse. There are benches here too so it made a great lunch spot. Be careful not to get too close to the edges. It's a long way down! Beyond the crevasse, walk another 0.4 miles to the "basin". This stretch is relatively easy (flat) walking with spectacular views. My husband, who has been hiking in the Himalayas recently, found the entire trail to be easy. For me, I'd characterize it as moderately challenging. On the positive side, there is very little elevation change, so I wasn't huffing and puffing. However, I have balance issues, so I didn't particularly like the footing for the ascents/descents to the stream beds nor all of the roots on the trail. Some of the steps up and down, even on the boardwalk, were also a bit too high for my short legs! Having walked with hiking poles and an occasional hand from my husband helped. Finally, remember bug spray. The mosquitoes are active. 4-star rating overall instead of 5 due to distance required to walk to get views of the sea caves and mosquitoes. 5 stars for the Park Service.

The views from the water are beautiful! I highly recommend the water instead of the walking trail. There are multiple vendors you can rent kayaks and wet suits from. You can even take a guided tour. We personally, have our own kayaks and decided to do our own trip. The DNR do sit at the beach and give you the whole spiel on safety and risks. It is recommended to use sea kayaks due to the rough waters of Lake Superior. We have used normal lake kayaks and used good judgement on the water/ weather conditions. Both times were just fine on the normal kayaks. Just be careful. The waters are freezing all year-round and if you do go overboard near the caves there's no good spot to pull off. Check out my pics of the stunning caves!
