Andy guiding us down the river

Amazing experience and beautiful sights to see! We had one of the newest guides, Andy. He was awesome to raft with and he really seemed to be getting the hang of the job! You can tell he loves what he does already. All the staff was incredible and attentive! I can't wait to take more trips down the river with them.

Our experience with Cliff and Swiftwater Adventures was truly top notch. We ran the Upper St. Louis river on September 22, 2014 on what turned out to be a cool, overcast day with lower flows but that did not change the excitement level for us, two sea kayakers just getting our feet wet in the whitewater world. Cliff was very patient with us and really made us feel safe at every challenge, explaining the line, what to do if things went pear shaped and just generally being supportive in a way that was deeply appreciated by both Cali and myself. Having limited Class II+ experience I was hesitant to commit to the III+ Electric Slide rapid at first, but the assurances Cliff offered really stoked my confidence. We ended up going over it twice and I got a chance to practice my combat roll on the second go round... now we can't wait to get back in a river! Charging the rapids would have been enough, so the addition of insightful discussion on everything from technique to geology, eco-tourisim to the biology of the river was just icing on the cake. Cliff is a really remarkable guy with expansive knowledge of the sport and the world it exists in. And of course no review would be complete without a Cost/Benefit analysis, even if it means shooting myself in the foot for our return trip. The current price of $45.00 a person, all inclusive, is a ridiculous bargain... Out here in California we're hard pressed to find boat rentals for that amount, much less a guided tour by a consummate professional. Once we have more hours on the river logged we hope to return for Cliff's creek boat clinic. Bottom line? Better grab this deal while you can! Swiftwater Adventures embodies everything kick ass about Minnesota to be sure!

We had an amazing time! The guides were incredibly kind and knowledgeable. We always felt safe and prepared for the rapids we were about to approach. The adventure swim was a fun midway break. The scenery is beautiful! We had such a blast and can't wait to go again. The age range for our group was 10-60, so it's definitely something the whole family can do. We also loved the professional pictures available at the end. Great memories! Thank you!

What a memorable experience! Our first time whitewater rafting and right here in MN. Cliff, Luke and Brian were all great. We learned all the basics of rafting/safety and they tested us before we took off. Loved every minute of it. Half way through the trip we stopped for a short hike to an overlook, and what I appreciated the most was the little stops to learn about the local plants. Our entire family had so much fun. It made our next day suck in comparison. :-p

Getting geared up to go white water rafting.

We looked around and my wife found Positive Energy and we decided to book a weekend in Duluth so we could go dog sledding. We got all of our warm gear ready and headed out. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner and one of the dogs. Next we got a lesson on sleds and dog teams. Walking into the dog area we got to meet all of the dogs. Then we got to harness them and get them set on the rope of each sled. We learned a lot about dogs and the history of sledding the whole time were were there from the staff. They make sure you really understand everything and take the time to answer every question you have. We did the 3 hour tour and it was amazing!!! We got on the sleds as passengers and after about 25 min mine stopped and I got to drive. Wow was it fun, driving a dog sled on my own across a frozen lake. It was a lot more work than I expected but worth every second. After we were done sledding we helped get the dogs off of the sleds, they got treats and we helped get them back to each dogs house. I recommend Positive Energy to anyone wanting to try dogsledding. The staff and the dogs are amazing!

After reaching out to multiple outfitters in the region, I choose Jack's and I'm glad I did. I didn't want to transport my 17 foot Grumman aluminum to upper Wisconsin and take it through the rapids. We were also going to need to rent a second boat anyways and needed a shuttle. I started looking into local outfitters. They were quick to respond to my inquiries and answer my questions. They also were willing to not only rent us a canoe and a kayak and provide shuttle service, but they answered my questions about what I'd need to do for a multiple night trip down the river. We camped at their site for the first night and put in right there so we could paddle down the river, across Trego Lake, portage the dam, then continue down the Namekagon and St. Croix Rivers over the next couple of days. The equipment they rented us was in good condition. We had no issues with the paddles, PFDs, or boats. The shuttle van was clean and well maintained. When we looked at the camps all of them where in nice, clean conditions. The port-a-poties were clean. They have a store on site to purchase any items you may need to go down the river. The staff was friendly and nice. It wasn't busy when we arrived and was able to chat with some of them. It's a family own and operated business. We had scheduled a 3pm ride back to our vehicles on our last day but due to our underestimating how fast our trip was, we got there around noon. I called Jack's and inquired if there was any way they could pick us up early. Knowing they're busy I highly doubted it. Their response was they didn't have any drivers available right then, but if one becomes available early they would send them our way. We really didn't expect anyone to get there until 3pm. However, around 2pm the shuttle arrived. If we had to wait until the scheduled pick up time that would be understandable, but because they had the availability and could come early, that was pretty awesome in my book. If you're looking for an outfitter to go down the river either via canoe, kayak, or tube... I can't recommend enough Jack's.
