I'm leaving this review to help anyone who's unsure where to go for a tubal ligation (tying of…read moretubes). Please avoid this place. I scheduled my procedure back in February 2025 and even paid my $50 copay the same day I completed all pre-surgical testing. The facility cancelled and rescheduled my surgery six different times -- never once was it my request. After the sixth cancellation, I told them I no longer felt comfortable moving forward. When I asked for my $50 refund, that's when the real headache started. I dealt with Ann from billing (the department supervisor), who repeatedly claimed my refund was being sent -- but nothing ever arrived. I eventually had to contact the Patient Care Advocate supervisor, Diane, who has been amazing and is still trying to help me get my full refund. Months later, I finally received a check -- but only for $32.20, not the full $50. They said the rest was applied to my deductible, which makes no sense since the surgery never happened. That's not how copays work, and it feels dishonest. It's now the end of the year, and I'm still fighting for what's mine. This whole experience has been unprofessional, disorganized, and frustrating from start to finish. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

I have been quite hesitant to write a review about this craphole of a psych hospital but it does…read moreneed to be addressed if it already hasn't been. 8 years ago I had a severe relapse of my neuropsychiatric condition that began back in 2009. 8 years ago I was transferred to this hospital from Stony Brook University hospital and man was I in for a rude awakening! Don't let the outside of the place fool you, disguised as a homely location with flowers and all. The care is very subpar and almost nonexistent. I've never been treated with such disrespect. The nurses were rude and almost had a holier-than-thou attitude about the patients here, it's as almost if they didn't really care at all and was just there for the paycheck. I could not even talk to the medication nurse as she was unbelievably snappy and curt. Even the doctors were unprofessional. They don't fully listen to your immediate concerns, not using careful deductive logic & input from the patient and not only that but over-prescribe you meds that you probably don't even need. (I know I didn't, since then I have successfully tapered off most of those medications, SUCK ON THAT!) I also could not sleep at all because of the other patients making noise and being a constant threat to my safety and sanity. We were often mixed in as general population inmates in a prison and you never know whether you've made a friend or an enemy. Sharing rooms with others was pure hell. The suicide watches were disturbing as someone who is always watching a patient while you're trying to sleep. Who the hell wants someone there watching while you sleep!? Uncomfortable. The front desk would not take your requests seriously, at one point I complained that the heating was set way too hot and they said that the plumbers were working on it. Days later, and we're still in 80 degree heat. Unpleasant. In short, this was no picnic, it was hell. I think I might have actually gotten worse while there, so I opted to leave after 2 or 3 weeks. (thanks to my family and my brother who angrily said to the staff that did not belong there!) I instead preferred to recover at home which provided me the quiet and safety I needed for my unique position as I was very sensitive and am a shy quiet individual. I'm glad to report I am doing much better 8 years later living my best life and can speak freely when I say that this place ABSOLUTELY SUCKS! IT DID NOTHING FOR ME - If you ever have a crisis, DO NOT GO HERE. PERIOD. (I only gave a 2-star review as it wasn't all completely bad. The food was delicious and tasty, almost gourmet. I even enjoyed the turkey sandwiches they brought out after late-night, it was the only thing that calmed me in there. There was also one nurse I remember who was the ONLY one kind enough to treat us with some bit of dignity and respect)

This review is not about the hospital itself, it is about Customer Service for Northshore LIJ. The…read morehospital staff was very friendly and accommodating. The issue is that a person cannot contact Northshore's billing department. You have to speak to a Customer Service Representative who has no idea about the billing process. My daughter was in the hospital on 8/18/15 at the doctor's request. A few weeks ago, we get a letter from Northshore that Rachel owes over $1000.00. The letter stated that they made many attempts to call and write us. That letter was the "first" notice we received for that particular hospital visit. We called our insurance company and we were told that it was not medically necessary for my daughter to go to the ER and that she could have gone to an urgent care center. If she is told by the doctor to go to ER, that is what she is going to do. I Checked the EOB on the website, It appears the staff doing the billing for the hospital did not code the visit correctly. Furthermore, while checking on the billing for the lab, I noticed that there was unbundling. Certain things are supposed to be billed as one. We sent a letter to the hospital and copied the insurance company. We received notice from the insurance company that they received the appeal. Today, a representative from Northshore calls for my daughter. We thought it was in regard to the letter sent to Northshore. We called them back and discovered the call was from their Collections Department. As far as I know, when a charge is being appealed, the collection process is supposed to be put on a freeze. We spoke to a Customer Service or Collections representative at Northshore, and was advised the billing cycle does not stop. In addition, we were told that they don't have record of the letter on file. The letter was faxed and mailed, so they definitely received it. On a final note for this review, I must say that I am curious as to why we have to speak with Customer Service representatives and cannot speak with someone in the billing department of Northshore LIJ now known as Northwell Health.
