The nurses are AMAZING. I had a tough birth and needed interventions almost every step of the way. However i was always provided a choice, given the option to wait and see. I almost needed a C-section but thanks to the efforts of the labor and delivery team we were able to avoid it! The nurses here truly advocate for their patients and really do care for you. Many times people can feel like just another name on a list but the nurses in L&D truly care about YOU. And shout out to RN Matilda! You held me through the scariest moment of my life and saw me through to the other side. I will never forget you !!

My wife got…read moreto the hospital into the emergency room on her own accord at around 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. She was finally discharged at around 5:30 the following morning with absolutely zero findings, still in pain. They actually asked her to return if she still had pain, but they were discharging her with pain. She was called after almost an hour back to the emergency ward out of the waiting room and placed on a stretcher in the corridor by the nurses station for about 10 hours. Apparently no rooms available, even though there were two empty ones. They didn't check on her or ask her if she needed anything. It took hours between CT scan and ultrasound to get any kind of results. We will never even consider this location for any emergencies in the future and you should not as well. I think there was a major failure in the nursing staff because it's their responsibility to make sure that patients are comfortable and informed. Why my wife was standing, waiting to get her discharge papers with IV still in her arm absolutely unacceptable.

He said he had to immediately go to the hospital to get it drained and he recommended I go to St. Francis. My father being stubborn refused any hospital visit at first but finally we got him to go. When we drove into the parking lot I thought I would walk my father to the ER but the walk was too much. A staff exiting noticed us and helped us into the nearest entrance which was not the ER. He got us a wheelchair and even wheeled us to the ER. That was very nice of him considering he was on his way out. At the ER the triage nurse took a look at the cardiologist's papers and listened to the story while examining my father. They were patient with him even though he was getting cantankerous. The whole process took 20 to 30 minutes and we were let into the ER. My father was placed in a bed in the hallway. There were lots of beds in the hallway. They looked very busy. A doctor came and examined my father and ordered a chest X-ray and blood tests. The nurse expertly inserted a needle in, drew blood and left a space for the IV to go in the future. My father was not happy about the needle but they were reassuring to him. They gave me a chair and we waited. An X-ray machine came to us and they did a chest x-ray right at the bedside. The doctor came and said that the water was not in his lungs but around. She prescribed some strong intravenous diuretic. When he had to go to the bathroom, he refused to use the urinal so they used this contraption I've never seen before that wheels him to the bathroom and allows him to sit on the toilet. He had to go every 2 hours and was pretty demanding. But they stopped what they were doing to help me get him to the bathroom. They gave me a chair to sit next to him. They asked if I wanted anything. He was admitted but there was no room so we waited. A cardiologist came and patiently explained what was wrong (he has afib) and his options. He's stubborn so a pacemaker was out so the doctor prescribed him a beta blocker. I ask for food for him the first night but it never came which was one of the few complaints I had. I asked several times but I never got any menu for him till the afternoon of the next day. I managed to get him dinner, and breakfast. The food is probably the best hospital food I've seen. It is however tasteless (no salt because of people with high blood pressure. Finally, on Sunday we were discharged and we managed to get lunch before we left. They took care of everything and the process was smooth. Overall it was a good hospital with good people trying to give the patients the best care.

I had 3 short term visits here that came out well. My last visit was a disaster…read more 1. Triage I showed up at St. Joseph's Hospital on the evening of the 15th of September with a racing heart and shortness of breath. After over 90 minutes, the entire waiting room had been cared for except for me, including an elderly lady who was shaking from marijuana use. I'm not sure what your policies are for who gets priority, but maybe trouble breathing and chest pressure should be up on the priority list. 2. Communication I was asked many questions, which is a good thing, but it seems like most of my answers were ignored or not passed down to the people who needed to know those answers. a. I was asked about my religious beliefs, and I clearly said "none", yet a member of the clergy was sent to my bedside offering spiritual comfort. That may be welcoming to those who find comfort in that, but to an atheist like me, it's an awkward annoyance. b. I was asked if I was diabetic. My answer was borderline and under control. I was then treated like a full-blown diabetic with excessive finger pricks and attempts to administer insulin. I was given high carbs to eat and my metformin medication was withheld. Needless to say, my sugar level spiked dangerously high and that put me in danger of being insulin dependent; the exact thing I was trying desperately to avoid for over a decade. c. I hate being lied to and led along. We only need you to stay one more night. We only need you to stay 1 more hour. We only need one more test result. All lies. 3. Procedures a. I was given a chest x-ray and hours later the doctor wanted to do another. I understand a comparison can be beneficial, but there comes a point where the risks outweigh the benefits. After explaining that I had over 7 x-rays in the past month, I was treated like I was the one being unreasonable to refuse any more. Frequent exams in a short period may result in a higher cumulative radiation dose, which could potentially increase the risk of cancer or other radiation-related health issues. b. Losing track of medication given. After my latest blood work, my potassium level was at 3.2, which is low. I was given 2 large potassium pills. Less than an hour later, the nurse came to give me 2 more. When I explained that I just took two pills, the answers was Yeah, but your levels are low. Yes, they WERE low, but after I took the pills, the levels were unknown and more likely to be OK. Trying to re-medicate based on old data could be dangerous or even life-threatening, since too much potassium is not healthy. c. My blood pressure was taken with a faulty cup. After an unusual very low blood pressure reading, I was given medication to RAISE my blood pressure. Only after my objections, did they bother to try a different cuff, which proved my blood pressure was normal. I shouldn't have to keep track of everything being done to me from a hospital bed. I feel like I had to question everything being done to me, since it felt like everything was just done "robotically" without any critical thinking or questions. 4. Accommodations I know a hospital is not a vacation resort, but basic human dignity and hygiene shouldn't be too much to ask for. a. I was at the hospital for 4 days. In those 4 days, I was in the same underwear, the same hospital gown and no access to a shower or any kind of hygiene material except the soap in the bathroom for hand washing. My gown was soaked with saliva, blood, urine and dirt. b. Sleeping was next to impossible. The patient next to me was coughing and throwing up very loudly and I was woken up for vital signs throughout the night. There needs to be a better way to accommodate patients. Patients need proper sleep, hygiene, reasonable treatment that doesn't cause more harm and food that meets dietary requirements.

Very sad and very disappointed that this what this hospital has become.

Front Desk Staff The 3rd floor front desk staff was friendly, and efficient during the check in process. She then went back to check and escorted me to where my boyfriend was. This was not her job and was much appreciated. Surgical Team Everyone was so helpful and kind and greeted me with a smile including the surgical nurse, and other staff. Dr. Jacobs was outstanding! Whatever happened deserves its own documentary because this place is now giving portal to purgatory. My husband and I came in on a Wednesday because of a foot injury. All he needed was an X ray and someone to look at it. We spent FIVE HOURS there, and the only medical treatment he received was having his vitals taken. They brought us to the back to wait for a doctor and then seemingly deleted us from the system. Three different nurses came over at different times, asked for his name, called him by the wrong name, and then asked, "Why are you still here? We haven't seen you?" FUN FACT... I'm wondering the same thing. WHY ARE WE STILL HERE?! After about three hours of this fever dream, they moved us to the "FastTrack" area, which I can only assume was named as a joke. We then sat there for another TWO HOURS while everyone collectively forgot we existed. Again. Meanwhile, two nurses were openly talking about how badly they wanted to go home. At that point we looked at each other and said, "You know what? We don't want to be here either, girl," and walked out. Now here's where it somehow gets even better. TWO HOURS AFTER WE LEFT, they called us to ask if we were still there. I'm sorry... what? At that point I wasn't sure whether to laugh or congratulate everyone involved on creating the most immersive escape room experience in New York. Honestly, you're probably better off going to CityMD, MedRite, or asking the guy at your local bodega for a second opinion. At least someone will acknowledge your existence. I'm genuinely convinced this place is run by NYU's psychology department as a social experiment to see how much absurdity people will tolerate before they completely lose it. I wish I were kidding.

I was so grateful when they would explain a medicine to me or explain what the next steps were. An ER is a scary place for some people so I truly appreciated how patient everyone was. The referrals and medication given to me helped right away. Since the NP took the time to listen to my symptoms carefully he prescribed me something I hadn't tried yet which helped immensely.
