2 months ago I was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's with a knee injury. I was left in the emergency room for 15 HOURS, 10 of which were in the HALLWAY! I was given 4 different diagnoses that day after X-rays: - It's a broken bone. - No broken bones, just arthritis. - A patella tear, being sent home for outpatient surgery. - A full patella rupture, surgery needed ASAP. Do not recommend this hospital by any means. Drove my wife to hospital this morning for extreme stomach pains and passing out. Got her signed in for triage. Another lady walked in over hear her say stomach pains also.. once I see her get seen before my wife I said something... Long story short the ride miserable nurse that just got in for her shift at 7am said she was complaining of face drooping which means stroke patient. This lady had zero drooping in the face at all. Yeah I may not be a nurse but am an EMT and deal with patients on a daily basis and this definitely was not a stroke patient. I've never seen someone having a stroke and walk themselves into a hospital. Only plus thing about this hospital was the security guard on shift at the time. Once being there for a half hour and zero help was able to get her in and seen at Plainview Hospital the second she walked in. My wife has been dealing with this for years and seeing her in pain and throwing up non stop sucks to see. What also sucks is seeing no compassion from the triage nurse at that time. I fell down a flight of stairs and knew i broke something. I went there on Monday and just got released today. I went in the Emergency Room. There are some homeless sleeping there but they don't bother anyone. I was immediately taken to get a CT scan. The nursed that helped me were great. SOrry i don't recall their names i was in terible pain. Turns out i fractured my back in 3 places and had brain bleeding. I don't have any family or friends around so i got admitted. They gave me meds to help me sleep except they have to wake you up every 2 hours which sucked. THE ICU was freezing cold but the PA on duty got me extra blankets. Its impossible to really sleep there cause its cold, LOUD AF and very bright. Not conducive to sleeping. I was transferred then to another dept till i got released and that room was WAY better more private Etc. Special shoult out to Dr. Joseph, Dr. Finke, Fatima, Chris the PA, Ty the transport gentleman with the Nicole tattoo. And a few others that were super nice to me. Unlike my first nurse (not naming them) who was rather brusk and unfriendly and no blankets. im still in a lot of pain but at least im home. Also Brian my nurse was great read more

Welcome to the CHS Reject hospital. They basically through some paint and stucco on a dumpy old hospital to make it look good. All the negative reviews are true- aside from a handful of good doctors and nurses- the place is horrible. First off, its absolutely filthy. Feces on bathroom walls, dirt everywhere..... nurses and doctor follow absolutely zero infectious disease control precautions (nit washing hand's and gowning up in/out of c diff patient rooms) . Many of them have simply horrible border line abusive attitudes God forbid your doctor orders imaging (xrays) on a busy day- they dont want to pay to have then outsourced and read off site like most hospitals do when it gets swamped. This potentially delays serious diagnosis..... so it could take 8,16,24 hours for a simple dray to be read. A joke. This is basically in between an urgent care center and a real hospital. Plainview Hospital is like three miles away or theres a veterinarian down the bloxk. read more

I was just released after a very difficult session of angioedema - anaphylaxis attack due to an unknown condition which the team at St Joe's was able not only to identify, but control and resolve. And now I have a clearer road ahead to staying alive and healthy. Their ability to define and help me understand all of their processes and decisions was most helpful in settling my mind and helping me recover. I can't say enough about the nursing staff, technicians, and doctors who helped me through probably the most difficult medical week I've ever experienced. I was not feeling well and kept coughing and having a hard time breathing. I went to the emergency room on Memorial Day. Dr, Michael Pouloss and nurse Margaret took very good care of me. Gave me a lot of tests and thankfully I received a steroid iv and was able to feel better. Carlos at the nurse's station was very compassionate patient and helpful to everyone who called and asked a lot of questions. The nurses were all kind and it was very busy at the time. read more

My father was admitted for excessive bleeding while urinating, accompanied by severe pain, by 7:00 PM on Oct 20th. Despite his critical condition, nurses made multiple failed attempts to insert a catheter, leaving him in tremendous discomfort for hours. It wasn't until 2:00 AM that a doctor arrived. While he successfully placed the catheter, it was done without anesthesia, making it an excruciating ordeal for my father. The doctor explained that adding anesthesia would cause further delays. I am grateful at least doctor was able to handle his critical condition. Following this initial procedure, the doctor instructed nurses to keep the catheter in place through irrigation. However, the assigned nurse and PA were evidently untrained in proper catheter irrigation and mistakenly used the wrong method. As a result, the balloon burst inside his bladder, causing the catheter to dislodge. To my shock, the PA dismissed this mistake, insisting there was "no problem." When the doctor was called back to reinsert the catheter, he was visibly frustrated, yet neither the nurse nor PA took accountability or offered an apology. I insisted that a more experienced nurse be assigned to avoid further suffering for my father. Although he was eventually discharged with a catheter and advised to see an outside doctor for cleaning in ten days, we had to rush him back to the hospital nine days later due to renewed bleeding. Despite his urgent condition, no doctor attended to him until 5:00 PM on Nov 5th. He was admitted 7 am in the morning. During this stay, my father was administered morphine, which I am not sure why it was given as he was not in excruciating pain. It caused severe adverse reactions--dizziness, nausea, and restlessness--that were largely ignored by the staff. At night despite calling for assistance multiple times, it took eight requests before a nurse responded to clean his blood-soaked bed, and even then, he was left itchy and uncomfortable due to poor care. The senior nursing staff's indifferent attitudes and lack of empathy were shocking and unacceptable. As his condition deteriorated, his blood pressure became dangerously low, causing him to faint for more than 5/7 minutes. My mother, who had stayed by his side, called for help, but no nurse had followed up on his vitals. When he was finally rushed for a neurological evaluation, there was no record of his blood pressure, and the nurses misrepresented his condition, implying that his sluggishness was longstanding rather than a direct result of his weakened state. My father could not advocate for himself, which is why my mother stayed with him. Yet even this basic support was denied: PA Melissa initially allowed my mother to stay, but head nurse Gloria overruled it, calling security to escort her out before visiting hours had ended. This occurred two days in a row, and we were treated with hostility on both occasions. Head Staff Dr sue ( not sure of her full name) were also present and did not provide any help. If my mom was not present on my dad side at the time he fainted we might have lost him due to lack of care and attention. It is not necessary that patient is critical when he is in emergency or in ICU. Please that was the reasons they gave us and not allowing my mom to stay as my dad was not critical and was not shifted to ICU. To make matters worse, when my father saw a doctor after discharge, we discovered that a small fragment from the burst catheter balloon had remained in his bladder, potentially causing his infection and subsequent hospitalization. This oversight has forced him to go through the same trauma repeatedly, and we have lost all trust in the care provided at St. Joseph Hospital. read more

This review is based strictly on the warmth, understanding, compassion and support I received from the two awesome front desk personnel Tony and Pat in the main lobby. My aunt called me at 1:24 am this morning from this hospital lobby stating my Uncle had been admitted after being brought to the ER. I was in Washington DC and jumped in my car heading north back to NY. My aunt did not respond to my texts and calls on the drive up. I got to the lobby of this small hospital in Plainview, Long Island at 5:50 am and was greeted warmly by both. After a temperature check( love that), I inquired about my aunt. They called the desk at his floor and then Tony actually went up to see if she was there. I waited downstairs with Pat who was just so sweet and kind as she spoke with me about love and compassion in these crazy Covid times. Just a great human being who was saying X and doing X. I have never experienced care and kindness of this magnitude from hospital or medical staff- ever!!!! My Aunt actually went back home to rest around 4:00 am. This is a small hospital with easy access via ample parking right by the entrance. The type of care my fiancee received at St. Joseph Hospital was awful! My fiancee had major spine surgery ,the surgeon was excellent as far as surgery went , but he had assured her that the hospital is much better now after we heard so many negatives stories about this hospital, which are still true! The Hospital is filthy in the patient rooms. The nurses do not come to give my fiancee her medication on time ,so she lays there in bed in pain for hours . House keeping does not take dirty and soiled linens and gowns out of the room. Now the nurses are protesting to help my fiancee. They act like taken her to the bathroom is such a chore so they brought her a port a potty! and they have not bathed her for past 3 days. The room is falling apart the walls have not been painted in years and still have old spackle on them. This young woman is to be praised and recognized for her caring beyond words. I think so much of this that I have to write your Hospital about this outstanding young woman ! This review is for the hospital administration of this hospital. The employees/doctors in this hospital treated me kindly and provided an accurate diagnosis in a few hours. I was going to leave a very positive review until I started getting the bills. Here is my experience with this hospital. I had acute abdominal pain on multiple days until it became so much that I was lying on the floor in foetal position. I first decided to go to a local Urgent Care who told me that they do not have a CT machine and advised me to go to the Emergecy ( ER ) immediately. I got to the hospital around 10PM. I was admitted around 11:30PM. After a blood/urine test and a CT scan, I was diagnosed with two kidney stones. I stayed at the hospital a few more hours so that I could speak to a urologist in the morning. The alternative was to go home and make a separate appointment with the urologist which could take days/weeks. In total I spent about 12 hours in the hospital. A few days later I received the first bill. The total bill was north of $12000. I have an Aetna insurance plan for which I pay $20K every year. The aetna insurance covered some of this bill but not all. I compared the prices that this hospital charged with the prices mentioned on fairhealthconsumer.org. In general St. Joseph's is charging 2-3x of the prices mentioned on fairhealthconsumer.org. Unfortunately, this was not the end. I started receiving bills from third parties. The physician's assistent who diagnosed me sent a separate bill. The urologist who spent a few minutes with me in the morning sent another one. There is a bill for the 'emergency room visit'. And there is another one from someone who looked at my CT scan report. I do not know who else will send me a bill but the total billed amount is approaching $15k. Lets put this number in perspective. Assuming you are a typical long island household who is approaching retirement. You decide to cut down on your use of electricity in summer and gas in winter to save a few dollars towards your retirement. You trade long term discomfort for a hope of financial security in old age. What this hospital is charging is equivalent to 5-10 years of such discomfort. This is insane. Another mystery is that they took my blood twice. Once when I was admitted and once when I was released. The amount of blood that was taken just before my release was considerable. I have not seen a blood report for this. Now that I know what kind of people I am dealing with I am suspicious. Did they sell my blood to someone else for an additional few thousand dollars? The lesson I learned is that next time I feel pain my pain threshold needs to be significantly higher before I seek medical help. The alternatively is to just die at home with my $20K insurance card safely in my pocket. This is not a hospital. It is a tentacled monster which preys on people in pain and despair. read more

This hospital lied to us. My brother has cancer, they didn't tell him that he had the beginning of a mass more than 3 years ago. Now he's in fourth stage cancer and he keeps asking for treatment. Rather than give him treatment they lied to him and tried to send him to hospice telling him it was rehab. I've never trusted hospital less than I trust this one. not a good hospital. my mom had gallbladder surgery , thank God the surgery went fine but its what happened after that I did not like at all . after the surgery she went to recovery for only around 40 mins ! that is not right . the nurses kept telling her she is fine and ready to go home but the surgeon didn't even come see her after the surgery to tell her the details. they sent my mom home while she was still on the anesthesia and didn't even check if she can walk. eat something or how she would feel after the anesthesia wears off. those nurses just want to get rid of the people fast. not right at all. read more

A quick story that illustrates the stupidity of how this dump is run. Father has a swallow test. Results say he has to have thickened liquids. I ask for thickener to add to water. They don't have it. I ask why. Because it's after 6pm and the dietary department -- the food people -- is closed. Ya get that? No thickener after 6pm. So wtf are thirsty people supposed to do. I came in for one thing but they were thorough and found more. Basically they saved my life!. The Drs all communicated together and always communicated and explained everything to me. I was never rushed and always helped. The nurses were amazing. So much knowledge and they really cared. They paid attention and went above and beyond. There was a lot that went on and the Drs and nurses all worked together very well. I never felt alone or in need. My family was away so I was without visitors for a while but like I said never alone! My worries were all immediately addressed. It's the best hospital I've been too for myself. The food was great too!!!!! That's very important because you can be there for a while and need nutrition. To have a menu was great!!! It was also nice that there are showers once out of the ccu. Unfortunately, I have to go back in a few weeks but I'm glad it's there! read more

Overall, a smooth visit to the ER with 15 month old for lip laceration. I didn't realize I should have probably gone somewhere with a pediatric unit and went to the nearest hospital, but every single staff member treated us with the utmost care. Very small hospital, so really a one man show per job. A welcoming man got us checked in, followed by a compassionate triage nurse. She was even offering some of her own baby items from her car for us. We were seen fairly promptly by a doctor who explained that the plastic surgeon was already on his way for another patient. Staff was pretty communicative with his status, usually with me asking though. I asked for a snack for my son and a desk clerk was able to get me yogurt and apple sauce. The plastic surgeon was direct and knowledgeable. We were taken into a empty large room not in use (see below). A nurse made me (a very anxious first time mom) feel comfortable while the plastic surgeon did the stitches. My son even fell asleep for a minute and was smiling after. Discharge paperwork was extremely quick and we were on our away within about 4 hours total. One star was taken away for where they put us... there were no stalls and a whole section closed. As I was walking up and down trying to keep my son calm, I noticed our bed was placed right in front of the Covid isolation room (with about 7 people receiving IV treatments) and an X Ray room with a big sign about notifying staff if you're pregnant (I am visibly pregnant). As soon as I complained about them putting a pregnant woman and a toddler who can't wear a mask so close to Covid patients, we were moved with no issue. In summary, just never be afraid to speak up and ask for anything you need. I may have felt differently about certain things had I not. read more

I would avoid this hospital and jump onto the Seaford Oyster Bay Expwy and go to Plainview Hospital. I need to preface with the fact that I understand Covid has made most hospitals over crowded and understaffed. My husband had a raging headache that the Doc suggested he go to the ER for. We had a LOT of hesitation due to how prevalent Omicron had become (this was the week between Xmas and new years) Our Doc assured us they are good at keeping Covid patients separate from others. He could not have been more wrong! The way they work is they take you on for Triage right off of the waiting room. Take your vitals and send you back into the waiting room to wait for a bed to be seen. In the meantime there was a constant stream of people coming in for Covid tests. They would triage and then be sent back into the waiting room. So we are sitting in the waiting room with people hacking and sniffling, with some still not knowing how to wear a mask. (hint, it goes over both your nose and mouth) There were chairs blocked off to keep social distance, however when there was no place to sit people just stood where they could. My Doctors office has people wait in their cars until there is room for them, they should probably do the same here! In addition to this, the place is NOT CLEAN. The triage area looked like it hadnt been swept in a very long time. Literal dirt on the floor. The ladies room was a mess, things all over the floor. Even once we got a stretcher in the back, the floor was a mess back there too. We were there for 7 1/2 hours. read more
